Okay, as a New Mexico semi-native, someone needs to explain something to me: exactly when the hell did Albuquerque start having "weather"?

You've never been here during monsoon season? Or during a good winter? Albuquerque was the first city in the country to develop a method of rescuing people from the arroyos during flash floods. They shut down I-40 & I-25 sometimes in the winter.

Methinks you're more "semi" than actual native.

I swear my mom must have planned her best slapstick comedy moments for the days I was off sick from school.

One day I was home from school after a big ice storm, and the wind was gusting probably around 60, 70 MPH. A piece of corrugated fiberglass had come off of the chicken coop. Mom wanted to go out after it. Even in my fevered state I thought that was a mad idea. She went out anyway as I watched.

She picked up the panel in just the wrong way, caught the wind, went down on the ice, and then I'm pretty sure she managed to break the land-speed-sliding-on-ice-backwards-on-your-butt-on-a-gravel-driveway record. Was I a bad son for just standing there losing it laughing?

Putting up a tarp is very much like making love to a beautiful woman: you unzip the door, put up your pole, and slip into the old bag.

Lived in Albuquerque for close to 30 years. Storms that actually fill up the arroyos along the interstates are pretty damn rare.

By all accounts, last night's storm was crazy, even for monsoon season. There were recorded wind gusts of up to 89mph, power lines down everywhere, flash flooding...I was expecting to see Jim Cantore in some of the videos I saw from the storm.
I kind of wish I could have seen it live, but I moved south to Cruces just over a year ago. We just got normal rain overnight.

Sounds good. I'll hit up your eip after my summer class is over and I get done moving across town. I'll need some beers after that.
Any other southern NM Farkers here? Let's make it a Fark party!

Not many.  A TFer resides in Alamogordo...  that's all I know.

Hey why not. I just moved back here after being gone for ten years so I could use a get together with strangers.

Came to say that the highest wind recorded last night was 89mph.  I live about 500 feet above Abq and can see the entire valley from Santa Fe to Belen and watched that sucker very slowly creep across the valley.  Been here 10yrs.  Worst rain/weather I've ever seen.

On a side note...I feel partially responsible.  I had my roof replaced this week.  They finished on Wednesday and my husband said "Okay, it can officially pour down rain, I don't care".  be careful what you seen.  The rain gods were not amused.

My office mate was at the game, he said it was insane. I also want to note that Isotopes park is normally one of the nicest ballgame experiences that a person can have. Being a transplant from the Midwest, we usually treat our old friends to a Topes game, breakfast at Wecks, and dinner at Turtle Mountain when they visit.

Yeah, my wife and I were tooling around the area in 2006, trying to see if this was a place we could live. We stopped at this hole-in-the wall Brewery/pizza place on Southern with folding chairs and tables. I had the best calzone of my life (with green chile), and one beer that was strong enough to make me give her my keys. I was pretty much sold after that. Aside from Springtime, this area is amazing!

As an Albuquerque native recently transplanted to the Midwest...you, sir, are a hell of a host.  I'd kill for 2 of those 3 right now.  Green chile withdrawl nearly killed me in the first couple of weeks.  As much as I miss going to see the 'Topes (Dukes, dammit!!!), when I have an urge to watch AAA baseball I can catch a Royals game.

CSB?
My house down near Cibola HS hasn't sold yet, and I just got a letter from the HOA a couple of days ago telling me that I was in violation of the rules for having a trash container in my driveway.  From the picture, it looks like the city delivered a new can sometime in the ~6 weeks since I moved out.  My folks stopped by today to put it in the garage, but apparently it washed away in last night's storm.  Don't think there was any damage to the house (praying for it...who the hell buys flood insurance in the desert?), but still trying to confirm.

Yeah...that wasn't a CSB, but I told it anyway.
