Seriously?

I don't know what that means, but let's face it: Jay z embodies ruthless capitalism, which he's very good at.

Charity doesn't really enter the mix, so to speak.

I'm trying to figure out who this guy is, again... I mean I think he's a singer or something but I haven't heard any of his songs... Maybe he's an actor... I'm just not sure.

That other guy was in Bob Marley's band -the Wailers before anyone else was in it. I know him.

FTA:  "I'm offended by that because first of all, and this is going to sound arrogant, but my presence is charity. Just who I am,". "Just like Obama's is. Obama provides hope. Whether he does anything, the hope that he provides for a nation, and outside of America is enough."

So not only is his presence charity, but he's on par with Obama.

I look forward with glee to the day hip-hop / rap artists are legally hunted. Contributing to the downfall of a portion of society is nothing to be proud of.

Link is useful. All that stuff about #1 records, Rolling Stone rankings, and Grammies, and I don't know if I've ever heard him. Course, I've long thought Grammies were evidence of bland mediocrity in music.

This. He recorded and sold his baby's first sounds. I'm pretty sure he'd sell Beyonce's panties if he could get away w/ it.

Let's not lose sight of what's truly important, and that is Jay-Z's music being some of the most over-rated horsesh*t in the history of recorded music. Peter, Paul, and Mary recorded funkier stuff.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that the criticism was leveled by another African-American artist whose own contributions to various causes are a fair yardstick to measure Jay Z's against.
To say that "one's presence" is charity is unabashedly self-centered and egotistical in the extreme. I don't think that pointing it out makes me (or others) a racist. Going further than that might.

I guess I  could be angry at the arrogance of this guy.  But isn't a lot of rap about boasting on how great you are and how much excess you live in?

He knows what his brand is and he plays it to the hilt.

He is, however, a perfect example of how money can't buy class.
