Just 40 year old FBI investigators posing as 14 year old girls. I imagine there are whole teen chat rooms where the agents are chatting with each other but have no idea the others aren't teen girls.

There are plenty of 14 year old girls on the internet, they just aren't gong to talk to you.

I thought these sting operations got turned over in Florida since no molestation took place, you can't charge molestation.

Not defending the guy, just wondering.

And not sure how a Florida ruling effects Georgia.

Wrong, Subby.  There are millions of 14-year-old girls on the Interwebs.  Without them, FaceBook and InstaGram would collapse.
And if you're an over thirty male trying to hookup with an underage girl, you deserve jail time for stupidity.  But if you're a 30+ MILF...

Seriously. I'm about to drive to Chicago to let someone on the internet know they shouldn't be selling large amounts of cocaine.

So I'm basically a hero.

My wife made me watch "to catch a predator" recently and what I gathered from it is that Georgia has laws on the books for intent to have sex with a minor or whatever.  So they basically have guys come from out of state and they give them really weird directions and if they still show up at the house it's intent.

So after watching that I'm not entirely surprised a guy from out of state was arrested in Georgia for this.

I'm thinking about setting up a reality show where I pretend to be a 52 yr old pedophile ( I'm actually 53 HAH!) and I lure the FBI agents into luring me into a rendevous to meeting a 13 yr old girl and then instead of me showing up, I have my 84 yr old grandmother go in disguised as me & all miked up with cameras trained on the whole scene and then interview the disappointed FBI guys.

I just need a name for it and a big network to pick it up and whoo boy there'll be some great footage!

Except that
1. As an adult he really should know better,
2. Predator shows have been televised for many years,
3. 14yo girls think boys over 19 are icky (or so I've been told hundreds if not thousands of times).

Yeah, that.  These people must be unconscionably stupid.  Stings like this one have been well-publicized in the news over the years.

stuhayes2010: I thought these sting operations got turned over in Florida since no molestation took place, you can't charge molestation.

Depends on whether "intent to" or "attempted" is a crime in Georgia, which apparently it is.  He was charged with "criminal attempt aggravated child molestation".  Maybe that's not true in Florida?

Case law from other states isn't binding but you can introduce decisions in similar cases from other states as arguments; their persuasiveness would depend on how similar the laws were between the two states.

As far as legal defense, I personally wonder how it is that these stings don't meet the legal definition of entrapment.  I'd think you'd have to be pretty careful as to how you worded things,  e.g. you'd have to be sure that the alleged predator was the first person to bring up the topic of sex and then of meeting for sex.  I know "To Catch a Predator" has been accused of entrapment in the past.

Reminds me of when In Living Colour had the skit of a TV show called "Thugs" and one the houses they broke into (2:17 AM - Breaking and Entering) had the "Cops" camera crew along with the police out to arrest the Thugs. They showed the camera shots from each show and the logo on the back of each camera!

It amazes me that after shows like "To Catch a Predator" and the countless news stories out there about some adult thinking they are about to hook up with a 14 year old girl that people would realize no 14 or 15 year old girl wants to chat or have a relationship with a man in his 30's, 40's or older and these pervs would wise up.  But even thinking people would learn, you still have idiots like this:

For what, incredible stupidity? Granted it's hard to feel anything but scorn for anybody this stupid, especially since it's not like he's the first one to be set up like this, but I must point out that the only person who gets harmed in such cases is the perpetrator -- by being made a fool of and arrested. Which oughtn't happen: fark the SCOTUS, this is entrapment.

Men, gay, straight or bi, consider this: a cute 14 year old of the appropriate sex/gender sashays up and offers you a free blowjob. Do you consider it, even for a second? If not, what in the hell is wrong with you? Do you deserve your man card? It's one thing to consider that it's not worth whatever risk is involved, but let's not get silly: there's nothing disgusting about the act, it's not like the perp was trying to sodomize a dead goat.

