Boojum2k: theknuckler_33: M-i-L is going to buy a dozen and it's lobster feast tomorrow night! Can't wait!

*drool* damn the South, damn it to hell. I'd have to pay three times as much for lobster here, and it's nowhere near as good.

We can't even get the (not as good) Caribbean Lobsters cheap in FL.  Actually, that's one thing that's baffled me about living in this state - you'd think seafood would be dirt cheap because so much of it comes in here, but it's really not.

Tom_Slick: I've had one in Maine, it wasn't bad, not as good as the road side lobster shacks, but not horrible.

That's the first place I thought of.  I guess some reporters have never been to the northeast.  Place is lousy with lobster.  Lobster rolls, lobster stew, lobster chowder, lobster cakes, lobster...

It's a seafood salad using lobster; never understood the zeal.

Lobster is ridiculously overrated and overpriced.

It's really funny and fitting that people are buying ocean cockroaches from mcdonalds though.

I guess it's fun to eat something that would gladly pick away at your rotting corpse at the bottom of the sea.

Overpriced (outside of New England) yes, over-rated?  Hell no.

I'd take lobster meat over just about any other kind of protein if given the choice.  I get that not everyone likes it, but it's not popular just because of the luxury correlation, it is genuinely delicious.

As far as them being scavengers - so are crabs, and mollusks are either scavengers or filter feeders, plenty of fish would happily chow down on you if you fell to the bottom of the ocean, etc.  That doesn't make any of them any less delicious.

Vancouver in the early 90's. Monday's was Pizza Hut all you can eat for $5.99 and Tuesday's was McDonald's all you can eat for $5.00.

/ Thank god for late teen's / early 20's metabolism.

You kniow there is a glut of lobster when the regional fish 'n' chip chain sells a lobster club for the same price as the turkey club.

Dear Lobster Fisherpersons in Nova Scotia and PEI (and particularly the fine folks at Clearwater Foods:

Us folks in Louisville, KY are more than happy to take those yummy waterbugs off your hands via overnight live shipment, especially if the rumours are true of lobster going for C$3.25-4/lb. :D  (Bonus: At least here in Louisville, we already HAVE a facility right by the UPS hub to keep the lobsters happy and healthy on their very short layover between the first leg of their journey from Halifax to Louisville and their final leg of the journey to Lobster Valhalla via a boil pot or a grill. :3)

Love (me some big ol' nummy waterbugs),
-GPD

/not joking about the ship facility, either--amost all lobster that goes to the inland US is live shipped overnight from Halifax to Louisville's big UPS hub, and there's a place right by UPS you can damn near buy the lobster right off the plane (right after its three-hour tour from Halifax right off the boats)
//probably about the only place not directly on a coast where it's possible to get lobster that is a semblance of "freshly caught"
///WISH it was $4.00/lb here, hehe...seriously, the markup here is roughly equivalent to the general markup on gas in Canuckistan because it's sold per liter rather than per gallon (even though Clearwater is cheaper than most prices, it's at least double if not triple what they're selling for in Halifax).   Perhaps the markup is to pay for jet fuel for the 747s? :D

Authentic Chop Suey: It's farking mayo and lobster on a hot dog bun. Trained monkeys could make these by the gross.

And only McDonalds could make them gross.

I have made this at a home, and it is quite tasty.  I am pretty sure that like everything at McDonald's (except for the fries and Coca-Cola) that it is extremely bland and boring.

Disgruntled Goat: deansnose: $4/lb for lobster? Hell of a mark up when it's like $20/lb in stores. I know, processing, shipping, but still. And I would NOT risk eating something like that at a McD's...

Why? How often do you hear of health code violations at a McDonald's? Or tainted food?

You don't, because McDonald's has a big-ass bullseye on them and is under the microscope of every regulatory and food watchdog group around.

But people just keep parroting the same old bullshiat.

Not about tainted food..just inferior product.
