It's not like McNabb completely understands how to end things properly.

It isn't unusual for someone near the end of their career to retire with the organization where they had their greatest success. I believe it's just a formality, sorry to see him go, it had a good run.

You don't have to be signed to a team to NOT be retired. Notice TO isn't retired? Retiring brings certain perks and requires submitting paperwork to the league.

Basically this is McNabb realizing that he will never play again (despite efforts last year) and is going out with his team. Wish I could be at the game.

It's good to hear some Eagles fans can recognize how great McNabb's time with the team was.  11 seasons and no Super Bowl win, sure, but there are other teams that have gone 11 seasons without even a playoff win.  I never understood the McNabb hate.

I never wanted him to go in the first place but realized I was in the minority.

But I'll take 5 NFC championship game appearances, 1 Super Bowl appearance and a great 11 years then the shiat show that was Buddy Ryan, Rich Kotite, and Ray Rhodes

Yep and that was with pretty much no one at WR. He had one year with TO, but that playoffs was TO-less til the Superbowl. He once carried a WR core to the NFC championship game that consisted of a guy nicknamed Trash and Pinkston (Who famously "lost the ball in the lights" when he ducked to avoid getting hit). He had the bad luck of running into the roided up Panthers before they got suspended AND the spygate Patriots. He almost carried them back against the Cards in the second half til the defense blew it. I do wonder what will happen at the Chiefs game. After terrible years since he left, he might get cheers; heck knowing Philly, if they are crap that game the crowd might be chanting "WE WANT ANDY" and "WE WANT 5" by the 2nd half.

Hey guys. I'm Donovan McNabb. Whoo. I play quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. And I'm here to tell you can, too if you start everyday with a hearty breakfast from McDonald's. Uh, like the new Sausage Egg McGriddle Value Meal. Available now for a limited time for under five dollars. Remember, guys real champs eat at McDonald's. I'm lovin' it.

Because we somehow entered a universe where everyone who doesn't win the Super Bowl sucks.  Counting championships is the world's laziest argument, so we do it all the time.

I was pumped when the Eagles fired Andy Reid.  It's going to make it that much easier to win in that division this year.

Like McNabb, Reid was a fine choice for his time. Yeah he had his warts and issues but he did a good job. The difference between McNabb and Reid is that McNabb left right when he should have (not his choice but it doesnt matter) and Reid was around 3 years too long. Maybe less than 3 years but still too long.

Hey man, I'm with you on this one.

I argued that same exact point ad nauseum to my fellow birds fans and it would have been easier to talk to a wall.

I will always love the run that McNabb and Reid gave us, despite the sometimes frustrating decisions on play calling, I will forever miss Jim Johnson and that scary ass defense.

I've tried to talk my fellow fans into being realistic about Chip's chances. The history of college coaches finding success in the NFL isn't very good. And Nick Foles showed some promise last year. I mean hell I was AT the game he played with a broken throwing hand and he did a damn good job.

Either way, I just want this season to come around already.

Kelly is gonna do better than those before him, but it is gonna take some adjustment. Foles is not the answer. Better than Kolb maybe but not all that. I would start Barkley until he shows he can't do it or gets hurt.

Still taking the Eagles to finish second.

I would say his 1-5 record in championship games, no playoff wins over the past 4 seasons, and a steady downward trend over that time means more. Reid's time in Philly was up. Both him and the Eagles will ultimately be better off.

Yeah, I agree. Reid had to go, no doubt about it. Sometimes you just stay in a place too long, maybe it was fatigue or his son's death, but things were trending downward.

None of that diminishes his earlier work. Him and McNabb had a hell of a run. They were better than those that came before them.

McNabb was a very good, not great QB who often played poorly in big games.

He is also obsessed with the fact he's black and enjoys playing the victim.  Being boo'd at the draft was the best thing that happened to his career.

Donovan was good when he played and kept his mouth shut... but over the past few years he seems to lose control of his jaw and tongue and keep saying the stupidest things.

At this point I wish he would just go away... and SHUT THE FARK UP.

Because a poor record in six games should mean much much more than being 130-93 in over 200 NFL games?

The Eagles have been mediocre the last 3 years because their offense is built around an aging quarterback who gets hurt a lot.  And his option B is Nick Foles.

Yeah, because what's the point in amassing all of those wins if you can't win the biggest ones in the playoffs?  The goal is winning the Superbowl.  Good regular season records only gets you into the playoffs.

And who built the offense around that aging quarterback?  Reid the GM was worse than Reid the head coach.

Also saying McNabb is better than Vick and Foles does not make McNabb great, it just means Vick and Foles aren't good.
