Seven is not a "spree", Subby.  Nowadays, that's a Saturday.
The only way this stays in the news (and Fark) longer than 24 hours is if the gunman and victims were different races.

Clearly, if more people had guns, this would never have happened.

I think it wouldn't have mattered so much whether or not this guy had a gun, though he did shoot people from a distance. If he had knives I bet he still would have been on a killing spree. He just had a lot of issues.

Too soon to jump to conclusions Subby. I'm sure this was just a man standing his ground.

rkiller1: Seven is not a "spree", Subby.

Correct and incorrect. Yes, subby is wrong: this was not a "spree" killing. But the error is not in the number of dead but that they were all in one location.

The U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics defines a spree killing as "killings at two or more locations with almost no time break between murders".

What this was is better described as a "mass shooting". According to the FBI, a mass shooting is defined as the person murdering four or more persons that occurs in a single location during a particular event with no cooling-off period between the murders.

I am sure that the NYT and the news outlets will report what the races of everyone involved is and will figure out if race was a factor in the shootings.

Florida already has a 3 day waiting permit for a handgun purchase, 4 extra days are probably not going to make a difference.

A physical and ultrasound are not going to reveal any mental issues.

The people repulsed by gun shot wounds and dead people are not going to be the type to commit a gun related crime.

Your fourth point is just stupid.

Are we also going to require car dealerships to have medical facilities? How about cell phone retailers? Lots of accidents are related to texting and driving.

Obviously you don't believe that people should have all the information before they make a decision like this. Why are you opposed to informing shooters? You sound like you have something to hide.

Why are you people upset about some patriot watering the tree of liberty? These things are just the price we pay to protect our freedoms. For us to be able to revolt against our own government (instead of, you know, voting it out) we do the modern equivalent of throwing virgins into a volcano.

He could throw the knives across the street from his balcony. And if the first one missed, he could just keep on throwing - I'm sure he had a magazine full of knives.

Indeed. But you gotta admit, having a hunter required to have an ultrasound before he buys a new rifle at Cabelas is a lulz-inducing mental image.

it does seem we went for a pretty decent stretch there without another mass shooting.

it's been a couple of months at least.

although a month ago, some guys unloaded on some other guys on the west side here with an uzi.  a couple people were shot, and one killed, but it was gang related, so I don't think it counts as a mass shooting.

2013-07-27 11:23:49 AM
I wonder if there are statistics available regrading whether shooters in these crimes were in a state of extreme hunger or not...
How many events were fueled by ravenous, low-blood sugar agitated states of mind when someone actually goes through with an act?

I can't imagine a guy downing a couple quarter pounders with cheese, large fries and shake and then being in the mood for a shooting.

/solution: even more food for Americans

Excellent idea! Gasping tubs of lard can rarely get the strength to waddle onto their Hoverrounds, much less pick up a gun.
