chiett: What a vile piece of shiat this article (and blog) is!

FTA:  What the Foxies are alleging is that, in the words of Steve Doocy, "there's a provision in the Immigration bill that could be used to give free cars, motorcycles, scooters, and other vehicles, to young people."

From Politicact:
Rubio spokesman Alex Conant told PolitiFact in an email that "...the key word in the legislation is 'service.' That qualifier means that they will be provided 'services' and not 'goods' as in 'goods and services' (a common term when referring to tangibles and intangibles). In practice, it means the program can gives kids a bus pass - but it's not giving them a car."

/Maybe Rubio has joined the vast, left-wing conspiracy to protect Obama. . .

Seriously. If the only thing you can complain about is that this makes conservatives look bad for making shiat up you need to reevaluate your position. There are many more obvious things that conservatives make up that make them look so much worse.

And they only got charged with fraud because they didn't make the recipient pay the required 20% co-pay. Its illegal for medical device makers to offer any discount program that stops the recipient from paying 20% co-pay.

Maybe the medical device people jacked up the retail price of the device to offset the 20% co-pay for the item, then passed the savings on to the consumer.

But that's the idea, you can't offer a 20% discount on medical devices. If you do, it would have to be 20% BEFORE medicare/copays are calculated. The copay is a requirement to discourage people buying things they don't need. Simply put, the end user has to pay out of pocket (or a health savings plan) 1/4th of what the federal government pays.

Someday, when automation and productivity increases mean about 80% of us won't be necessary for anything, we are either going to pass a one child policy or else have no choice but to have Obamacars, and Obamahouses, and Obamavacations. There will be a tax on production of goods that will hit the handful of people who still work. They will still enjoy a higher lifestyle than those who don't work, but there will be a massive underclass who simply collects a national dividend. It won't be called "welfare," and there will be no stigma attached to it. Retirement age will be something like 40 in order to cycle as many people through the 20% as possible.

Meh, I think a lot of people don't hit their stride until close to 40. I'd instead encourage people to have fun and get educated until they are 30 or 35. Then work till your 45 or 50.

I was going to post something along the lines of "walking 2 miles burns the same amount of calories as running", but some naggling little voice in my head said "Hey,  you better look that up, just to be sure".

Sure enough, it was one of those "facts" you hear all the time that's 180 degrees wrong.

I just took my dog to the grocery store on foot. Difficulty: my dog is retarded. Tried to pull me in front of a bus because there was a lady dog across the street. He's small but deceptively strong if you're not paying attention. I used to think it would be a motorcycle accident or lung cancer that would finally get me. Now I believe it's the dog.

Walking back fully laden with groceries and a dumbass (but sweet and loyal) pooch is a better workout than running. My clothes were so soaked in sweat that I had to peel them off. Granted, I live in the Gulf South and drink too much, so sweating is to be expected.

Why did I make this irrelevant post? I dunno, but here we are.

HAHAHA ... you're an Idiot.

This is what writers in the nineteenth century predicted (well, all except for Jules Verne) for us. Didn't happen. What happens instead is that employers (the investor class and the connector/political class) Shrink the pool of labor they hire, allowing the massive economic unemployment to drive DOWN wages.

Additionally, as automation and symbolic analysis grew in importance, fewer local workers were required, and job portability meant that large amounts of work could be transferred from 'critical link' expensive artisan workers in high-cost, high-culture areas to large-scale redundant laborers in remote locations with low standards of living.

The fact that we can feed the (much larger) world with 1/5th the labor as required in 1800 doesn't mean that we're all sharing the work evenly. The "best" and the "cheapest" are employed, while most of us wind up screaming, crawling over each other as old paradigms of class mobility are cut like so many silken threads, and demand for entertainment and medicine skyrocket - both fields with tiny, restricted producer classes and giant demand.

So, yeah, Mechanization is a nightmare in the face of materialism.

After a few weeks, pick a flat loop, easy jog 100 paces, walk 150 paces (whatever).  Repeat until the loop is finished.  Over time, you'll see the gap start to close, soon it will be even, and before you know it, you'll be able to go for an actual run.  Bootstraps, they work for this shiat too.

That would also be a good way of doing it. But it won't happen until the government puts huge incentives into the system to encourage not working beyond a certain point. They should come up with a formula that says anyone up to age 30 receives $X per year, with X being a certain percentage of the gross domestic product of the US (it would probably be something like $20k for an average person). At 30, the amount declines each year until it hits $0 at age 40. Then at age 50 you can either retire and get 100% of your income in social security or else continue to work, but unless you are anticipating an enormous raise in the next couple of years, you are very likely to take retirement. Income and corporate taxes would have to be staggering to sustain this model, something like 75%, but because labor will be scarce and productivity will be high, both personal income and corporate profits will be astronomical to balance this out. I wouldn't mind paying 75% income tax on a $180,000 salary.

Things either go in this direction, or they go in the direction of massive poverty, unemployment, and unrest.
