Gots to share a happie! We go to the local Winking Lizard every Thursday..its burger night...anyway, our waitperson..C...is going to adopt a cat she had been fostering..she also works for the APL..this kitteh had front legs that are too short to walk with, so she hops like a bunny..over big baby gates!!

and she is a bit of a bully. C says she beats the dogs up ewth her front paws, which evidently are quite good for grabbing..I suspected she would not be able to let this one go?so, I haz a happie.

Here's to you C..you totally rock!

Last week, the Mrs. had a nasty back spasm just as she was sitting down at her desk. Glass of water went sideways. Result: In true Fark comedy tradition, I had to order her a new monitor and keyboard. Secondary result: I was without monitor until Tuesday night. Tertiary result: I still have five pages to catch up from last Caturday!

...just got out of the hospital this afternoon. When I woke up yesterday morning was vomiting and had uncontrollable dia..diah..diar...squirts. Formal diagnosis was Impaction along with "Dietary Indiscretion." I think he may have gotten into some chicken grease. It was pretty scary, but they got things moving and he's doing well now. He's upstairs passed out on the couch. They said he was pretty stressed being there and I suspect he hasn't slept since yesterday morning.

I don't have very many "new" pics to post this week. Had no power on Tuesday. The electricians showed up (surprise!) to replace both breaker boxes and the main power supply outside. Finally got power back on up here a little after 3. It was 100 on Tuesday. Needless to say, I was a little "moist". Yesterday my internet was down (again) when I got home. I finally called my friend who came and fixed it for me. So....not much time to search for fresh stuff. Please forgive me ahead of time for posting some used stuff this week......

/sorry for the long post.

So here is my sad, sucky Caturday

My uncle apparently has cancer and it pretty much shows up in his stomach, lungs, liver, and esophagus. Had some biopsies done so they could a) have definte Dx of cancer and b) see if they can figure out the origin tumor and type to know how to treat. Well, surgeon's office apparently said that the biopsies were negative. His MD didn't think it sounded right so was able to track down the actual path report. Um, yeah, weren't negative, the surgeon got crappy samples and the path lab had nothing to work with. Think there is a definite difference between negative and poor sample to test. So he has to go through that portion all over again. Nice huh :(

Whenever we have a sad, or series of same, remember that some animal crept into a life, formed a bond strong enough, that the loss creates a hole in life. And soul.

. Believe it or not, this is a good thing. For it shows that you are capable of giving and receiving love, in it's most pure form. You understand discipline. And commitment. And..the healing power of one fuzzy body, greeting you. Snuggling with you when you are ill, or sad. Dancing with you across the foor when you are happy. And not eating you in your sleep for that..demanding. Loving. Companion. What a wonderful gift. Blessed Be.

Ok, now on a happier note, Andi went back to the vet's yesterday. She has finally, FINALLY, broken the 2# mark. She's still under weight but catching up. She gained over 1# just in 3 weeks. They said she could take a long time to get to where she needs to be, if she gets there at all, but its progress. They were playing with her fat little belly and she kept running off of the exam table to the adjacent counter to try and get the treats. I think I should have named her black hole.

akimbotoo: The Ice Queen: akimbotoo: The Ice Queen: So here is my sad, sucky Caturday

Nice huh :(

I am so sorry sweetie!  This does totally suck.  (((((((HUGS)))))))  Major hugs to you and your family.

Yeah, I would definitely take last Caturday with my bum wrist, at least I could blame that on my grace and coordination.

Then again, this has been a weird week. Weird week at work, weird week at home, definitely tell its bee a full moon....

Yeah!  A good friend of mine just found out that her lovely mother probably has a recurrence of lung cancer.  Her mother's dip-sh*t of a doctor has been giving her different antibiotics for her cough.  Ummm, how about a chest x-ray because of her past history?

Ugh, you would think if she sneezed they would want to do an Xray. I still have to get yearly scans and labs and I've been cancer free for over 13 years now!

