(Washington Post)   Remember the "over 900 confirmed" cases of deceased citizens voting in South Carolina that Gov Haley and other state Republicans were freaking out about last year? "In the end, just five votes remained unresolved after extensive investigation"   (washingtonpost.com) divider line 101

Same thing happened in New Mexico.

Wait. This suggests that Nikki Haley is a lying asshat. I'm not sure I'm ready to accept that. ;)

The most bizarre part of this whole thing is that even the highest numbers of fraud cases these guys make up is nowhere near enough to actually change the outcome of an election, unless it's recount-close anyway.

In two other cases, people requested an absentee ballot, but died before returning it, so no harm was done

If you ever needed proof that republican's claims of the need for voter ID is bullshiat - there it is.
They came up with a list of people who voted illegally - and included two people on that list who never even voted at all, legally or illegally.

2013-07-25 02:57:27 PM
Based on TFA, it doesn't sound like Haley was freaking out about it, just commented about it one time in a vague way to help push a Voter ID agenda.

Either way that was just enough votes to defeat the Kenyan Usurper and provide for the rightful ascension of Mitt Romney.

The report confirms what the State Election Commission had found after preliminarily examining some of the allegations: The so-called votes by dead people were the result of clerical errors or mistaken identities.

Okay, y'all, so the next time there's suspicion of voter fraud, let's just assume clerical error, right?

Stunning.

When Republicans warn you that somebody bad is doing something bad (voter fraud, in this case) they are unwittingly indicating what they themselves want to do (defraud voters).

No, no, NO! We need extremely restrictive voting laws that make it impossible for thousands to vote, so we can catch those 3 errors!

no, but we should not pass Orwellian laws before we investigate.

It's a much safer, and historically proven assumption than believing whoever was telling that the problem voter ID would solve is voter fraud.

so after spending How much taxpayer money did they conclude that with these voting laws thier elections would be exactly none, none more secure than before with these new laws?

When we re-write and re-pass the VRA I want this clause in there:
"No change to any law regarding voter registration, or the method and timing of casting a ballot, which is legisaltively justified as an effort to prevent voter fraud shall be deemed valid if it can be shown to
A) be likely to decrease voter partipation by any amount, unless :
and
B) it cannot be shown to also have an equal effect on preventing or reducing
1) ACTUAL voting fraud that occured in the last election
or 2) Voting fruad that is believed to be likely to occur, provided that such belief is backed by verifiable evidence that supports an objectively reasonable conclusion that such fraud is likely to take place

The fact that you can't detect the fraud is the proof of how widespread it is.

2013-07-25 03:06:32 PM
What's interesting is that we have had some genuinely close elections recently.  The Coleman/Franklin Senate Race, the 2004 Washington governor's race, and of course the 2000 Presidential race in FL.  In none of these cases can anyone point to a single instance of actual fraud that wasn't detected and removed from consideration.

Another point that gave me a laugh is that the Indiana 8th district congressional race in 1983 was decided by just 4 votes in favor of the Democrat, yet the Republican Secretary of State ignored these results and attempted to seat the Republican candidate claiming that he had won by 34 votes.  They've been pulling this shiat for a generation.

keep on reinforcing the idea that Republicans are farking scum of the earth... Republicans!

And if Fox News (shakes head) had a modicum of farking integrity, they would at least make the correction on their show, you know, tell the truth for once in their miserable hate filled lives.

Anyone who watches Fox News for anything other than the comedy factor should be ashamed of themselves and publicly humiliated and maybe even receive a strongly worded letter.

It's generally the way to bet.  In person voter fraud is the highest risk, lowst reward crime on the books.   You risk 20 years n federal prision so you can cast a single additional vote out of millions cast.    I wonder if maybe, just maybe, that's why it is so rare as to be nearly non-existant

But, but, my dad swears that firefighters in Chicago are forced by their thug union bosses to go cast votes for democrats under the identities of dead people!  That's why the Libs keep getting reelected there!

voter fraud, the chupacabra of Democracy, Republicans have testified to its existence but can't provide any solid proof that it exists.  A percentage of the simple public lives in fear.

All the Boss Tweeds in the house say "MEH!"

But seriously, kill all these people in a fire.  South Carolina is the anal wart of the East Coast and Nikki Haley should drown in semen in a bukake film.

All the lack of shock and surprise about this would ring less hypocritical if it the same shenanigans weren't present on the other side of the issue, e.g., "LOOK, there's a sweet little old grandma we found who only has a social security card, so PHOTO ID LAWS WILL DISENFRANCHIZE ALL THE SWEET OLD GRANDMOTHERS AND BLACK PEOPLE."

They're not liars, it's just that the Republicans are like that one douchey teacher's assistance in college math classes.

"Do it over. We have to be sure to 11 digits of confidence."

Because statistically smaller than the margin of error (by several orders of magnitude) is not technically non-existant.

The South Carolina Election Commission looked at the voter rolls and compared them to the DMV records.  They found 240,000 people who were registered, but lacking ID acceptable under South Carolina's law.

And that voter ID law will at the very least create a giant pain in the ass for every one of those two hundred and forty thousand people, all (supposedly) in the name of the grand goal of eradicating exactly ZERO fraudulent votes.
