Spain might want to back off the hot-dogging with expensive hardware thing for a few days...

LoneVVolf: Spain might want to back off the hot-dogging with expensive hardware thing for a few days...

Yeah, I have to think that pilot is SO grounded and maybe disqualified.  Had he yiffed that, not only would he have killed himself, obliterated a $50M aircraft, but also killed his buddies and cratered that runway.

Still: from the foreign spectator's point of view, I'm loving it.  That was crazy close!

Apparently, Spanish pilots (now why did I want to write peanuts), also drive trains.

Landing gear not down, pitch attitude close to level, high airspeed.

Well, at that attitude I doubt he would have craters the runway. Although where in Spain you might find enough snow shovels to scrape off the remains I have no idea.

Fate will wait to take him in 20 years when he tries that with the 747 he's flying at the time.

The planes in Spain are mainly quite insane.

Second.

Having seen quite a few touch and goes while working on the flight line.

Ok, Airforce folks...   How strong is the ground effect force at those types of speeds and altitudes?  I've read that it will act as sort of a buffer to keep you from scraping.

I'll go with "meh" as well. The Pampa pass was considerably lower with half the amount of air underneath.

They don't take off nice and level at 2 feet above the ground, they climb.

There's a long and tragic history of planes doing touch and go's without any landing gear deployed.

My view is that if you're the pilot, you should be allowed to fly the plane as you CFIT.

That could get expensive... Of course, it would also thin out the herd.

Oh, my.  Some people are just nuts.  I see that the making up of false etymologies to justify political silliness is also still in vogue.  See also: picnic; rule of thumb

For the upteenth time: It's a corruption of the phrase "Crazy as a shiathouse bat" as in a bat driven insane by nesting in an outhouse and being driven mad by the smell. Jeez.

As for the approach, yeah, he's just resting on the ground effect.

My view is that if you're the pilot, you should be allowed to fly the plane as you CFIT.

Yup.  He won't ever fly military aircraft again.  It's not his plane.  It's not his runway.  It's not his life.