The Ice Queen: Ok, now on a happier note, Andi went back to the vet's yesterday. I think I should have named her

Probably saying "FEED ME"

yobbery: This one......just got out of the hospital this afternoon.

Ack! Glad he's doing better! Good reminder that despite their reputation as "picky eaters", some cats are garbage disposals.

I wonder if maybe his gut was in such a spasm that it wasn't really and impaction but more of a "paralysis". Like it just got to the point it was spasming so much to get whatever it was out that it just tired itself out or froze itself up.

Hasn't been a good year at the yobbery home for tummies?

Does he have to go on a special diet or something for now?

I know there's lots of sad this Caturday (and my heart is so broken for one in particular), so let me share my happy, in the hopes of putting smiles on some faces.

I am part of an online group known as Imagine Home, which allows kitties in one state to be adopted by someone far away.  This weekend I will pick up a very pretty kitty named Jade in my part of Ohio (she's coming from Staten Island), and drive her to Elyria, about an hour and a half away, where she will continue with someone else on her journey to her new home in Rock Island, IL.

It's my first transport, I am so excited to be part of such an awesome event.  You know you're a crazy cat person when your idea of a fun Saturday night is helping to get a kitty you don't know to his new home, with no compensation other than the happiness of the new owner.  Can't wait!

If it is a Coonie, Mika is only 11 lb. and is 6 years old so not all get big (her mother was 9 lb and daddy was 20)

That's pretty cool! I'm a member of the Underground Kitty Railroad and they do something similar. I haven't done any transports though, they've only had one in my area but I already had a commitment that weekend and couldn't sign up.

Its cool helping kitties get to their furrever homes :)

As many of you are already aware, I have some very sad news to relate this week, but I'll relate the story for everyone.

Tuesday evening, my sweet little Kay began to yowl in pain, and then vomit.  He did this twice before he decided to go to his hidey-spot under the basement steps.  After a little while, he came out, looking like he didn't feel very good.  I was lying on the basement floor with him for a little while, when he yowled and vomited again.  At that point, I decided it was time to take him to the vet, but since it was after 10, his regular vet was closed.  Fortunately, I live quite close to a 24-hour emergency vet clinic.  He was admitted almost instantly.

They did some x-rays, and some other tests, and couldn't find anything definitive.  They gave him some anti-nausea medication, but it did nothing for him, so they decided they should keep him overnight for pain medication and observation.  I got home around 2 in the morning without him.  I snapped this pic as I said good night to him.

/side note...This woman is a  saint

Wednesday morning, I was awakened by a call from the emergency vet saying that Kay had taken a turn for the worse, and that I should come see him.  He hung on just long enough for me to get there, and have about 10 minutes to say goodbye.  I held his paw as he took his last breath and drifted away.

i445.photobucket.com

I spent much of the rest of the day sobbing.

For a long time, I've used writing as a coping technique.  I prepared this obituary for Kay to help myself through it.  (Don't everybody click that link at once -- my host probably can't take a farking).  It helped, but it still hurts.

Many of you have already written kind words on Facebook and in emails.  I cannot thank you all enough for the love and support you've shown me in the last few days.  There are so many of you that to try to list you all individually is doomed to failure -- the list of who hasn't expressed sympathy would be shorter, and I suspect due more to communication problems than sentiment.  You are all amazing people, and I thank you from the bottom of my broken heart for your kindness.

I will, however, single out  laulaja who tirelessly forwarded both my messages and all of yours back to me, and then surprised me with more totalfark than I can shake a stick at.  Thank you so much.  I'm humbled.

The Ice Queen: So here is my sad, sucky Caturday

Nice huh :(

Oh my God, that's awful.  Sounds like somebody needs to go to work with a clue-by-four over there.

We go to the local Winking Lizard every Thursday..its burger night...anyway, our waitperson..C...is going to adopt a cat she had been fostering..she also works for the APL..this kitteh had front legs that are too short to walk with, so she hops like a bunny..over big baby gates!!and she is a bit of a bully. C says she beats the dogs up ewth her front paws, which evidently are quite good for grabbing..I suspected she would not be able to let this one go?so, I haz a happie.

