How does one take a cab from NY to LA?  The cab wouldn't legally be allowed to operate outside of a certain area.

I think that in some areas companies will look the other way and let the cabbie and passenger negotiate a private agreement, as long as they don't pay for the fuel and get a cut for "vehicle upkeep".

At least that's what the guy explained to us when me and a couple of other guys graduated basic and wanted to take a cab from Fort Wood, Mo to Kansas City.  It was on an army base, so he was probably just scamming the company out of the fare and not pulling down the little flag.  But who knows.  That entire industry is sketchy.

The photo of her mother walking out of the looney bin after visiting her is a bit telling.   She's smiling like, "Now I have control Biatch!"  It's kind of Cruella DeVille.

So he got jealous that he didn't have control over her money anymore so he got her locked up? An evil lesson from Britney Spears' father.

I wonder how different he would see conservatorship if he wasn't in charge of Amanda's finances.

40 hour trip straight through from NY to LA according to google directions.  I doubt the validity of such claims.

She wouldn't stay sane enough for that long cooped up in a car with some random cabbie, nor would a random cabbie tolerate her. with food and sleep being an issue I don't see any even shady cab company doing this.  A 4 hour trip outside their zone but close enough to return home the same day, sure.

A little bit sanitized, this would make for a nice romcom: Stressed out socialite hires cab driver to go to LA. It's a journey of discovery for both of them...

Make her a lot more twee and include some "biggest ball of string in the heartlands" moments, and you'll get an indie movie.

Or just don't sanitize it and go for the Sid/Nancy vibe.

/But realistically, I thought that NYC cabbies wouldn't even go to NJ unless threatened with lethal force

You'd be amazed what someone can tolerate when they are getting road head from a broken down yet still hittable starlet.

Can we get a movie made about that cab ride? I don't even care if it's true or not, I'm just in love with the idea.

Or it could be "Now I can FINALLY control my daughter and get her the help she needs." They tried getting her help sooner, but the courts deemed that she was not at the level of crazy where she needed other people to control her (She's an adult after all). Now that she's setting fires on other people's properties, the crazy level is enough to at least get her locked up so she's not a danger to herself and others.

Her parents are already used to handling her finances and her professional life since she was a child actress. She seemed to be handling herself well since she turned 18, but only recently when her mental illness began manifesting were her parents interested in taking control of her again.

Not sure about crossing state lines, but in general cabs only need a permit for areas where they pick people up. Now that said, obviously the cab driver has a long return trip before he can legally pick people up again.

omg Amanda Bynes' father is Rudy Giuliani? Who knew?!

I can just see Ms. Bynes' response to any action: Mr. Giuliani's attorney is ugly. I definitely would not let her wreck my vagina. Defendant, therefore, respectfully requests a dismissal of this action.

I could easily blow $1.4 million in a couple of weeks.  There's a Ferrari/Maserati dealership less than an hour's drive from my place.

2013-07-26 04:49:07 PM
There's no f*cking way she hailed a cab in NY and actually took it to LA. 3,000 miles? 40 hours? A cab driver that likely spoke very little English?

What, did they stop for food together? Did they sleep in the cab or get a room? Together or separate? Was she doing her drugs in the backseat?

Story reeks of bullshiat.

Just read a report by scientists yesterday (which will be reversed by another group of scientists in few years no doubt) that men over 50 or 10 or more years older than their wife have a high chance of producing children with future mental issues such as schizo and manic depression.  Looking at how old her parents appear to be it makes one wonder if these results are on display with Amanda...

Well, I could take a cab, or I could ask a buddy to take me. Though, I like the idea of having $1.4 million, asking a buddy to take me to the Ferrari dealership, but if he's busy I can just get a cab, where he would then offer to take me, assuming that if I was willing to pay for a cab I'd pay him at least for the gas, thank him for taking me to the Ferrari dealership and not even chip in for gas as I head in to buy a Ferrari with all the possible options and extended warranty.

/Why yes, my friends do think of me as an asshole

Yeah, I knew a rich girl in New York whose friends used to get a cab to go to a Jersey Mikes in NJ when they craved a sub. It cost a lot but hey, it's not like they earned that money!

The NYC to LA cab ride has been done; although by sane people and significant planning.  I would guess any cabbie who agreed to that would probably have dumped Bynes on the interstate somewhere in PA and gone back home.

No where does it say that it was one straight cab ride from NY to LA. She could have gone from say like NY to NJ, NJ to Philly, Philly to Pittsburgh, and swapped Cabs at every stop.
