For context - $116.5B surplus in June, thanks largely to repayments of taxpayer loans to Fannie/Freddie ($66B of that).

When the GOP says 'spending cuts', they mean 'cuts to everything except the bloated Defense budget.'

Later, we'll find you in a thread crying about "Obama's sequester", and how spending isn't bad when you say so.

If only he could reduce the national debt by negative 5 trillion like his predecessor.

2013-07-29 10:58:54 AM
This is a mistake - we spend tons of money on things that are unproductive.  Cut back on foreign aid and the military, for starters.  Cut back on corporate welfare.

Making the assumption that all spending is good is just as dumb as making the assumption all spending is bad.

That was different. Deficits didn't matter back then. Besides, starting a trillion dollar war to earn your daddy's love is always a wise investment.

The deficit is falling faster than it ever has before. Every other time it has fallen remotely as fast as it is today, the economy has fallen into a recession. Further, every other developed country that has tried gutting government programs to juice economic growth has fallen into a double-dip recession or never really left the Great Recession in the first place.

2013-07-29 11:01:15 AM
The country's infrastructure is already collapsing in on itself and the GOP would gladly continue that neglect in order to maintain defense contracts that even the Pentagon doesn't want anymore.

So, are we still in the "all spending is stimulus" mode, or are we on to "all spending that the government does is justifiable" talking point? Want to make sure I understand what the proper talking points are for this week to justify taking cuts off the table when the goal is deficit reduction.  If we've already raised taxes, are we essentially now saying that the deficit is no longer a concern? Or just that we're no longer going to do anything about it, at least as far as the president is concerned?

Just in case some of you whiny tards don't ever go to the article:

"He also said the president was not going to accept a budget in which domestic spending is further cut to soften the blow to Defense spending.

"That's unacceptable," Lew, who appeared on three Sunday shows to re-enforce the president's positions,  told  NBC's "Meet the Press." "He won't sign that."

So then yes, yes he is.

The solution to this has been obvious for a long time.

Barry just needs to call for drastic spending cuts to balance the budget, repeal of the Affordable Care Act, closing the EPA and DOE, and completely banning all abortions.

The Derpers will counter-propose big increases in spending on domestic infrastructure, increased funding for ACA, killing the Keystone Pipeline and No-Child-Left-Behind once and for all, and triple funding for Planned Parenthood and sex education.

If we were to completely end the sequester for FY2014 forward, all we would need is $900 billion in deficit reduction to stabilize the debt. Money shot:

Yup, just like he's threatening to shut down the government by not repealing the ACA.  This is what Republicans actually believe.

Are there really people out there that think this passes for an "argument" on what is really going on/these are the only options?

Serious question.

Add to that Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, SC, Wyoming, and any state that believes Federal Government is bad for them.

Then lemme see the libertarians/conservatives do a 180 so quick it'll make Usain Bolt look slow in comparison.
