He he he he... "Gunderson".

He'll insist on two weeks of therapy.

I explained to Gunderson that it's my duty to be fair and treat everyone who commits a crime equally," Welsh wrote in his report.

The sheriff's office requires medical clearance for any inmates to be accepted with a blood-alcohol level that high. The trooper who arrested Gunderson took him to his home rather than wait at the hospital for that clearance or take up a bed at detox, according to the State Patrol reports.

He brought him home because the jail couldn't take him. Sounds like a good decision.

Which would be the worse punishment: being taken drunk to jail, or being taken drunk to your ex-wife's house in the middle of the night?

Decisions, decisions...

Mayor, eh?

"It's not news, it's Fark."

2013-07-26 10:25:43 PM
So, when you're the mayor, does this stuff just happen to you, or do you have to go around scaring the shiat out of everybody and making deals with the police chief beforehandto get special treatment?

Dd he text wiener pics though?

Actually sounds like the arresting officer handled it admirably, as did the department by turning the matter over to the State Police.
Did I just compliment the cops? Well, better than politicians, I suppose.

should've waited another half hour, tested him again so he showed less than 0.25 and tossed him in the pokey

Can't blame him for getting bombed, he was probably going crazy up there by the lake.

Sounds like the trooper's one of those eluisive good apple types. Had the balls to arrest the mayor, but showed a little mercy bringing him home on what must have been his worst night in a while.
Question though: What if ol' Gundy chokes on his own vomit that night? Who's on the tab?

Also: Sounds like my ex-wife. God bless her.

Reminds me of the legend of the time a Texas State Trooper brought the sheriff to the jail on a DUI.

2013-07-26 10:41:29 PM
Everyone, except the mayor, seems to have behaved honorably here. It's not like the cop was letting him dodge the DUI.

So, the mayor got drunk and blew three state troopers while over the limit at his ex-wife's house? I just skimmed over the description, sorry.

Criminy, I grew up just a couple miles from there.

If cops simply drove most drunks home - the happy, my bad types, we'd save sooo much hassle in the 'criminal justice' system.

A BAC that high isn't all that easy to achieve, even for hardened drunks like I used to be. If he consumed that much at a bar, he should have been cut off long before he got that high.

Look, I know bars are in the business of selling alcohol, I know bartenders are already burdened enough when it's busy, and I know that drunks are adults and are responsible for their own behavior, but all the same bars need to be more proactive in cutting off their customers. The first thing to go is judgment, and I promise you that when it all came apart for me I would drink until the money was gone, stopping was impossible for me. In the end, someone has to show some responsibility.

I'm sorry, you just don't know that area. I used to get so drunk there, it was almost like Wisconsin.

What is so great about getting drunk in Wisconsin, if I may so humbly ask?

Drinking is a national passtime in Wisconsin, the cops that pull you over might just have a beer in hand when they walk up to your window.

That's pretty awesome. I don't know if it was Wisconsin, somewhere up there, but there was a Food Channel (?) thing where they just go totally nuts, over the top, just insane Bloody Marys. Like stick a cheeseburger on the toothpick made of bacon type of over the top.  Wisconsin or nearby environs?

Down here in the South, If I get 3 green olives I feel like some kind of high rolling VIP.

In my defense, those garbage pails had no business driving down the road at that hour of the night.  As mayor, I demand those pails be bought to justice.

Yeah, but what if he was wasted BEFORE he got to the bar and had just a few drinks there? He seemed to be walking just fine in the brief video clip I saw. Sometimes its hard to tell if a hardened alcoholic is too intoxicated, especially when he's just sitting on a bar stool.

As a current drunk, I know you need no reminder that we drunks can seem "fine", but be completely hammered.  I know I've had nights where people couldn't tell I was hammered, but, had I operated a motor vehicle, I would have been a serious risk to kill someone.

Pissing down your pant leg like a little girl is a pretty obvious tell-tale.

You couldn't kill someone if you put all your My Little Pony dolls in a bag and dropped them off the 10th floor.

is sexist bullshiat really required ?

(father of a son and daughter, brother to 5 boys, 1 girl, husband to two women... separately of course, son of a man and a woman, pissing down the leg is not a uniquely female trait you degrading POS)

WhoopAssWayne:

Yeah, with an handle like that, you're not a day over 14, so your parents are terrible people when they let you get drunk enough to piss yourself.  Also, your parents should have done a better job with the potty training, since all the people I know have no problem making it to a bathroom when drunk.

Also, quit projecting your pony fetish on to other people.
