Saw him and that band of his (the name escapes me) in Newark in December. He's still one hell of a vocalist/performer.

I am glad you liked it, but I don't understand it. The Stones have been downright awful live for something like 30 years, in my opinion. And most of that comes from the fact that Mick can't sing at all anymore. Sounds like an animal being tortured.

I respectfully disagree, although I do get what you're talking about. He went through a "Bob Dylan Live"-ish phase in the late 80's early 90's where it seemed like he just didn't care how he sounded onstage. But he started trying again about the time of the Voodoo Lounge tour, with satisfying results.

Keith, on the other hand, has slowed down quite a bit. They're trying to cover that up some by sticking Mick Taylor, John Mayer, etc. on stage with them, but it's fairly obvious that bump on the head took a toll.

"all rock 'n' rollers over the age of 50 look stupid and should retire." Grace Slick

I agree with her.  I never go see bands from my youth.  They seem pathetic and only a reminder that I'm not so young anymore.  (And giant arena shows have always sucked.)

Within the last couple of years, I've seen Devo, the B-52s, Blondie, and Cheap Trick, among others, in fairly small, local venues. They've all put on good shows. Not surprising, really, since they've been at it for decades.

I gotta disagree with you there. I saw Aerosmith months ago and I thought they were amazing. There were a few moments where I thought the Steven Tyler was gonna die of a heart attack but overall, it was still an awesome show. As long as you can still rock, even if you're no longer at your peak, then screw age.

When could Aerosmith rock?

Oh wait, do you mean that one rockin' song, "Cryin' Amazing Blind Man Don't Wanna Miss a Thing"?

Ever notice how you never hear anyone telling, say, B.B. King or Tony Bennett that they should retire?

I think if your style of music is dead or dying, not to mention the majority of your fan base, nobody's asking you to stop it already. Now, I guess it could be argued that rock music is dead or dying.

Entirely different genres. Blues (B.B. King) and standards (Bennett) are genres that actually respect age and experience. Young people just look silly singing about the pain and disappointments of life, or torch songs about bitter romantic losses.

Rock and roll has always supposed to reflect youth, vitality, and rebellion. 50+-year old rock stars bring none of that to the table.

Come on, he just proclaimed his love for Thatcher, how much more rebellious can you get?
