No, not grape soda.  Fruit punch, oj, Sprite, fruit pieces.  Mix it all together and let the fruit "marinate."

/ Also have a keg on tap
// $1 per cup
/// Sometimes I miss college

They used to use Grape and Orange Koolaid to make Purple and Orange Jesus at college. It's cheaper than soda. However, I expect that Grape Soda would be slightly better and would save on mixing. If you used an orange drink with added vitamin c at least you'd be throwing up something healthy. Like screwdrivers or Bloody Mary.

So much for the racial stereotype of blacks. Mind you, black guys and Preppies have a lot in common.

They are both People of the Party. People of the Sun. People who know where you can find Mary Jane or drugs or booze at 3:00 a.m. Sports. Preppy gear. Poor academic records pouring off their backs like water off a duck.

This supports Paul Fussell's class system and his thesis that the Top Out of Sights and the Bottom Out of Sights have a lot in common, so much so that they sometimes conspire together against the seven classes in between.

You couldn't pay me to drink ethanol.

I bought some and, to be funny, put a drop or two in my mouth with a dropper and swallowed. It felt like it was taking off the inside of my mouth, throat, and then stomach (probably from the dehydration).

When I worked at a science museum, one of the lab assistants and I would sneak into the bio lab and drink the biologist's pharmaceutical-grade absolute ethanol mixed with the sugar he used to feed yeast. Hideous to drink, but does the job.

Cut it 50/50 with water and you've still got some 100 proof vodak.

If only it were that easy. The federal government mandates that ethanol for all purposes other than spirits be spiked with benzene. It's kind of sick when you think about it. They intentionally make it toxic to prevent people from getting around paying liquor taxes, not caring if someone dies as a result.

CSB time.

In the mid 90s, I was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. A barracksmate decided to acquire some good old Kentucky moonshine for one of our (offpost) weekend ragers. As what you might call advanced drinkers, we polished off both jugs and had quite the time. A few weeks later, someone else (a National Guard supply specialist weenie on her 2 week yearly active jaunt) bought what she thought was moonshine... and a couple people wound up in the hospital from drinking too much methanol. Oops. I was on a TDY in Washington and came back to an active investigation in my battalion. Lawlz.

See when I was a kid I had a chemistry set and the directions said to have your parents buy you grain alcohol for the burner. My parents let me keep the bottle in my room, the bottle had more warnings on it that anything else I had seen. I never once considered drinking it.

Sadly, ethanol stored in large tanks (typically 100' dia and 50' tall) is denatured by adding gasoline.

This is usually what's in tank cars, too.

Some would still drink it, I suppose.

I don't think benzene is used for this.  Benzene is nasty stuff, would be problematic using the ethanol for fuel.

The benzene molecule is cute, tho.

Benzene is added in some distillation processes to obtain mostly-pure ethanol. I don't know how common it is these days vs. less toxic alternatives.

It takes just enough brain cells to find the headline from yesterday on the main page.