Here's to you C..you totally rock!

I love happie news! Yay, C! 😸

OlderGuy: vudutek: Last week, the Mrs. had a nasty back spasm just as she was sitting down at her desk. Glass of water went sideways. Result: In true Fark comedy tradition, I had to order her a new monitor and keyboard. Secondary result: I was without monitor until Tuesday night. Tertiary result: I still have five pages to catch up from last Caturday!

If you spill liquid on items, pull the plug quickly.. no power, no damage..   let 'em dry good.. may be ok.... if you let the smoke escape, pretty much done.. can't put it back.....

i know the drill, i was just too late getting to the room to make a save. Even the hair dryer trick was to no avail....

Savarose: I know there's lots of sad this Caturday (and my heart is so broken for one in particular), so let me share my happy, in the hopes of putting smiles on some faces.

Can't wait!

Wild...I used to live up there.  Good luck with your transport.

The Ice Queen: I never realized Kay was a Cozy Cat Kitty (that's the shelter I volunteer and foster for).

The obit was very beautiful.....

Thank you.

If you were there in 2008, you may even have met him.  It is a remarkably small world.

Much as I'd like to stay up and visit with everyone for another hour or 2, I have to work 1st tomorrow, 7a to 3p, so i'm off to bed. Good news is I will be back here tomorrow at 4pm instead of 8pm!

DoomsDayAardvark: As many of you are already aware, I have some very sad news to relate this week, but I'll relate the story for everyone.

[i445.photobucket.com image 480x640]
/side note...This woman is a  saint

Wednesday morning, I was awakened by a call from the emergency vet saying that Kay had taken a turn for the worse, and that I should come see him.  He hung on just long enough for me to get there, and have about 10 minutes to say goodbye.  I held his paw as he took his last breath and drifted away.

[i445.photobucket.com image 640x480]

I spent much of the rest of the day sobbing.

For a long time, I've used writing as a coping technique.  I prepared this obituary for Kay to help myself through it.  (Don't everybody click that link at once -- my host probably can't take a farking).  It helped, but it still hurts.

Many of you have already written kind words on Facebook and in emails.  I cannot thank you all enough for the love and support you've shown me in the last few days.  There are so many of you that to try to list you all individually is doomed to failure -- the list of who hasn't expresse ...

I'm so sorry DDA. It was obvious from the photos you've posted that Kay was a special kitty. I was always happy to see him in the thread, just loved that white triangle nose. He knew he was loved and you gave him a great life.

The funniest thing happened to us last night, hubby was fiddling in the garage and he noticed a strange man picking flowers from my patio, so he trotted over and said, hey those are my wifes flowers, you shouldn't do that!  His response was "But they are so pretty".  Well, John was all riled up about it and I said show me which guy it was, and I'll give him his own pot of flowers.  Kill them with kindness. I was wondering why my flowers looked so....dismal lately. ha ha ha ha.

Actually, if you want to make a financial gesture (and this goes for anybody in here who may feel this way), don't send money to me.  While Kay's final expenses are a hit, I'm glad to cover them myself as my duty as his "daddy."  It's tight, but I can do this.  Instead, see the donation links in my profile.  In less than a month, I'll be doing a pair of Kayak for a Cure events, raising money for the American Cancer Society, and Nationwide Children's Hospital's Pediatric Cancer Center in Columbus Ohio.  I'll personally feel much better having that money donated to a good cause, benefiting many people than having it buy me a bottle of scotch to toast a fallen friend.  I like to think it's what he'd have wanted if he'd understood what money was about.

DoomsDayAardvark: my sweet little Kay

This was so heartbreaking to hear about.  My deepest sympathies to you.  Kay was such a beautiful cat, and by the sounds of it, the best friend a guy could have.  I loved your stories about his little escapades.  I will miss seeing his expressive little fuzzy face and those adorable little white tube socks.  He was a great cat.  Caturday will miss him so much.  I know I already do.  :,(

Sending you great big hugs.  Take care of yourself during this tough time.  We are here for you.

