That movie's production values and soundtrack have NOT stood the test of time very well.. Still entertaining.

That is cool beyond belief. The best part is that it's the only car they made that actually functions as a submarine.

Kind of surprised the Broccolis don't have it.

Who the hell owns (or closes) a production company and doesn't even bother to check if the $1M historic movie prop got taken care of?

Back in the day, the props tended to not get taken care of. It's a more recent development that they hang onto everything worth having.

If memory serves one of the DB5s used for filming was stolen years ago and has never surfaced.  If they knew what they took I bet it's in a swamp somewhere...

I get that, but it's a hell of a business model to just let assets rot. And if they had been in financial trouble, which they presumably were if they let the storage unit go, you'd think they'd try selling off anything of value first.

This is something that's always bothered me about Storage Wars. The most likely reason for anything of value to be abandoned in those lockers is if the owner died without telling their family it was there. Just a tad creepy.

He hooks up with Pussy Galore and flips her to the good side. Felix makes a reference to her agreeing to replace the toxic nerve gas [in the small crop-dusting planes] with something inert. Goldfinger's plan hinged on getting all of the soldiers/guards out of the way, so no nerve gas = no success.

heh - crop dusting

Too bad he didn't find the missing (stolen) James Bond Aston Martin DB5.  Mind you, that would be a huge legal battle with the insurance companies no doubt (and sadly, that car was probably chopped).

Oh, and the Roger Moore Bond films all sucked.

Goldfinger used to be my favourite until I saw From Russia with Love. Goldfinger is still good but it seems to be much more of a straight up action movie, while FRWL had more suspense/thriller spy movie elements to it that I really liked.

Moonraker is a great movie. I won't hear any more of it. I mean it's terrible but it's great. It's campy and stupid and perfect.

And Craig is the best Bond, I don't care what you say. Skyfall was good but the ending killed me - what you guys can't figure out a way to send a couple of elite army units out there to fight an army of bad guys? Here's a tip from America - put them in the church, put bond in the house to provoke, then...drone strike that motherf*cker. Quantum of Solace had a terrible plot and an even worse villain, I don't care what you say.

Best three are:

1. Casino Royale - Craig takes the role in stride. We have a smart, incredibly resourceful character, decent although not great plot, one of the best chase scenes ever, fun and daring airport scene, an amazing chemistry with the lead actress, I mean Giancarlo Gianinni, arguably the greatest Italian actor ever?
2. Goldfinger - plot twist, Pussy Galore as great foil for Bond.
3. From Russia with Love - also great bond girl, good plot. Fantastic movie.

MrBallou: Who the hell owns (or closes) a production company and doesn't even bother to check if the $1M historic movie prop got taken care of?

The short answer is that EON Productions (who've produced the Bond movies) are an independent production company and run as cheap a ship as possible, so they cut corners wherever they can, and haven't bothered to hold onto a huge warehouse of props as that would cost a lot of money.

Also: a lot of these props were so specialized that they were basically built by weird guys in sheds.  The prop-makers worked as independent contractors, so at the end of the movie, they got to take everything they built home and could do with it whatever they wanted.

Which is why vintage Bond props turn up all over the place.

The car up for sale is the only one that worked as a self-propelled submarine.

There was a reference about the real car being retrieved from a storage locker in the bond episode. That was well over a year ago at least.

Because Bond was in on the joke.

I remember an aside from How to Succeed at Evil where the midget lawyer hench person suggested nuking Fort Knox in order to devalue the USD. The Evil Consultant asked "So, you propose to go through all that work to devalue the US dollar by 98%? I think you'll find someone beat you to the punch."

Gotta put Goldfinger on top - it is the quintessential Bond movie, showing him firing on all cylinders (can't beat the bad guy straight up? Fark the lesbian straight to rig the game). While Casino Royale is one of the best films, Bond doesn't hit his stride until the very end. IIRC, the suit he's wearing when confronting Mr. White is a navy version of the gray suit from Goldfinger - he took the whole movie to become the pinnacle of awesome.

Maybe not the best Bond movie out there, but it did introduce one of the best movie henchmen out there, Jaws.
