I've heard of Kethane.  Frankly, I've avoided it, but I could definitely use a new challenge.

And I'm a sucker for fuel depots.

There are also mods that require the Kethane mod, like one that adds some metal ore in the same sort of way kethane is and lets you set up your own launch platforms on other planets (or just in another location on Kerbin) and such that you can load ships from (by clicking on it of course) that require a certain amount of materials and such to build them (or not, I think it defaults to off on requiring electricity, fuel, and metal to build a ship).  So your Minmus base could have a launch platform that you could load one of those huge ships on and take off from there for a fraction of the fuel cost.

Eh...thanks.  Pressing space does indeed cause a sound.  So...how do I get the engines to ignite?

Spacebar advances from one stage to the next.

LeftShift to throttle up.
LeftCtrl to throttle down.
X to turn engines off ASAP.

Arrows to steer.

2013-07-28 08:52:04 PM
Also, watch THIS to get you up and running.  Don't be that guy that's too proud to look at a tutorial.  This will absolutely save you days.

Especially when you get to the point where you start to want to plot orbit trajectories.

The guy has FREAKING ANDY KAUFFMAN as his profile pic, are journalists/public really this stupid?

[i.imgur.com image 523x337]

He is nothing like Andy Kaufman. Kaufman was subtle with his trolling. He never let himself become bigger than the joke, even when he stayed in kfab through his brief WWF career.

Phil Fish, the man who was suicidal because designing his claim to fame (Yes, designing, because he can't program and there were 3 or 4 other people who developed the game and did all of the hard work that he took all of the credit for) was too hard for him, is no Andy Kaufman

2013-07-28 08:56:35 PM
To summarize:  Left shift to throttle up, then hit space to ignite the first stage of engines.  Further space pressing will go through the stages.

Watch the tutorial I liked to above to figure out stage designing.

In the spacecraft building, you can adjust your staging on the right, the numbered list with all the icons in it, by dragging icons around between them or clicking + on a stage (when hovering over it) to add a stage below it.  The lower the number, the later the stage, so if you have 4 stages, 0-3, then stage 3 comes first, then 2, and so on.  At the bottom, you want to put your main engines and other things like SRBs that you want to fire right away, including any gantries (which will disconnect from the ship when the stage is activated) that you have put on for stabilization.  In the later stages you have things like separators and later stage engines and stuff.

Then, when you get it on the launch pad, press Shift to up your throttle to whatever you want (big spacecraft may want to start out a little low due to keep from falling apart due to G forces), and then Space to initiate the first stage, which if your main engines are in that stage, they should then fire up.

Might want to check out the Tutorial missions under the Start Game menu as well.

A) Fez is a tremendous game.  Apparently people above think it's all wireframes?  What?  That's entirely not correct.

B) Obviously, Phil Fish has a few issues.  Or more than few.  But "dude clearly has some emotional issues.  So, fark him!" is kind of a dick attitude.

C) Jon Blow's every bit as bad/sensitive.  He's just better at putting on a good public image face.  The fact that I'm concerned he'll show up here to correct me is pretty telling.

D) Watch Indie Game.  Mostly because Super Meat Boy needs even more attention.

E) Did someone in this thread really say Fez's puzzles are simple?  Because they aren't.  At least, not all of them.

None of these nullify the negative karma he gets from acting like an entitled asshole.  The heat he's getting is a direct result from acting like an entitled asshole.   For him to not catch heat, the first and most obvious step would be not acting like an entitled asshole.

There is no other first step.  Where this goes rests entirely on him.

"Phil Fish is an asshole" is a totally reasonable statement.

"I get that Phil Fish has some issues that cause him to be an asshole, and I'm going to claim to understand things from his point of view, but he's an asshole, so fark him" is not a reasonable statement.

2013-07-28 10:30:07 PM
Since when do I have to understand someone that completely to judge someone is an asshole?  Example: If I see someone kicking babies down the street, I call him an asshole.  I don't need to punt four or five toddlers across the street first to try to understand him before I do it.

