The osprey just a couple miles from home. Not sure if male or female and I'm not shimmying up the powerline pole to the nest to find out.

And Ellie.  I cannot get over just how photogenic she is.  This is today.

and this one is from February 16, 2008, the day I picked her up off the streets.  She weighed 4.2 pounds (she is 15 pounds now) and was recent mom but no babies.  She was feral and called me all sorts of dirty names when I grabbed her.  She is named Ellie after my mom....cause I swear she was channeling Mom with the nasty names and hissing and spitting (My Mom had Alzheimer's.  I set Ellie's birthday as the day mom passed away.  It fit)

sno man, FangQ for hummingbird & kitty pix.  Hummers avoiding our feeder this year, dunno why.  May not dump & refill often enough.
imgur may be about to overload again, tried to upload youthful pic of Cracker Jack who owns professional_vampire & spouse, while going around opening windows as humidity's Low Enuf. Crashed in flames!  or almost.  Go back & Edit some more & try again inabit.

Not too far from our country place, right by where the Trent-Severn waterway channel cut is, there is a run of 3 osprey nests on about 5 poles, I haven't stopped to take a picture yet, but there is often at least one visible there. And I don't blame you about the not climbing up thing, they are pretty big, and nasty.
The hummingbirds pics are about 10% set-up, 40% patience, and 50% luck.  I took a lot to get just a few good ones, and the shutter-speed setting is nearly irrelevant, I have a few @ 1/4000 with blurry wings (!)
Try some tea with lemon & honey, breathing in the steam... sometimes works.

sno man: Hi everyone, been away a bit and with packing and whatnot, totally missed last week and have been since I got home yesterday catching up (spotty at best cell service, and a VERY basic data plan kept me mostly off-line).  Another lot of sad this week, and to those whose cats have crossed the bridge in the last couple of weeks... It's hard right now to try to focus on the good memories and fun times, but try, over time that's what sticks with you.  And a few seem to need to find some better doctors...
maynerdkitty, I'm really enjoying the chicks updates!  I've half been thinking of getting a couple, my daughter had a week of riding camp earlier this Summer, and she was at least as interested in the chicks and hens as the horses(!)
I tried to find it from a few weeks ago but couldn't, and to the photographer, my apologies.  But I was very inspired by some hummingbird pictures a few weeks ago, and well the place we were staying at had a couple of hummingbird feeders, and after a little experimentation, was able to capture these ruby throated hummingbirds:

OlderGuy: uses it as primer.. his house will end up being Gray... again....

As a person who sells paint and such on a regular basis....paint doesn't do the same job as primer.  Primer had certain agents added to it to make it adhere better to the surface, which gives the topcoat (paint) a better base, and makes it last longer.  All that person is doing is creating a big surface of non-stick coating.

I took the foster kitten (BTW - the shelter officially changed his name from 'Hype' to 'Lil' Bit', since he's been here long enough to learn it and respond to it) into the shelter yesterday to have him weighed and do a health check to ensure he was healthy.  All good - I am returning him to be neutered on Thursday morning, so he should be out on the floor for adoption by the weekend.  The family who found him had expressed interest in possibly adopting him, but since they've not called, as far as I (and the shelter, for that matter) am concerned, he's available.  Weighed in at 3 pounds, 6.5 ounces, so he'd gained over a pound in two weeks - I think he's gonna be a big kitty when he's fully grown...  His favorite pastime is food, and he makes biscuits in the food bowl while he eats - so frickin' cute!
lh6.googleusercontent.comHe eats atop the microwave to keep the other kitties (except Theo, and there's no way to hide anything from him) out of his food, so I caught him washing up after.  Just after this, he tried hopping down, but because the pup was bouncing around under him, he got his little leg hung up, so I disentangled him, and put him on the cat tower.  Theo was not happy, and tried to knock him off, so Zara came to his rescue, ever the mama cat...
lh4.googleusercontent.com

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics - it's just far more convenient, plus it automatically uploads to Google+, and I can post pics from there very simply!

I think Thursday is gonna be a rough day....

lilyspad: So.......you didn't have a cat when you left????

We did, and five pretty fresh kittens (now five-ish weeks).  The opportunity to foster them and the trip came up at about the same time, fortunately we have some friends that Dad is allergic, Mom is a cat (starved) person and the girls love anything cute and furry. Before we said okay to the trip we had 3 very willing and able cat sitters that spent a good chunk of the week before we were away getting to know momma and her kittens, and pretty much camped out at our house to play with the kittens, while we were gone. (and the fun stuff too, fresh food and water regularly, and litter duty.)

Meanwhile, since a considerable portion of Caturday participants seem to qualify for "get off my lawn" privileges (myself included), and I don't know how many of you venture out to the main page, I thought I would bring your attention to this photographic record of life in America in the early '70's (currently posted on the FarkUs tab). Having grown up in NYC during that period, I found it mesmerizing. Even if you did not live in one of the locations highlighted, it is a real trip down memory lane. (Cigarettes $3.99/carton, beer $1.15/six pack, cars that were not made of plastic, to say nothing of the clothes - WTF were we thinking?)

Thanks all for welcoming Caesar into his forever home! And a huge thank you to my TF donor. You are too awesome!

I also has a sads today. My friend who has been fighting brain cancer for the past 26 months lost his fight today. When he was diagnosed with inoperable Grade III Anaplastic Astrocytoma in May of 2011, they were hoping to have 18 months with him. He fought his battle hard with weekly chemo and radiation and was able to enjoy his family and celebrate his life for 26 months. He even hung on to see his new grandbaby, born a month ago. He stopped his treatments about 2 1/2 months ago and 2 weeks ago, he started to go downhill very fast. He lost his battle today. He was a super hero who bravely fought his battle as hard as he could.

For everyone fighting cancer, for everyone who has lost a loved one to cancer, but especially for my friend Chad and his family today, I say FU Cancer!! You Suck!
