Just wait until a rural sheriff decides on "burst from AR-15" as the window-breaking method.

The biatches are worth so much more.

Not that I'd give a fark what the law says anyway, if I saw a dog or a kid left in a hot car, in distress. ;)

he legislation, if passed in the Senate, will allow rescue workers, animal control officers, and firefighters to use "any reasonable means" to enter a vehicle if they suspect an animal is at risk, the Charlotte Observer reported.

I vote for the axe.  Start at the windshield.

I was going with: Wait until some rural dog owner sees a person breaking into his car and decides to stand his ground.

I don't like it. I've had some disagreements about when my dog is safe in my car, I would be really annoyed if someone broke my window on a 65degF day.

We really do not want a north Carolina tag. I would be hopeful that this will help but I'm sure one of or outstanding law enforcement officers is going to decide the best way to get in a car is with his service weapon.

Good on the NC House for passing this bill. Next up: a bill to train cops not to shoot animals they feel threatened by without trying some other reasonable intervention first. ProTip: Most dogs are all bark and no bite.

Shhhh, nobody tell them that being nice to animals is part of Sharia Law.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_and_animals#Qur.27an

The Qur'an applies the word "Muslim" not only to humans but also to other animals and the inanimate world. "The divine will manifests itself in the form of laws both in human society and in the world of nature." In Islamic terminology, for example, a bee is a Muslim precisely because it lives and dies obeying the sharia that God has prescribed for the community of bees, just as a person is a Muslim by virtue of the fact that he or she submits to the revealed sharia ordained for humans in the Qur'an and Sunnah.[9]

The Quran strongly enjoins Muslims to treat animals with compassion and not to abuse them. The Qur'an states that all creation praises God, even if this praise is not expressed in human language.[1][2] In verse 6:38, the Qur'an applies the term ummah, generally used to mean "a human religious community", for genera of animals. The Encyclopaedia of the Qur'an states that this verse has been "far reaching in its moral and ecological implications."[10]

Wondering if anyone who worked on this legislation was able to produce data on how many animals are harmed annually by being kept in a vehicle.

I'm amazed tha bill made it through without someone attaching a measure requiring a probulator session before getting birth control.

they should just turn this into a 'stand you ground' law, allowing anyone who perceives a threat happening inside a car to break out the car's windows.

I often sit in the car while my wife goes shopping, she takes forever to shop.  Even a "I only need to pick up X" at the supermarket turns into 45 min or more.  I don't leave the car running.  I've been just fine in temps well above 60.

I agree with the 60 degrees thing.  It's not good to let a cop decide these things.
I have a problem that they said "cold weather" too.  I have a siberian husky.  He sits in the car for 20-30 minutes occasionally in the winter.  I've had people get upset, clearly not understanding that those dogs are fine in low temps.  I'd hate to come back to a broken window when the dog is perfectly comfortable.

No, but I would notice if it was getting uncomfortably hot.  The point at which the ambient temperature is too hot for a dog, is hot enough to cause a human discomfort.

have a rescue cat living under my desk. We turn the A/C off when we leave. The other day, when I came in (6:30 A.M.) she was lying on her back, legs splayed in all directions, obviously miserable, it was 82 degrees.

A bunch of mouth breathing voters forgot what happens when you let either party have control of both houses in the legislature and the governorship.

Unfortunately, we currrently have an all ultra conservative Republican government which is making things even worse by working hard at returning the state to 1800's values...you know, the kind of people who think it's OK to remove background checks on weapon purchases. (struck from the bill, luckily)

The problem with leaving your dog in the car while you do your thing is that you aren't there to judge the ambient temperature and act accordingly. That is what the problem be.

Wow! I love how lib's like to over exaggerate, but you take the cake.

1. I agree with you there
2. Under the new law, you can get an abortion, just the government won't pay for it unless (wait for it) the pregnancy endangers a woman's life. In which case the government WILL pay for it
3. African Americans, just like ANY other group can get state issued Voter ID cards. Are you saying African Americans are not smart enough to go to the DMV?

I don't know what NC is like, but here in OK, going to the DMV is an all-day affair, and god help you if you forget something or fill out a form wrong.