Sometimes an asshole is just an asshole.  It doesn't go any deeper than that.

I know I'm about a hundred posts shy of current, but I want to say: screw that game. I bought it after so many people violently shiat themselves about it being the second coming of Video-game-Jesus.

It's a lackluster game with 'old school' graphics. The story was embarassingly, cringingly, bad, and would have been rejected from a childrens 80's novel. The mechanics are 'we like Pokemon but can't come up with a decent battle system'. I loathed that 20+ hours in the game was still taking control away from me for 15-20 minutes at a time, and was STILL hand holding me so much it made me want to stab someone to death, AND it was still grudgingly doling out 'new abilities' core to the game.

Then I got a 'go capture some mobs' quest and it took me hours to finally say 'screw you'.

I can see how some people would really like it, and I think if it had not been so violently intent on hand holding me, or I hadn't spent 90% of the time I played it going 'well he's just having a dream or a psychotic break', it would have been ok.  I certainly don't get the hype.  I never got more than 20-25 hours in. Just bored the shiat out of me.  And RPGs are my favorite game, and I enjoy trash fiction novels, so I don't have high standards.

That said, aside from some huge AAA titles like Dragon's Dogma, or RPGs, what do you expect from Japan? Racing sims? That's America/Euro. Action? American. Fighting games? Japanese. Puzzles? Japanese again. RPGs? Split American/Japanese probably, with both being very different.

Bear in mind there's a decent pool of Japanese stuff that simply doesn't get translated into English because of the cost, and little to no American interest. Agarest war, Hyperdimension Neptunia, the 'Alchemist' games, wierd crossover titles using those two engines, where they made about 400 games with them.

Dude creates one game, and he suddenly thinks he's f*cking Sid Meier or Shigeru Miyamoto.

Just wait a bit, and that asshole will come crawling back. Based on his statements in the past year, Fish sounds like one of those guys who need attention like oxygen. Once he realizes that he's a nobody outside the gaming industry and is screwing himself out of the profits from Fez's sequel, Fish will delete his FB and Twitter posts, then act like he never threw a hissy fit and quit.

2013-07-29 12:25:41 AM

peteloaf: Dude made a broken product (Fez), releases a broken patch, and refuses to cover the cost of fixing the broken product he is selling. The industry is much better off without a developer like that. In any other industry selling a product you know is broken and refusing to fix it is pretty much unacceptable, I don't know why he thinks it's ok for him (and I don't know why the industry never really took him to task for it). He may have a very corrosive and awful public personality, but it's his blatant abuse of the consumer that makes me say "Good Riddance."

The worst part is that the whiny douchebag tried to foist all the blame on Microsoft. The first patch he released actually made things worse enough to require a new patch, but MS charges developers a fee to release more than one patch. Of course, despite knowing this was in his exclusive contract with XBL, Fish b*tched about it anyway, saying it would cost him too much even though he made over a million dollars from the game. What a dick.

The best ragequits in a game is when someone can dominate a top player so badly that he just leaves. I can't understand it, I see a great player for a short time getting owned by another, and they can't take it.

I like the cut of your jib.

On another note, the guy said he was signing off because the gamer community is crammed full of belligerent little assclowns who slam everything that doesn't measure up to the lofty standards established by their favorite games ever, whatever the hell they are.  He also said they spew a constant stream of negativity into forums, Twitter, Youtube and any of those other services that I never use.  The fact that he comes across as a hipster douche on most subjects doesn't mean he's wrong on this one.  The average forum thread in a place like Blue's News is a festering boil of crap-talking that makes me be ashamed to associated with the community in general, and the "hardcore gamers" in particular.  The truth is they're sad, pathetic little bastards who can't create anything of value themselves, so they dump all over everything they don't like.

So I guess it was some other Fez that Steam had on sale a few weeks ago?  Didn't look that interesting anyway.