Someone this stupid should be sterilized and forever forbidden a position of responsibility over anybody. But let's not glorify holier-than-thou bullshiat, especially not when it boils down to "there but for bigger balls and/or a lower IQ go I." The plain fact is that something that harms nobody, such as a case where no underage person is involved and no molestation occurs, should not be illegal. "No harm, no foul." Indeed, it should be illegal to set up somebody like this, as illegal as if the poor moron was being cheated out of his money.

Let's have a little noblesse oblige, for fark's sake: somebody this stupid should be protected, not victimized. And finger-pointing moralists should get over yourselves.

"attempt aggravated child molestation"

I'm kinda torn on this...guy should hang for trying to fark a 14-year-old...but he didn't actually do anything (to anyone in this case because the 14-year-old never existed)...just...torn.

At least with attempted murder someone actually did something that should have killed the other party...they weren't just thinking about it.

So here is my idea, we get a 14 yo boy to pose as a 52 yo pedo, then when he shows up with cameras you get to see the look on the FBI's faces when they find out there was no pedo.

but if you are in a sex chat room and if you have to be over 18 to be in the sex chat room why would it be a crime to assume who you are going to meet (or even chatting with) isn't an adult playing younger?

Or are these fools in a like a disney type teen room where everything is supposed to be clean.

Heck to be honest I would assume any "young girl" talking dirty in a chat room is really some old fat male farker LOL

Funny thing, that was actually true once.  In 1999, hell, I'll even give you 2005.  But this is the age of cell phones and tablets.  Every 8 year old has a farking iphone or mommies old tablet.

Oh? They told me that what mattered was hunky looks, a big bankroll (or credit rating), a cool car and his own place. The ability to supply booze & drugs didn't hurt either. And don't forget to mention modeling, acting or singing: it helps to hint you could make a chick great big star envied by all.

Of course I got 18 year olds with less effort, but then I'm weird.

By the way, in what US state is it legal for a 19 your old male to fark a 14 year old of either sex?

Virus. You must figure that given some of these repeatable behaviors, in the face of common sense, there must be a parasite short-circuiting the host's brain, and hijacking the behaviors for a secondary reason...a better question would be, why is this parasite so desperate to get close to men of authority (hence the obvious 'come get me' behaviors?)? Oh wait...I think I answered that question.

is it just me or are the only stories about this involving men?  I can't recall ever reading about a woman in her 30's or older seducing a 15 year old boy on the internet.  And granted when a man does it, it is "oh dear god that perv should be hung by his testicles" but when the genders are reversed everyone wants to give the boy a high five.  I guess that is the way it is in society today.

/When I was back in school I do remember knowing one girl who was 15 or 16 who was going out with a 23 year old and her parents were cool with it even though other parents in the community would discuss how they were bad parents.

Waldo Pepper: but if you are in a sex chat room and if you have to be over 18 to be in the sex chat room why would it be a crime to assume who you are going to meet (or even chatting with) isn't an adult playing younger?

(I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice)

In general, the fact that the victim misrepresented her age (a 15 year old pretending she was 18, for instance) is not a defense to criminal charges related to actual or attempted sexual misconduct with a minor.

2013-07-27 01:18:25 PM
There are 14 yr old girls on the internet - they just hang out at sites you don't and speak a language that doesn't make sense to adults. If you can understand what they type, on the first attempt, it is a cop.

Men, gay, straight or bi, consider this: a cute 14 year old of the appropriate sex/gender sashays up and offers you a free blowjob. Do you consider it, even for a second? If not, what in the hell is wrong with you? Do you deserve your man card? Maybe not all men are sexually attracted to children. Yes, there is something disgusting about the act. While many girls have boobs by 14, they are still obviously kids.

So a young girl needs to be hurt before a perv like this is arrested? It is well known that sex with a 14 yr old is illegal. How is saying 'hey, why don't you drive to another state and break the law' entrapment?

2013-07-27 01:18:34 PM

The One True TheDavid: it boils down to "there but for bigger balls and/or a lower IQ go I."

It struck me as I was shaving that this misused a common idiom: it should be "there but for my smaller balls and/or higher IQ go I." Less chance of misunderstanding that way. Or something.
