Well, that and money for the stage collapse.  I wonder which is more.

Saw the band on their last tour, at the state fair; got the impression I had waited about eight to ten years too long to see them live. Zander can still sing those notes, though it's ridiculous how he dresses up to hide how fat he is. Rick just wandered the stage like a zombie, no fire.  They played more back-catalog stuff and fewer hits, and the crowd would get restless. I saw Night Ranger the same week, and They. Still. Kick . Ass. Even on their covers of other bands.

So I guess Carlos got out at about the right time.

Bout time Bun E sued their asses. He didn't choose to stop touring, they just stopped communicating with him and put Dax, Rick's son, in his place. Used to be awesome seeing them in the 80's. I have probably seen them 20+ times live. Would not see them now if they were playing down the street for free. Robin needs to lay off the cheeseburgers and come to grips with his male pattern baldness. The hats are fooling nobody.

You didn't know what you were looking for, until the lawyers sued the band

Seen Cheap Trick a few times yrs ago.  Always a good show.  You just cant do that stuff at 60 yrs and over

????????

Wondering if some of you have seen some Cheap Trick cover band- I've seen them about 8 times in recent years, 3 with Bun E and 5 with Daxx..... and Despite their ages, they are playing with a fire and enthusiasm lately that I've not seen as much of, in the past.  They defy time.   As for the cheap shots at Robin, yeah, the police outfits are a little goofy, but hey, they are entertainers and showmen- that's what they do.  He by no means looks 'fat' or out of shape- can't think of many men even near his age who stays as fit.  As much as I love Bun E and want to see the original band intact, the fact is, CT has vastly turned up the intensity since Daxx sits in.

CT is a notoriously tight-lipped bunch about their 'inside business', and I respect that.  So none of us knows truly what went on between Bun E and the others.  I really hate hearing all of this, and I hope they get it all sorted out quietly and quickly to everyone's satisfaction.

That's what I thought.  Of course, if they have a legal agreement to pay him some proceeds then they should.  It just doesn't seem like Cheap Trick without Bun E Carlos drumming for them.  Wiki says that Carlos had back problems which prevented him drumming during some of their tours...and that Nielsen's son is drumming for them.  Bun says he's healthy....who knows.

I'm still pissed off about Slayer replacing Dave Lombardo so I don't want to get on a full rant about how bands treat drummers (or how drummers spontaneously combust)

I saw them in '03 at a small venue (Jannus Landing, St. Petersburg Fl). They smoked it. Rick didn't jump around like he did back in the day, but they were certainly on their game. Rick played the six neck Hamer and his "Rick" guitar. Bun chain smoked the whole show. Other than Rick not bouncing around like a marionette controlled by a crack head, it was like seeing them in the eighties. They were tight and really seemed to be having a good time.

My thirteenth birthday was awesome. I got Live at Budokan record, and a new Schwinn Sportabout ten speed as presents. Good times.

One of the top 5 American rock bands.

Although without Bun E. it isn't Cheap Trick.

Not that unusual; he likely owns part of the name/band and has a residual / profit sharing agreement in place.

Shame, though.  Always loved them.

I saw them way back when they were at their peak of popularity.  Great show.

I saw Cheap Trick on the Paladia channel a couple weeks ago.Rick Nielson was so drunk he couldn't play lead well or in time with the band. Sad.Dancer sang well and was dressed like he was in a high school band. He was about as life-like as a Country Joubalee Bear.He had this look like he wishes he was anywhere else...

It's amusing how much it's mentioned that they are from Rockford in that article.  Not surprising since Rockford is a shiat hole known only for crack and Cheap Trick.  I guess you gotta play to your strengths.

Bun had become a real ass, though. Wouldn't let them make any changes to set lists, wouldn't allow himself to be lit by stage lighting at all, lots of other bullshiat. I saw them a few weeks ago that they kicked ass. Rick's son is a hell of a drummer and showman, and he fit right in with the group.

Cheap Trick is AMAZING live.

I saw them with my 19 year old a few weeks ago.  They still rock!  Nielsen's son, Zak, was playing drums.  Good show.  I've seen seen them over 10 times, in big arenas and small clubs.

And everybody steals it

I think he's up the creek. The other members aren't going to surrender, and the only court that's going to rule in his favor is staffed by the dream police. He might think he's gonna raise hell, but he's a whore who needs to put out the flame and tell his bandmates what this really about: "Hello there, I want you to want me."

Kinda not surprised to see this.  Bun's been off the road for a few years and nobody would comment on it.  Not even him.  Lotsa great pics on his website that include early shows that show Rick without the cap and in civilian clothes on stage.  Seems like bad business to not reimburse the manager over the credit card bill after the stage collapse as well.

I hate this kind of shiat.  Been a fan forever, seen them at least two dozen times.  I've met the band several times, ironically never Bun.

My Cheap Trick CSB's:

- Rick was my first rock guy interview.  He's one of the two easiest guys in the biz to interview.  The other is Alice Cooper.
- In my dealings with them, Robin Zander is one of the nicest, most unassuming guys and most accommodating that I've ever dealt with.  At a radio station I worked at, we had a contest where the winner would get an autographed guitar supplied from a music store.  Must've been late 90's, early 2000's.  Watched the show from the side of the stage, teased the girl I went to the show with to shove another local musician down the stairs.  Got to go backstage after the show and then I remembered I had to deal with the contest and Robin.  Chased him down with the guitar.  He looked at it and got really apologetic.  He was under contract with another guitar company and couldn't sign it.  Before anyone could say anything he offered to rape the merch table.  The listener was happy with that, Robin signed everything but the guitar, which the listener still got.  Total class, total pro.

Last time I saw them live was a few years ago when they did Dream Police with a 13 piece orchestra at the local Native American casino.  Daxx was on drums, Rick's other son was on guitar.  Daxx is an awesome drummer.  Not taking anything away from Bun.  Robin sounds as good, if not better, than he did 30 years ago.

I saw Cheap Trick in 2003, I was given free tickets.

It was horrible. As shiatty as Cheap Trick is on the radio, they are even worse live. I can't imagine how much so a decade after I saw their broke down over weight no talented asses.

I want my damn money back.

you didn't like a band live that you already hated on record? wow, say it ain't so!

i've seen them several times, the last being in 2003 or so, and they killed it every damn time. and their first four records are brilliant.

i'm guessing the conversation went something like this:

bun e. - "i'm sick of touring. we're old. i think we should hang it up."

band - "we still make good money touring; we don't want to quit."

bun e. - "well, you can do it without me. and since i'm a founding member and you'll be making money on a brand for which i'm ¼ responsible, i want a percentage of the profits."

band - "sure, whatever. sign here."

You find it amusing that the Rockford newspaper website does a story about a Rockford band and mentions Rockford a few times? Guess you're easily amused?

As for the rest of your comment, sorry but I'm going to have to throw down a [citation needed] here.

Does Rockford have crack? Yep, but show me any city that doesn't. We have a world class Park District with over 180 excellent public facilities. Several established microbreweries putting out some fine examples of the brewers art. And we're about 90 miles from both Chicago and Milwaukee so practically any band on tour, large or small, is less than a couple hours away.

Call it what you will but I call it home. And I love it.

And back on topic, I've heard a lot of rumors from both sides of the CT / Bun E. breakup. Not going to spread any but I'm sad to see them split. Been one of my favorite bands since they started.