Rest in peace, gallant Sir Kay.

Good Morning fine folk!!
I have a long post, sorry...
First of all, DoomsDayAardvark, the micromedic household wishes to extend their deepest sorrow at the loss of Kay. We send hugs of comfort, share your sorrow and there are gentle purrs and head bumps on their way to you! Kay is already missed.

hokay... now for the long post. Kitty kitty, our "house panther" bull rushed the back door about 2-3 months ago and was missing. I was sure he was close, but as time went by, my hope dimmed. I missed my kitty! On Wednesday night. after dark, mr. micromedic came into the house and insisted I go outside!! It was Kitty Kitty!!! He came back!! After some food, coaxing (a lot of coaxing) he came in to the house!! I am EXSTATIC!!! I just couldn't be mad.... I just wanted him back. Thank Bast!! (and all others, you choose!!) He is reaquainted with all and I'm a happy medic!

That's pretty cool! I'm a member of the Underground Kitty Railroad and they do something similar. I haven't done any transports though, they've only had one in my area but I already had a commitment that weekend and couldn't sign up.

Its cool helping kitties get to their furrever homes :)

I'm a member of that one, too!  But seems they have a lot of volunteers in my area, any that come through here are filled before I can volunteer!

DDA, I want to again express my condolences on your loss of Kay.  Such a beautiful boy, taken much too soon.  I had no idea you were in the great state of Ohio-seems to be a lot of Buckeye Caturdayers.

Will try to post a pic of the kitty I am transporting once I return home, though recently I have the derp when it comes to posting pictures here.  Not sure if it's Fark, Photobucket, or me that's the problem (ok, it's probably me!)

Ice Queen, I am so sorry to hear about your uncle. It's hard enough dealing with medical uncertainty of any sort and is scary just all on its own, but add in what appears to be a lack of competence leading to misdiagnosis or a delay in treatment and you've just gone from scary and worrisome to pants-crappingly terrifying. I am so sorry he's having to go through this. I'm so sorry for your entire family. Give everyone a hug from me and ask for one in return.

DoomsDayAardvark, words cannot even express how I felt reading that. I am so, so sorry for your loss. When my Mr Marmalade died, he was over 20 years old, but my son was only a couple years older. We form deep bonds with our animal companions and my son's bond with that cat was much like how your bond with Kay sounds. Best friend, confidante, cuddle buddy. My entire family was devastated by that loss, but especially my son. I think your obituary was a beautiful, loving tribute to a best friend who was there for you in your time of need, just as you were there for him during his. It sounds cliche, but it does help - remember the good times and hold them close to your heart. When you do that, he's never really gone, but instead lives on in your heart where he knew he truly belonged and took up his rightful spot long ago.

Lsherm, it's not callous at all. My Grandmother died last week after us caring for her for many years, the last few being especially hard. She died with me holding her hand, mere moments after I told her I loved her. It hurt so badly, because my Grandma was my best friend and the only family member I've ever been very close to at all. When I told my Caturday family, I specifically asked them to not be bummed about it. Caturday is one of those places where we all can come and share our joy and our sorrow and know we have the biggest hearts and sweetest souls on the net there to lend us emotional support if need be. The giggling and silliness and cute little fuzzy heads helps just as much as any words of comfort. We should not dwell in our grief, but rather acknowledge it and move on. Caturday and the pics and the stories is one way of doing that, and it helps more than some will ever know. Don't be afraid to post pics after bad news. The worst things get, the more you need that giggle or that sweet little furbaby, so post away!

Now that my daily quasi-essay is done, I'll spare you all the blow by blow of my Super Secret Lair of Infinite Doom™ reorganization project and just throw out "beat THIS 'stache, Hamilton!"

I was just sitting here at my computer, and I hear water gushing! Look out the window, and there is a geiser shooting up past my window (I live on the 2nd floor) !! Ran down and turned off the sprinklers. One of the little buggers had busted. So, now I get to fix that! Not bad, just a little screw on sprinkler. Crap! It's always something...

