Eli is sleeping in the window ledge here in the office. In a puddle of sun of course. He has been twitching, so I know he is chasing critters in his dreams...he has been very lovey lately. n fact he went to sit with my son the other day, climbing up onto his chest. And purring like crazy.

And yes, he still bites. Crazy kitteh! but I lurves him...

gremlin1: lilyspad: My next door neighbor is mowing his lawn....it's 5 am here. Can't say as I blame him, 'cuz it's supposed to be 100 here again today, but I bet the other neighbors are not too happy right now! :D

It takes me 3 hours to mow my lawn ,so I tend to do it in sections. Last week when it was in the 90s and extremely humid I mowed half my back yard and took a break. I went out later and was finishing the other half when I noticed a riding lawnmower in my driveway. My neighbor was doing my front lawn for me. I was very grateful. As a thank you I cooked up a huge pot of Italian sausage in my homemade sauce and gave her half along with l some Italian bread.

Similar story here back in February. After 3' of snow fell from late Friday night til mid-afternoon Saturday, I awoke Sunday AM to the sound of my neighbor across the street working my driveway with a snowblower and his kids tidying up with shovels. Gave him a $20 gas card and his kids Micky D's GCs.

Good neighbors are keepers.

MizMezcalita: Unfortunately, BigHairyGuy and Ialso have a sad in our household this week.  Leonardo has been losing weight and just recently was diagnosed with IBS and lymphoma in his small intestines.  We worked with the Vet to get him better with steroids, appetite stimulants and anti nausea meds, and things were looking ok.  But Tuesday, after he got his daily pills (the sweetie was SO good about taking his pills), he started acting extremely weird.  By Tuesday night, I was so worried I called the Vet too see what was going on.  She mentioned side effects of the appetite stimulants, and checking the internet we found his symptoms were spot on for Serotonin Syndrome, so we were all set up to take him in Wednesday morning. When we got there, the Vet took a look at him and said he was very dehydrated, and might need some electrolytes, and he wanted to do some blood work and kept him for the day to see how he did after that course of action.

Well with a VERY high white blood cell count, and abnormal liver numbers, the Vet did x-rays and an ultrasound, and our poor baby's liver was in very bad shape.  About all we could do was to keep him medicated and try to make him comfortable.  We didn't feel right letting him suffer just to keep him with us, so Leo crossed the Rainbow Bridge Wednesday evening.

Leo was a rescue kitty, and became my Master in March of 2004.  BigHairyGuy joined us in 10/2009.
Sweet, sassy, cuddly and silly; he leaves a big hole in our lives and in our hearts.

Aww.  :(  So sorry.
Rest in peace, sweet Leo.

lilyspad: Hey SG!  I tried to send you an email after thread close earlier this week, but it came back!  Wrong address in profile?  Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for posting that pic of Lily that you had captioned!  What a surprise to see that Tuesday morning!!  :D

Sorry about the email thing -- Yahoo mail has been doing very stupid things to me lately.  Dunno whether it's Outlook's fault or Yahoo's fault, but I got so fed up I removed my Yahoo profile from my Outlook and now get all my Yahoo stuff forwarded to my Gmail, which Outlook has no problem with.

Try sending something else to "tiny" (underscore) "doggie" (at) "yahoo" (dot) "ca" (note that it's .ca, not .com), and if it still bounces back at you, please let me know, and I'll furnish you directly with my Gmail address.

It is a pleasure captioning Lady Lily.  She is so lovable.  And hilarious.  I love all your pics of her.  :)

Sorry I haven't been doing as much captioning as I used to -- been so farking depressed lately it's not easy to be funny.  It is good medicine to laugh though, so I thank you and everyone else for providing big huge doses of that each Caturday.  I know you don't know me, but all the lols and cute cats really help cheer me up, and I am most grateful to all of you for all your wonderful weekly contributions and friendly good will.  You are good folk.

DoomsDayAardvark: tigerose: DoomsDayAardvark: Savarose: seems to be a lot of Buckeye Caturdayers.

