Unfortunately, BigHairyGuy and Ialso have a sad in our household this week. Leonardo has been losing weight and just recently was diagnosed with IBS and lymphoma in his small intestines. We worked with the Vet to get him better with steroids, appetite stimulants and anti nausea meds, and things were looking ok. But Tuesday, after he got his daily pills (the sweetie was SO good about taking his pills), he started acting extremely weird. By Tuesday night, I was so worried I called the Vet too see what was going on. She mentioned side effects of the appetite stimulants, and checking the internet we found his symptoms were spot on for Serotonin Syndrome, so we were all set up to take him in Wednesday morning. When we got there, the Vet took a look at him and said he was very dehydrated, and might need some electrolytes, and he wanted to do some blood work and kept him for the day to see how he did after that course of action.Well with a VERY high white blood cell count, and abnormal liver numbers, the Vet did x-rays and an ultrasound, and our poor baby's liver was in very bad shape. About all we could do was to keep him medicated and try to make him comfortable. We didn't feel right letting him suffer just to keep him with us, so Leo crossed the Rainbow Bridge Wednesday evening.Leo was a rescue kitty, and became my Master in March of 2004. BigHairyGuy joined us in 10/2009.Sweet, sassy, cuddly and silly; he leaves a big hole in our lives and in our hearts.
Whenever we have a sad, or series of same, remember that some animal crept into a life, formed a bond strong enough, that the loss creates a hole in life. And soul.

As I mentioned last week, Mr. p_v is doing a hike up Mt. Washington in New Hampshire in 3 weeks to raise money to support research to fight mental health issues and protect hiking trails. I'm posting the link to his fundraising page and asking that those who are able to do so please consider donating any amount to help him and the cause out.

Used 2 Be, could set for Less Toner Use with WinXP.. Evidently not with Pro7. Looked where I could & saw no indication that could be chosen. boo hisss

akimbotoo: maynerdkitty: [farm4.staticflickr.com image 500x333]This morning the little biddies flew up to the training roost and stood around up there grooming. For some reason it reminded me of the girls bathroom in high school. I should put a mirror up for them! It takes a lot of skill to stand up there and straighten all of their new little feathers. Some fell when they tried it.OMG! That would be a hilarious! Of course they would also need a teeny tiny little Justin Bieber picture too!
Meanwhile, for absolutely no reason that I can ascertain, the brush has gone from being his worst enemy (after the dreaded vacuum, of course) to his best friend....
Speaking of the white boy, I have been told in no uncertain terms that I have been spending way too much time farking and playing tennis, and not enough time petting and posting pics of him....
lilyspad: Good to hear! I hope he continues on this path! Skritches to Buddy (and you too!) :D
akimbotoo: That is wonderful to hear sweetie! I know you both cherish the time you have with him. Those are adorable new pictures! I love that blur of a tail! I figure that if he feels good enough to have some "quality time" with his white bear, that is a good sign! :D
yobbery: Biscuit sends Buddy a big (((HUG)))
tigerose: So glad that Buddy is feeling a bit better.
Mrs CDK: Glad to hear that cutie pie is doing good!

We spent the day today with the wonderful people who run St Louis Boxer Rescue. We had a lot of fun visiting with friends and several Boxers who are up for adoption. But the best part of the whole day was when we signed the adoption papers for Caesar.Caesar is no longer our foster dog. He is now our forever dog! Although there were struggles in the beginning,.(he has been in seven different homes in his lifetime and came with a lot of baggage) he has come so far and we are very proud of how much he has changed for the better. We love him and couldn't imagine life without himI'm sure the cats are thrilled....lol
yobbery: lilyspad: yobbery: [www.smugmug.com image 640x480]Hahah! You guys are all cracking me up!!! Love the radioactive rooster!! :DCredit goes to Maynerdkitty on that one :o)
You get credit for installing that rooster, I have no skills.
akimbotoo: spinach gunk: This dog's face makes me wish I had some caek in teh house.[spinachgunk.smugmug.com image 530x557]That is a hilarious look on his face! Then I looked closer and noticed that the plate is the same pattern I have! It took me a while to get past looking at those adorable eyes. How is you sweet Buddy this week? Any new pictures of the little cutie pie? :D

