Somewhere, Bill Carter is gearing up for "The Late Shift III: Leno's Revenge."

I still catch Dave every once in awhile. The older he gets the more crabby he is and the better the jokes get.

I haven't really watched any late night show since Conan got moved.  Not out of spite, just that none of that stuff is remotely entertaining.

C'mon, Jay, it's not too late. Fulfill Bill Hicks's prophecy. First, get an Uzi. Next, have Joey Lawrence and Patrick Duffy on your show.

Offer the Tonight Show to Ferguson. Watch Letterman ignite with the fury of a thousand Michael Bay explosions times a million JJ Abrams lens flares.

I don't get the Leno hate. He's a car guy plus, he's out there EVERY night with fresh material.

I don't care much about Fallon, but man, I love The Roots.

The problem is that the middle Americans that watch Jay will totally be turned off by The Roots.

They should just park Leno there until they have a better option, even if he is garbage. Hey, some people like garbage.

If by "fresh material" you mean Monica Lewinski jokes, then yes.

Johnny Carson said thank you and good night.
I turned off late night television and never really bothered to turn it back on.
End of an era.
Now get off my lawn.

Leno is ok. I'll watch him or Kimmel sometimes, but Fallon is just pure garbage and that is an insult to garbage.

"Unreliable rumors "

2013-07-26 01:22:51 PM
Oh for, why don't the network executives just get it over and let leno release whatever blackmail material he has so they can kick him off the air? He's not funny, he's one of the biggest douchebags in hollywood, and his ratings are slipping anyway.

Britain's Parliament has passed a bill allowing gay marriage. You thought royal weddings were big? Wait until the first gay royal wedding!

I mean, I can't imagine an amateur coming up with a well-crafted jab like that. TAKE THAT, YOUR MAJESTY!

It seems like there is a disproportionate amount of focus on a timeslot where the ratings of the winner is around 0.8/3.0.

I have to assume it's people clinging to an era long past, when there were 3 major channels, and the late night show of choice mattered.  Most nights, if we have something on to fall asleep to, it's Adult Swim. That's our thing. Last night, my boyfriend was in one room watching some show he liked on USA or whatever and I was in bed watching "Orange is the New Black" on our iPad.

There's no culture based around the late night show, like there once was. When I was in high school (early 90s), it was a big deal to watch Conan O'Brien after the late show. Just like it was a big deal when I was in grade school and early high school to watch "Saturday Night Live" and talk about it on Monday.  Now we have on demand, DVR, Netflix - we're all watching what we want, when we want.

The old guard, though, still thinks that one show, and that one slot is important. I don't know that any one slot is important, though it seems that I tend to care about (and know people who care about) what's going on Sunday nights at 9:00 and 10:00, in general, on HBO, Showtime, FX or AMC.

People watching those shows are probably mostly people in their 20s and 30s with no kids and retirees. I.e. people with a lot of disposable income that advertisers want.

This is what I can't figure out. Why are the networks so damn worried about bridging across that 10-10:30 local news gap? What are they gaining from it? Is being able to flog other shows on the networks with an 8 minute interview/clip really that important?

Never did understand the Leno bashing....Conan proved to be an unfunny train wreck...and his manager/PR whack Gavin Pollone (think thats his name) spent so much time trashing Leno because his douche client sucked

Reality is that Leno gets the ratings...and the others don't . And Leno does poke fun at all political sides....unlike the perv Letterman

Really? Most of my friends (myself included) are 30s, no kids, and I don't know anyone who watches those shows.

I figured retirees, people who were used to watching The Tonight Show/Letterman when that was really all there was, then calling it a night.

the assumption is late night viewers translate to better ratings for the morning show.

seems no one told network execs about "the clicker" people can use to change channels without walking across the room.

1) Why would you watch anything but TDS and Colbert from 11-12?
2) Republicans do not deserve a fair shake until they unf*ck themselves from the jaws of the Tea Party insanity.
3) Roger Ailes can EABOD and DIAF.

Why? Are the seniors homes not going to let their guests fall asleep to NBC any more?

The numbers from this week should be interesting now that Time Warner in Milwaukee no longer carries NBC.

/Not that Milwaukee is that big of a market.

1. Report two unlikely rumors.
2. Spend two screens on speculating about them in an alarming manner.
3. Finish your speculation with "So are these rumors true? I'd bet they both aren't."

Allow me to venture a more likely postulation...

Your blog sucks.

Someone will have to kill Jay Leno to make the rumors of his resurrection quiet down.  And even then, they won't stop altogether.  The guy's like a bad farking Terminator.

coeyagi:

Watch them online, instead. It's more convenient and less annoying.

2) Republicans do not deserve a fair shake until they unf*ck themselves from the jaws of the Tea Party insanity.

Tip of the iceberg. Besides, 95% of Republican guests are terrible and boring on TV.

3) Roger Ailes can EABOD and DIAF.

This is unfair to bags of dicks and to fires.

I like Leno, but I hate his show. It does not play to his strengths. He should be doing a car show. Fallon and Ferguson should do a sketch comedy show with celebrity guests instead of doing dull interviews. Kimmel is a sad dog's pizzle, annoying and unfunny and embarrassing; he was just right to be second banana to Ben Stein ten years after Stein peaked.

Carson was great, and Letterman was great back when Carson was still on the air. Now, if you're watching late-night talk shows, you probably just lack imagination. Do yourself a favor and get Netflix or something.

Watched it last night as a matter of fact. Johnny was the Tonight Show, and it was never the same after he was gone.

/was surprised to learn Ed was only drunk on set once

A lot of people like it but the wife and I watched the first episode and were totally unimpressed. It was either trying to be a dramatic comedy or a funny drama but it mainly just managed to be meh.
