sherpa18: yobbery: This one......just got out of the hospital this afternoon. When I woke up yesterday morning was vomiting and had uncontrollable dia..diah..diar...squirts. Formal diagnosis was Impaction along with "Dietary Indiscretion." I think he may have gotten into some chicken grease. It was pretty scary, but they got things moving and he's doing well now. He's upstairs passed out on the couch. They said he was pretty stressed being there and I suspect he hasn't slept since yesterday morning.

Ack! Glad he's doing better! Good reminder that despite their reputation as "picky eaters", some cats are garbage disposals.

I wonder if maybe his gut was in such a spasm that it wasn't really and impaction but more of a "paralysis". Like it just got to the point it was spasming so much to get whatever it was out that it just tired itself out or froze itself up.

Hasn't been a good year at the yobbery home for tummies?

Does he have to go on a special diet or something for now?

I know there's lots of sad this Caturday (and my heart is so broken for one in particular), so let me share my happy, in the hopes of putting smiles on some faces.

I am part of an online group known as Imagine Home, which allows kitties in one state to be adopted by someone far away.  This weekend I will pick up a very pretty kitty named Jade in my part of Ohio (she's coming from Staten Island), and drive her to Elyria, about an hour and a half away, where she will continue with someone else on her journey to her new home in Rock Island, IL.

It's my first transport, I am so excited to be part of such an awesome event.  You know you're a crazy cat person when your idea of a fun Saturday night is helping to get a kitty you don't know to his new home, with no compensation other than the happiness of the new owner.  Can't wait!

The Ice Queen: tigerose: The Ice Queen: Ok, now on a happier note, Andi went back to the vet's yesterday. She has finally, FINALLY, broken the 2# mark. She's still under weight but catching up. She gained over 1# just in 3 weeks. They said she could take a long time to get to where she needs to be, if she gets there at all, but its progress. They were playing with her fat little belly and she kept running off of the exam table to the adjacent counter to try and get the treats. I think I should have named her

Probably saying "FEED ME"
[i1210.photobucket.com image 850x637]

Looks like Maine Coon to me. They can take up to 2 yrs to be fully mature. And they can get into the 20+ lb range...biiiig kittehs!

Oops, meant to finish the last sentence as named her the black hole. She's like a bottomless food pit

Oh I hope not a Maine Coon, I already have 2 of them. One is full adult and finished growing at 15#, the other is still under a year and is at least that much. I don't think I could handle 3 of them!

If it is a Coonie, Mika is only 11 lb. and is 6 years old so not all get big (her mother was 9 lb and daddy was 20)

I missed the blurb above the pic and until I got to the 'he' I thought you were talking about yourself.  I was thinking this was TMI, but since it's about Nathan, sharing the details is fine.

That's pretty cool! I'm a member of the Underground Kitty Railroad and they do something similar. I haven't done any transports though, they've only had one in my area but I already had a commitment that weekend and couldn't sign up.

Its cool helping kitties get to their furrever homes :)

As many of you are already aware, I have some very sad news to relate this week, but I'll relate the story for everyone.

Tuesday evening, my sweet little Kay began to yowl in pain, and then vomit.  He did this twice before he decided to go to his hidey-spot under the basement steps.  After a little while, he came out, looking like he didn't feel very good.  I was lying on the basement floor with him for a little while, when he yowled and vomited again.  At that point, I decided it was time to take him to the vet, but since it was after 10, his regular vet was closed.  Fortunately, I live quite close to a 24-hour emergency vet clinic.  He was admitted almost instantly.

They did some x-rays, and some other tests, and couldn't find anything definitive.  They gave him some anti-nausea medication, but it did nothing for him, so they decided they should keep him overnight for pain medication and observation.  I got home around 2 in the morning without him.  I snapped this pic as I said good night to him.

/side note...This woman is a  saint

Wednesday morning, I was awakened by a call from the emergency vet saying that Kay had taken a turn for the worse, and that I should come see him.  He hung on just long enough for me to get there, and have about 10 minutes to say goodbye.  I held his paw as he took his last breath and drifted away.

i445.photobucket.com

I spent much of the rest of the day sobbing.

For a long time, I've used writing as a coping technique.  I prepared this obituary for Kay to help myself through it.  (Don't everybody click that link at once -- my host probably can't take a farking).  It helped, but it still hurts.