Good Meowning! I have been up for a while, enjoying reading what I missed last night. And I got the dishwasher emptied, a load of laundry going...magic pajamas...as in, I get more housework done while still in my pjs than once I am properly attired! :)

Once again sending ((hugs)) to all those in need. I know DDA will continue to need them.

Eli just missed getting skunked by a hair this morning! I heard him yowl to come in, and as I was letting him inside there was a sudden stench...so glad I am not wrestling him into the tub this morning!

It takes me 3 hours to mow my lawn ,so I tend to do it in sections. Last week when it was in the 90s and extremely humid I mowed half my back yard and took a break. I went out later and was finishing the other half when I noticed a riding lawnmower in my driveway. My neighbor was doing my front lawn for me. I was very grateful. As a thank you I cooked up a huge pot of Italian sausage in my homemade sauce and gave her half along with l some Italian bread.

That was a very Nice Time all around! We had Italian inspired fuds last night. I did sausage a peppers on hoagie rolls (which I had garlic toastified first) with provolone, topped with a bit of marinara and then finished with shaved parm. I made baked zucchini chips to go on the side. My mom isn't fond of Italian food, so if I want Italian inspired stuff, i gotta do it while she's gone.

DoomsDayAardvark: As many of you are already aware, I have some very sad news to relate this week, but I'll relate the story for everyone.

That was a beautiful tribute to a beautiful friend.  One of the first furry faces I recognized when I started lurking here, and I always looked forward to your stories of his antics and the pics of Kay, his blue blankie and his white socks - he will be missed by many.  Thank you for sharing this with us, and I am so terribly sorry for your loss.

micromedic: Good Morning fine folk!!

(and all others, you choose!!) He is reaquainted with all and I'm a happy medic!

tigerose: Whenever we have a sad, or series of same, remember that some animal crept into a life, formed a bond strong enough, that the loss creates a hole in life. And soul.. Believe it or not, this is a good thing. For it shows that you are capable of giving and receiving love, in it's most pure form. You understand discipline. And commitment. And..the healing power of one fuzzy body, greeting you. Snuggling with you when you are ill, or sad. Dancing with you across the floor when you are happy. And not eating you in your sleep for that..demanding. Loving. Companion. What a wonderful gift. Blessed Be.

That is so positive. I think I have to figure out some way to save it so I see it often. Thank you.

Good morning all, so very sad about Sir Kay. He was a beautiful kitty, much loved and he knew it. He will be missed.
When I need a little bit of happy I go out and look at the biddies, they grow so fast, only a week old and they are getting feathers and learning to fly. I built them a tiny "training roost". It only takes one adventures bird to get up there and the rest try to follow. When I watch them I hear someone in my head singing about spreading tiny wings and flying away.
Here is the link to enjoy with your breakfast and coffee.

Yeah, I was noticing that, too.  Seems  The Ice Queen even works at the shelter where I adopted Kay.

On another note, I'll be at the state fair this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon up to my thighs in the kayak pond helping kids (and probably a few adults) learn how to kayak.

We have a kayak up north. The whole family loves it! I keep thinking we need another one. Used would be great. I want one that is a bit smaller..for me. Easier to launch? We store the kayak on saw horses, down by the water, and the paddle upstairs..

Furrgot to conga-catulate  the micromedics for Kitty Kitty's safe return.
Also furrgot to conga-catulate Savarose for work with Imagine Home.  Sounds so  excellent!
DoomsDay, so good on you to go to St Fair to help folk learn to kayak.  We've still a canoe, the one Pl's late dad built in Previous Century with plans in Popular Mechanix  methinx. Parents canoed on created reservoir near Washington IN (by  Vincennes) when they were able, gave it to us when no longer able. Also had inflatable canoe we bought in WBerlin & used on the Wannsee, plus various locations back here until it sprung a leak.
Also no fear a-tall re sponsorings from moi  for Kayak4Cure for both of you.  It's 501c3 so I/we will.
Having Luck with Editing! Once paste up local hamrag to print, & print! will scan Lil Bub article (tabloid cover & 2 pgs) to fetch. WallOfText therein!  Will need be in installments.

