Marketing video games is a revolution? I think even I want to live on Mars now.

Is this person not familiar with EA?

Indie doesn't mean anything.  Not being published by EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, or Activision, who all want to push terrible ideas directly on the consumer matters.  It's true, we don't "love indie games," but we hate the hell out of AAA publishers.

So this guy starts a publishing company that he insists isn't a publishing company and demonstrates his complete lack of knowledge in the field by not understanding how digital distribution works and by offering analytics that most developers build in themselves.  I'm sure he'll go far. *eyeroll*

So what does constitute an indie game these days? I would look at it as any studio that self-publishes, but wouldn't that include places like Nintendo?

All I see is a big cloud of verbal vapor. I don't see any actual, tangible product here.

I have a simple rule: if you've published more than 2 sequels(not necessarily to games you made yourself), you're not really indie.

Wow.  That article used every marketing buzzword in existence.  Wait, I didn't see "paradigm shift".  Did I miss it or did they just forget that one?

Sums up my take away of the article too; I see a lot of excitement over finding a target market for a product based on how that product is being used, but then a mist of confusion as to how that is actually executed and what that will really do for a dev.

That whole thing read like a press release written by a recent remedial marketing school graduate.

Yeah, I'm going to just agree and say Steam, Xbox Live and PSN already have this covered.  Though the one thing he has is the cloud gaming thing so you don't have to download demos, you can just stream play them, but of course that is only viable to people with decent broadband speed.

Steam, Gamersgate, GoG... There's a list of companies that will 'publish' a game for developers for a relatively modest fee, for the PC. XBLA does it as well.

The only thing I don't like about that game is how the tier 3 monsters make the game a bullet hell shooter instead of a nifty platformer dungeon crawl.

Tiers 1 and 2 make you plan accordingly for each set of creatures and you could reliably dodge all the incoming fire.

Tier 3: Lich + crows, overlevel, or die.
