Stop with your crazy factual backing statements!! How are we supposed to be outraged when people like you roam the internet?

This is as moranic as the iHaters ripping Apple when AT&T dropped unlimited data for the iPad after offering it for a few months.

Does not describe the story at all.
Misuse of several terms.
Weak attempt at generating false outrage.

Eh, as long as Google honors the promotion for those who bought it while it was in effect.. what's the big deal?

Sounds like Subbie has "I'm a special snowflake and I wants what I wants" outrage.  Next time, buy faster.

That was still an awesome movie with plenty of reasons to blast society.

It's a hassle to drag your computer out to the living room every time you want to watch netflix when any number of cheap devices can do this and be far less unsightly.

One of the benefits of the bachelor life then, I guess.  I don't have to worry about sharing the tv with anybody.  Unsightly is a matter of taste though, I happen to think my desktop looks just fine sitting next to my tv stand.  Since the tv, stand, and tower are all black it actually looks more like it belongs there than the Wii, Dreamcast, and speakers.

Not to mention that PCs look like garbage on a TV until you're actually watching the movie or playing a game.

No it wouldn't. We'd be bashing Apple because they'd charge twice as much, offer less functionality, and successfully sell it to people who won't shut up about how great it is.

What cord are you using. My PC looks better on my TV because my TV is higher resolution and supports even more colors. If I didn't have to share the TV, I'd probably use my PC on it all the time.

I have all of this and my PC looks awful on a 50-inch 1080p 120hz TV. That is, for regular destop use. To be able to read anything effectively the DPI needs to be bumped up which, with Windows, breaks the look of a lot of applications.

As an HTPC, however, it's great.

I thought it was more common practice that your tv could do this shiat without needing a penis, I mean dongle.

My lg couple year old tv has Netflix, Internet, and a bunch of other apps.

Does anyone have a Chromecast yet? What are your experiences with it?

Setup is relatively easy if you have the setup apps (Win7, OSX, ICS). Streaming works fairly well (dependent on network quality) with noticeable lag between input and effect on the screen. The Netflix app has been flawless (outside of lag).

The YouTube app has been a bit buggy. When I try to cast a video while another video is being cast, the second video jumps to the end and will stop casting. The only way I've been able to fix it is by shutting the app down and recasting.

Tab casting from a PC w/ Chrome has been decent. It's noticeably laggier than the other forms of chromecasting. It works decently. I've been able to stream local media by dragging the file or directly inputting the filepath into a tab on Chrome.

Overall, I think the system is a great buy at $35 dollars. It definitely has a lot of potential. It does lack a bit of polish and isn't as seamless Airplay but that might be an Apple (ha!) and orange comparison.

I have one.  It's ok.  Make sure to set it up from a Windows machine in Chrome.  Mine didn't work right, when set up from OSX.  Once Amazon Instant supports it, the device will be a no-brainer.

"Bait-and-switch" is creating a promotion to bring you into the door and never intending to honor it. Discontinuing a promotion is just discontinuing a promotion. Man a lot of farkers are self-entitled little biatches. Google does some incredibly annoying things from time to time, but this doesn't qualify.

Chomecast doesn't use your device as a relay. Your phone tells CCast what to do and CCast streams the content down on its own.

Mine's got a DVI port, and everything looks pretty good to me.  I could use a stereo cable to use the tv's speakers too, but I just use the 5.1 system I already had for the computer instead.

/although I'm considering plugging the tv into the front speaker port on the 5.1 system so I can remove 2 speakers from the setup and make it look slightly less cluttered

Using HDMI. However, my TV has a lower resolution than my monitor. Also, maybe it's the DPI as was suggested. I'm not sure, I just know that reading normal text is a strain, and many websites don't quite fit right.

2013-07-29 10:57:15 AM
Ah - that might explain why Verizon FiOS seems to be throttling Netflix streaming like a sonofabiatch.

Also, Google wouldn't be a dick if they just said "limited availability" since they only did purchase a limited number of 3-month memberships to give away.