The Ice Queen: Does he have to go on a special diet or something for now?

No, he doesn't need a special diet at this point. Right now they view it as just one of those things that hopefully won't happen again.

tigerose: sherpa18: yobbery: This one......just got out of the hospital this afternoon.

Ack! Glad he's doing better! Good reminder that despite their reputation as "picky eaters", some cats are garbage disposals.

The Ice Queen: So here is my sad, sucky Caturday

Nice huh :(

Sorry to hear about your uncle. You would think the surgeon would pay a little more attention. Multiple lesion sites and all..Geez!

I haven't done a lot of experimenting with different boats, but for a fairly light-weight kayak (it's just under 40 pounds) I can wholeheartedly recommend the model my girlfriend uses.  It's an Emotion Bliss sit-inside (she also has good things to say about the Glide, which is somewhat cheaper, and you can get at Cabela's).  It was designed with smaller-framed paddlers (so women and children mostly) in mind.  It's fairly long and skinny for its weight (almost 11 feet) and handles pretty well, and if you put some muscle into it, it'll really move.  It wouldn't be a good choice for rapids, high waves, or rough water, but on calm-ish lakes and rivers it's a good boat.  As long as you're not too heavy.  The weight limit on it is only about 180 pounds, and it starts getting a little wobbly with more than about 150 in it.  Not too bad, but you've gotta have your hula hips ready.  Makes for a good core workout, if you catch my drift.  It's plastic, so it's best if you can store it out of the sun.  That said, lots of outdoor shops will have kayak days in the spring where you can go and try a bunch of different boats that they carry.  If you're looking, I'd recommend going to one and have a bunch of fun in a lot of different boats.  Also, they'll probably have some knowledgeable staff there who can help you find the boat that's right for you.  You should definitely try anything you're going to spend money on.  New boats aren't super cheap.  I've honestly never looked for a used one.

Sad to hear the lost kitty news.

2013-07-26 01:34:13 PM

Unfortunately, BigHairyGuy and Ialso have a sad in our household this week.  Leonardo has been losing weight and just recently was diagnosed with IBS and lymphoma in his small intestines.  We worked with the Vet to get him better with steroids, appetite stimulants and anti nausea meds, and things were looking ok.  But Tuesday, after he got his daily pills (the sweetie was SO good about taking his pills), he started acting extremely weird.  By Tuesday night, I was so worried I called the Vet too see what was going on.  She mentioned side effects of the appetite stimulants, and checking the internet we found his symptoms were spot on for Serotonin Syndrome, so we were all set up to take him in Wednesday morning. When we got there, the Vet took a look at him and said he was very dehydrated, and might need some electrolytes, and he wanted to do some blood work and kept him for the day to see how he did after that course of action.

Well with a VERY high white blood cell count, and abnormal liver numbers, the Vet did x-rays and an ultrasound, and our poor baby's liver was in very bad shape.  About all we could do was to keep him medicated and try to make him comfortable.  We didn't feel right letting him suffer just to keep him with us, so Leo crossed the Rainbow Bridge Wednesday evening.

Leo was a rescue kitty, and became my Master in March of 2004.  BigHairyGuy joined us in 10/2009.
Sweet, sassy, cuddly and silly; he leaves a big hole in our lives and in our hearts.

MizMezcalita so sorry to hear of your loss. It takes a great deal of courage to let one of our furry-friends go. I am sure that Leo is resting comfortable over the Bridge now.

MizMezcalita: Unfortunately, BigHairyGuy and Ialso have a sad in our household this week.

I am so very sorry for your loss of Leo.  He was so very lucky to have both of you love him so much that you wouldn't let him suffer.  (((((((hugs)))))))

I'm so sorry. That is and always will be one of the most painful decisions we have to make as pet slaves. You did the right thing.

I tried to get some close...closer...closerest (?) pics of Jazz. When she saw the flash...she gave me *the look*, and I could almost hear her southern voice say, "Oh, Hay'll, no!".