Many of you have already written kind words on Facebook and in emails.  I cannot thank you all enough for the love and support you've shown me in the last few days.  There are so many of you that to try to list you all individually is doomed to failure -- the list of who hasn't expressed sympathy would be shorter, and I suspect due more to communication problems than sentiment.  You are all amazing people, and I thank you from the bottom of my broken heart for your kindness.

I will, however, single out  laulaja who tirelessly forwarded both my messages and all of yours back to me, and then surprised me with more totalfark than I can shake a stick at.  Thank you so much.  I'm humbled.

The Ice Queen: So here is my sad, sucky Caturday

My uncle apparently has cancer and it pretty much shows up in his stomach, lungs, liver, and esophagus. Had some biopsies done so they could a) have definte Dx of cancer and b) see if they can figure out the origin tumor and type to know how to treat. Well, surgeon's office apparently said that the biopsies were negative. His MD didn't think it sounded right so was able to track down the actual path report. Um, yeah, weren't negative, the surgeon got crappy samples and the path lab had nothing to work with. Think there is a definite difference between negative and poor sample to test. So he has to go through that portion all over again. Nice huh :(

Oh my God, that's awful.  Sounds like somebody needs to go to work with a clue-by-four over there.

DoomsDay ArdvarkYou have my deepest sympathies. My heart goes out to your family. Please let us know if we can help off-set the bill, it would be my pleasure in helping take a little of the pain away with the rainbow crossing. Much hugs. xox

DoomsDayAardvark: As many of you are already aware, I have some very sad news to relate this week, but I'll relate the story for everyone.

Wednesday morning, I was awakened by a call from the emergency vet saying that Kay had taken a turn for the worse, and that I should come see him.  He hung on just long enough for me to get there, and have about 10 minutes to say goodbye.  I held his paw as he took his last breath and drifted away.

There are so many of you that to try to list you all individually is doomed to failure -- the list of who hasn't expresse ...

Oh no!  I am so sorry that you have lost your very beloved Kay.  I know he has worked his way into every Caturday heart and we all grieve with you.  (((((((hugs)))))))

DoomsDayAardvark: I have no words to express my sorrow at your loss. Caturday will not be the same without Sir Kay.

Bathia_Mapes, sorry for the spelling. I'm a dunce.

The funniest thing happened to us last night, hubby was fiddling in the garage and he noticed a strange man picking flowers from my patio, so he trotted over and said, hey those are my wifes flowers, you shouldn't do that!  His response was "But they are so pretty".  Well, John was all riled up about it and I said show me which guy it was, and I'll give him his own pot of flowers.  Kill them with kindness. I was wondering why my flowers looked so....dismal lately. ha ha ha ha.

Sending massive hugs to everyone who needs them this Caturday.

Will take new pictures of the brats this weekend.
We have a Tutu in a Box (odd story) and an ongoing game of Spread Everything All Over the Living Room Floor.

Actually, if you want to make a financial gesture (and this goes for anybody in here who may feel this way), don't send money to me.  While Kay's final expenses are a hit, I'm glad to cover them myself as my duty as his "daddy."  It's tight, but I can do this.  Instead, see the donation links in my profile.  In less than a month, I'll be doing a pair of Kayak for a Cure events, raising money for the American Cancer Society, and Nationwide Children's Hospital's Pediatric Cancer Center in Columbus Ohio.  I'll personally feel much better having that money donated to a good cause, benefiting many people than having it buy me a bottle of scotch to toast a fallen friend.  I like to think it's what he'd have wanted if he'd understood what money was about.

DoomsDayAardvark: my sweet little Kay

This was so heartbreaking to hear about.  My deepest sympathies to you.  Kay was such a beautiful cat, and by the sounds of it, the best friend a guy could have.  I loved your stories about his little escapades.  I will miss seeing his expressive little fuzzy face and those adorable little white tube socks.  He was a great cat.  Caturday will miss him so much.  I know I already do.  :,(

Sending you great big hugs.  Take care of yourself during this tough time.  We are here for you.

Rest in peace, gallant Sir Kay.

Not to distract from DoomsDayAardvark's loss, but I had two pics prepared for Caturday and I'm working on the actual caturday.  This might seem callous, my apologies.

Bob hates Dexter (the show), but she's nice otherwise:
