I don't want him to stop acting. I just want him to stop acting in anything produced by Disney or Tim Burton. Come on, Johnny..... make some movies like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Ninth Gate, Blow or Secret Window again. I know you can do it!

I'm not surprised he's giving up acting. In a few more years people will start to become very suspicious about the fact that he doesn't seem to age. At all.

I do enjoy the Pirate movies, and thought they brought the fun back to the series with #4. I do have concerns about how long they could actually drag that out, but at the same time I could see it being like the old Bob Hope/Bing Crosby "Road to..." series of movies. Take the character, slap him into tracking down some mythical McGuffin, and make it funny.

That said, I agree with you. He can't JUST make the same movies. Lone Ranger, from what I saw, was him basically trying to recapture the Pirates lightning, but it just wasn't written as well. And I feel like every Burton movie I see is basically the same thing at this point, and I've never been the biggest fan of him in the first place. So it just feels like he needs to spread his wings a bit. Get off the rut he seems to have gotten himself into.

Oh why, why, why, why, why subby? Are you dome master thespian who has lost roles to him, or do you think Johnny Depp is the new Pauly Shore?

Really, besides the last 2 Pirates movies and Lone Ranger, most of his shiat has been tight, and his characters unique and fresh.

Elaborate setup for a big "comeback movie".

2013-07-28 09:12:12 AM
Let me guess subby, you're wife has a giant crush on him?

2013-07-28 09:14:17 AM
Subby is obviously in love with Mr. Depp. That supposed bisexual she-beast Amber Heard stole him!

It is true. He sold his soul to the devil for eternal life. However the devil fell on hard times during the real estate crash in Florida where he was building McMansions, and he had no choice but to sell Depp's soul to Disney.

It was a six sentence article, the Sun. Congratulations on your silly headline based on small-talk platitude.

"Are there quieter things I wouldn't mind doing?
"Yes, I wouldn't mind that. I wouldn't say I am dropping out any second but I would say it's not too far away."

2013-07-28 09:30:34 AM
Why the hate?
It's just a human doing things, you don't have to care or be upset, just ignore it if you're not into it.

2013-07-28 09:35:21 AM
I was dragged to "The Lone Ranger" and didn't hate it. It was a tad long, and needed the "William Tell Overture" a little earlier, but I enjoyed the storytelling. As for Depp, yes he should focus on things non-Disney/Burton, and I say that as a Disney fan.

2013-07-28 09:43:08 AM
Johnny Depp is now dating Amber Heard. She seems like a nice woman and if I had Johnny's money and Amber, I'd retire from acting and propose to her in a heartbeat. Though I'm still surprised at his age he hasn't done a lot of directing. Sarah Polley seems to be mostly directing now, and she's pretty good.

2013-07-28 09:43:29 AM
So I guess this means Tim Burton is going to quit being a director soon.

"Article": (not an exact quote) "Sometime in the future"

I don't get the hate. He's having a good time and does good things with his time and money. I haven't seen any pirates movies past the first, or The Lone Ranger. The Tourist was pretty good, and his cameo in 21 Jump Street made the movie worthwhile.

Why, subby? He's one of the most interesting actors of his generation.

Well, it *is* the Sun that published that article. They're not exactly known for their journalistic integrity and honesty.

The Rum Diary? Dr Parnassus? Public Enemies? Transcendence has a chance to not suck.

(Nice cameo in 21 Jump St too)

Catch "The Libertine".

My take on the lone ranger was with a reedit getting rid of the stupid shiat such as the rabbits, it could be a decent movie.

I'd be fine if he never starred in another Burton movie ever again. Also is The Rum Diary any good? I've read the book but heard the movie sucked.

2013-07-28 03:45:47 PM
Anybody in a position to retire on a pile of cash to free up extra time to faek Amber Heard should probably do that thing. Alternatively, he could make some better choices in his roles.

A Terrible Human: I'd be fine if he never starred in another Burton movie ever again. Also is The Rum Diary any good? I've read the book but heard the movie sucked.

The book is quite good, though it's not of the drug-fueled craziness variety or venomous political savagery that a lot of people expect of HST (it was one of his earliest non-journalism pieces, though it wasn't published until decades after it was written). The movie is garbage. They combined wildly divergent characters into one (a posh businessman and a violent alcoholic jagoff) while keeping their respective scenes intact, making for schizophrenic characters, they shoehorned in a drug trip scene that had nothing to do with anything, just because they assumed that's what people expected from an HST-penned property, and they completely missed the point of the book. If you can't adapt the plot, characters, or spirit of a story, why bother making a film out of it?

Oh I know the book is great but that's a shame about the movie. I guess it's where Hunter S. Thompson isn't around to give input isn't it? :(

Well she did claim to be a lesbian for awhile. Maybe people would see her name and figure it would someone else? I imagine saying "former lesbian Amber Heard" would bug some people.

She never claimed to be a lesbian. Back in 2010, when she came out, she said she doesn't want to be labeled one way or another. Other people decided to say she was a lesbian, but she herself never did.

So media reports like this were wrong? I never cared enough to look into it because I don't really care who is gay. Hopefully you can see why it would be confusing with headlines like that.

dkny: So I guess this means Tim Burton is going to quit being a director soon.

Nope. He's in the middle of directing this movie (note that the cast includes neither Depp or Helena Bonham Carter).

As for Depp, since the story came from the Sun I take it with the proverbial grain of salt. However, if there is any truth to it, I hope he collaborates with Terry Gilliam at least one more time.

That media report doesn't quote her as saying she's a lesbian, the headline of it does. Whereas in this interview she explicitly addresses the subject:

I'm not one to talk about my personal life as I prefer to keep that as private as possible. Since that event, there has been a lot of media attention surrounding my relationship. It's been frustrating as I don't label myself one way or another - I have had successful relationships with men and now a woman. I love who I love, it's the person that matters.

And the same page has a link that says they'll be filming Pirates 5 later this year. Maybe later?