DoomsDayAardvark: Wednesday morning, I was awakened by a call from the emergency vet saying that Kay had taken a turn for the worse, and that I should come see him. He hung on just long enough for me to get there, and have about 10 minutes to say goodbye. I held his paw as he took his last breath and drifted away.
catmandu: OK folks, i need a bit of advice. I have been feeding my cats Purina Indoor formula for a couple of years (since the financial troubles started). Mandu has suddenly decided that he no longer likes it so he rarely eats but scratches the rug to cover the bowl. At first, I thought he was just in a mood, but it has been going on for a couple of weeks and he has actually lost weight, not enough to be dangerous since he was a little thicker than ideal, but enough to be noticeable. Mika has no problem with the food. I would like some recommendations for inexpensive food that is still reasonably good. I feed my cats dry kibble free-choice.[i283.photobucket.com image 720x960]
sherpa18: neurofunkin: And last but not least, my cat has discovered that the sound of the dryer buzzing means that there are warm clothes that he hasn't had the chance to get his fur all over yet. He can't believe I've been holding out on him all this time.REMOVE THE DRYER SHEET (FABRIC SOFTENER) THEY CAN BE POISONOUS.In fact, when the dryer cycle ends, the chemicals are active not only on the dryer sheet itself, but on the clothes.

I know I've mentioned how Juno will eat pretty much anything, but tonight she even surprised me. I set down my mostly eaten plate of Palak Paneer and she finished it off. I had eaten all the cheese so she ate only the spicy spinach. She is truly a very strange cat.

yobbery: Question: Does anyone else have bad luck with giving their cat Flagyl (Metronidazole)? Seems like every cat I've ever given it to becomes ill.
DoomsDayAardvark: I held his paw as he took his last breath and drifted away.
reigning.cats.and.dogs: yobbery: Question:Does anyone else have bad luck with giving their cat Flagyl (Metronidazole)? Seems like every cat I've ever given it to becomes ill.Nathan seemed much better until we started dosing him. He became (more) urpy and lethargic right after the first dose. We believe they just prescribed it as a precaution since he didn't show any signs of infection, so we decided not to give him the afternoon dose. Now he's up and about....enjoying some noms. He's still not quite 100%, but slowly getting there. I think we're just going to flush the remainder of the Flagyl.[www.smugmug.com image 337x450]I haven't had a great deal of experience with Flagyl, but my current foster beastie (will post pics later) was on it and seemed to tolerate it well enough, but then he was on Clavamox, Forti Flora & NutriCal at the same time for what I think the shelter vets thought of as a last ditch effort to treat a mystery infection and failure to thrive. He thrived. Boy, did he ever! I hope Nathan's tummy (and related parts) start feeling better soonest!
lilyspad: Hey SG! I tried to send you an email after thread close earlier this week, but it came back! Wrong address in profile? Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for posting that pic of Lily that you had captioned! What a surprise to see that Tuesday morning!! :D
Finally to temp threadsend.MizMescalita, Plumbicon's & my condolences to you too. Reckon Kay & all the others welcomed Leo to the Elysian Meadows where they all wait for us. tigerose: Whenever we have a sad, or series of same, remember that some animal crept into a life, formed a bond strong enough, that the loss creates a hole in life. And soul.. Believe it or not, this is a good thing. For it shows that you are capable of giving and receiving love, in it's most pure form. You understand discipline. And commitment. And..the healing power of one fuzzy body, greeting you. Snuggling with you when you are ill, or sad. Dancing with you across the floor when you are happy. And not eating you in your sleep for that..demanding. Loving. Companion. What a wonderful gift. Blessed Be.
gremlin1: lilyspad: My next door neighbor is mowing his lawn....it's 5 am here. Can't say as I blame him, 'cuz it's supposed to be 100 here again today, but I bet the other neighbors are not too happy right now! :DIt takes me 3 hours to mow my lawn ,so I tend to do it in sections. Last week when it was in the 90s and extremely humid I mowed half my back yard and took a break. I went out later and was finishing the other half when I noticed a riding lawnmower in my driveway. My neighbor was doing my front lawn for me. I was very grateful. As a thank you I cooked up a huge pot of Italian sausage in my homemade sauce and gave her half along with l some Italian bread.
sharbear: Yippity Skippity Happy Caturday all!OlderGuy I bet the house will look nice, have you found Trip yet?IceQueen I got the sad email, too. I'd like to donate some funds to help Kays owner offset the bill they have. Any suggestions on how to do that?DoomsDay ArdvarkYou have my deepest sympathies. My heart goes out to your family. Please let us know if we can help off-set the bill, it would be my pleasure in helping take a little of the pain away with the rainbow crossing. Much hugs. xoxtigeroseHave a safe trip!