Yeah, I was noticing that, too.  Seems  The Ice Queen even works at the shelter where I adopted Kay.

On another note, I'll be at the state fair this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon up to my thighs in the kayak pond helping kids (and probably a few adults) learn how to kayak.

We have a kayak up north. The whole family loves it! I keep thinking we need another one. Used would be great. I want one that is a bit smaller..for me. Easier to launch? We store the kayak on saw horses, down by the water, and the paddle upstairs..

I haven't done a lot of experimenting with different boats, but for a fairly light-weight kayak (it's just under 40 pounds) I can wholeheartedly recommend the model my girlfriend uses.  It's an Emotion Bliss sit-inside (she also has good things to say about the Glide, which is somewhat cheaper, and you can get at Cabela's).  It was designed with smaller-framed paddlers (so women and children mostly) in mind.  It's fairly long and skinny for its weight (almost 11 feet) and handles pretty well, and if you put some muscle into it, it'll really move.  It wouldn't be a good choice for rapids, high waves, or rough water, but on calm-ish lakes and rivers it's a good boat.  As long as you're not too heavy.  The weight limit on it is only about 180 pounds, and it starts getting a little wobbly with more than about 150 in it.  Not too bad, but you've gotta have your hula hips ready.  Makes for a good core workout, if you catch my drift.  It's plastic, so it's best if you can store it out of the sun.  That said, lots of outdoor shops will have kayak days in the spring where you can go and try a bunch of different boats that they carry.  If you're looking, I'd recommend going to one and have a bunch of fun in a lot of different boats.  Also, they'll probably have some knowledgeable staff there who can help you find the boat that's right for you.  You should definitely try anythin ...

I always say I need to get a kayak or something and use that to get to work (live and work right along the Olentangy). Figured it would be quicker than trying to drive up and down 23 some days!

Question:
Does anyone else have bad luck with giving their cat Flagyl (Metronidazole)? Seems like every cat I've ever given it to becomes ill.

Nathan seemed much better until we started dosing him. He became (more) urpy and lethargic right after the first dose. We believe they just prescribed it as a precaution since he didn't show any signs of infection, so we decided not to give him the afternoon dose. Now he's up and about....enjoying some noms. He's still not quite 100%, but slowly getting there. I think we're just going to flush the remainder of the Flagyl.

Hell, I've had to take Flagyl (I had C. DIff.) and made *me* ill. The inside of my mouth and my tongue
felt like they were on fire and made me urpy and lethargic.

Unfortunately, the effects from C. Diff. were worse than those of Flagyl, so the choice was spretty much
made for me.

C. Diff. will kill you to death and make you squirt out most of your insides in a spectacular fashion
before it makes you die. That's some bad shiat. (both literally and figuratively)

I haven't had a great deal of experience with Flagyl, but my current foster beastie (will post pics later) was on it and seemed to tolerate it well enough, but then he was on Clavamox, Forti Flora & NutriCal at the same time for what I think the shelter vets thought of as a last ditch effort to treat a mystery infection and failure to thrive.  He thrived.  Boy, did he ever!  I hope Nathan's tummy (and related parts) start feeling better soonest!

When Abby was a baby she had some number of intestinal buggies that gave her the runs and she was also sensitive to the food I was giving her and that was the second medication they gave her.  She did seem to still have more accidents (of course on our bed in the middle of the night) but it seemed to do the trick.  She ended up have two courses of that  after 2 or 3 courses of the other medication (which I can't remember the name of) and she hasn't had a problem since.

Clavamox is another one that's pretty potent. We've used that before with mixed results.

Nathan just enjoyed a thorough brushing, had a big drink of water and has retired to the master bedroom. He's been sleeping on the couch and it's great to see him heading for the bed again. I think the stress of it all has him down more than any pain or illness. They said he cowered in the back of the cage most of the time.

Biscuit (the spoiled brat) is not happy with all the attention Nate is getting.
