All I know is that if they think anyone is going to take this sitting down, they are sorely mistaken. I will not have my sole source of random women blowing random men at some highway stop dogging all night long be taken away from me. There are knuckle kids that belong in a tissue and if the UK has done anything  great, it's been creating a great source of material to accomplish this.

So I stand at attention in solidarity with you UK in denouncing this attempt at limiting your source of expression.

What's wrong with a "white list" for kids?  If you want your kids to be "protected" from sites, you'll use that list.  Otherwise, you can go wherever you want.

The world should not be all rounded edges and swallow-proof cushioning.  Children are wonderful and important (they are our future *snerk*) but they aren't and shouldn't be the only priority in people's lives.

"For the children!" is always always ALWAYS just an excuse to get the ball rolling so mission creep can set in. The real goal is simply more power over the populace.

Its not going to happen because its been talked about for ten years and every time its never been seen in Parliament. A press release to drum up support from your base isn't the same as a bill being introduce. Its a non issue.

Why is it only good Christian people who have problems with porn randomly popping up on their computer?  I don't use any kind of filtering for porn at all, and I never accidentally stumble upon it.   When I want it, I go to it, else I leave it alone. However, I have known a lot of super good Christian guys, who tell stories about all this porn just popping up on their computer, and then their wife walked in, and it was really embarrassing, and how the government needs to censor that stuff.  Weird.

I still don't like the empire's new clothes.

Cameron is crazy, but Miliband would leave the country in a similar state as it was in the late 70's ie. ready for another Thatcher.

For the Conservatives its been part of Great Britain since 1707 so breaking up GB is against the fabric of national identity and Labour don't want it to go as it gets a very large percentage of its MPs from Scotland.

It's one thing to HAVE rights, but to demand that the government RESPECT them? That's . . . . that's just RUDE. It sounds like something a terrorist would say. Report to your local police station to receive your caning.

I completely take your point about lame excuses. Once upon a time that did happen though. Porn sites paid affiliate marketing fees, so it was common for viruses to force visits to porn sites using the virus authors affiliate code. They would add scripting that opened two new windows each time you closed one. It worked wonders into finally shaming co-workers into not running programs sent via email to virus infect their PC. (before email server filtering)

Very low standards for what is considered porn. When you consider anything raunchier than Little House on the Prairie to be pornographic, your porn-free browsing is going to be fairly limited.

Because they are so god damn stupid they don't install an antivirus?  Because when you shame your kids for having sexual urges, they will still secretly look at porn any chance they get?

Back in the day I had a Bravenet.com blog. Somewhere in the user sections was a page where you could see where you were getting traffic from. Lots of strange URLs on there that I'd click to see where they came from, and a LOT were porn. And some of it was shiat that was even too freaky for me. Eventually I figured out that no, my blog wasn't being linked to from a bestiality site, they had just set it up so that they'd be at the top of my traffic list and in the hopes that I'd click the link and go to their site.

That and a lot of Farkers and Redditors have a really loose definition of what images are SFW.

We've used most of Scotland's oil. But they've just found huge reserves of fracking reserves in England, just in time to keep us going if Scotland leaves. Which is nice.

If Scotland leaves Labour will never get into office again....

When setting defaults means calling someone on the phone and requesting the default be turned off that's a lot tougher than just going in and changing a quick config on your PC.

Question time.  Has anyone done a study on how many people really use the V-Chip?  I would be curious to see those numbers.  Cross reference that to the complaints about obscenity etc on TV programs.

I can just imagine you guys "rising up" to trade fire with infantry units outnumbering you 20 to 1 and wearing body armor your bullets can't penetrate. Your notions of armed uprising are something out of a video game or summer blockbuster.

Or better yet, them rising up and standing in a street expecting war and not a single soldier is around. Next thing you know a 18lb thermobaric warhead detonates above them killing everyone within a 200 yard radius, the missile fired from a drone 5 miles away.

Why not make the default "off"? Why assume no response means "please censor the information I have access to"? Why not just offer this super amazing service that everyone is sure to want, and make it easy for those who want it to get it? Why is a government getting into the business of controlling information its citizens see at all?

Seriously, you have to be an idiot to fight against the US government. Obama is better armed than your typical mideast dictator and he has far, far fewer qualms about using military force on troublemakers who act against American interests.

Research how the french and other resistances worked in WWII, Research how the Taliban and other Radicals/Insurgents operate.

Now reflect that those guys operated with forces of hundreds, maybe thousands.

If there was a popular uprising in the states and only 1% of the population took to arms, there would be 3 million people using those tactics against 1 million troops, of those only maybe 100k are actually combat troops the rest are support.

No one with any military training believes we'd have control for more than 24 hours up against something like that.

Because only stupid /lazy parents would give young children unfettered access to the Internet. And stupid lazy people aren't going to change defaults.
