He was expressing disappointment that we haven't made more progress since the 60's and the strong reactions here are just evidence of a lot of work left to do.

I'll take Matthews over Trump or O'Reilly as a spokesman any day.

Are those people farking serious?

I can sort of understand the impetus behind it (gaining perspective and empathy and whatnot), but that still seems a bit bizarre. It reminded me of an incident several years ago, in which Colonial Williamsburg decided to hold a reenactment of a slave auction. Certain members of the black community were up in arms (as well as some whites), saying that it was a tawdry bit of exploitation for tourist cash.

The detractors were all invited to attend and monitor the event, and they all walked away with minds changed; apparently the performers pulled no punches in the reenactment, and showed it for the horror it was. As I recall, a good number of the audience were weeping while watching it, and gained a bit of new-found understanding. A much better approach if you ask me.

Don't you dare give thoughtful and reasoned reactions on the internet.

I'm sorry. I'll try to write in text-speak next time.

What cocks, trying to (admittedly in vain) feel what it's like to be another person.

Personally I think that's a rather clownish exercise you posted there (and of course had it not been clownish you would not have posted it) but going full apathetic retard (aka how the US right wing would treat these issues) is a lot, lot worse.

Speaking for 'All White People,' Chris Matthews Apologizes to Black Americans for ... Something
newsbusters.org
7/19/2013

So about a 2 week interval, sounds about right, but this not the only ratings grab MSNBC has been up to in July. The entire month seems to have been devoted to news pratfalls from the various talking heads.

In fairness, it is a Newsbusters story. A site pretty much devoted to doo-doo-ing on MSNBC as a business model, so there is that too.

However, it also sounds about right for MSNBC. When the ratings drop, one or more of the news-bobble-heads will fall on the sword for the channel with some trollish, attention grabbing headline or an on-screen meltdown over some concocted outrage event with questionable relevance. MHP seems to be carrying the flag quite a bit these days with things like the "Timeshare Our Children" idea and Tampon Earrings Fashion show. In a pinch though, good ole Matthews is never one to be left on the sidelines.

Just another day ending in "y" on MSNBC: the Place For Politics News-Freak-Sideshows

Apparently if you're white and you talk about racism, privilege or even basic American history, you're afflicted with white guilt.  The reality is we're not scared to talk about it because we don't feel guilty.  We do however think that it's a pretty important issue that needs to be publicly addressed.

What is it that keeps you from acknowledging the realities of racism and the legacy of slavery that exists to this day?

This.  White folks seem to care much more about what those two say than black people.  Conservative whites take their word as the word of all black people and then get pissed when Pat Buchanan or Pat Robertson are treated as the spokesmen for all white Christians.

Their job is to get on camera.  Sharpton's not that bad, but Jackson's behavior during MLK's assassination is just mindblowingly AWing.  What a douche.

"Cosplaying" there isn't "necessary" to understand being a racist dick isn't acceptable but it can be helpful for some, and if you'd bother to look at the world around you, you'd see that the US still has some very terrible issues with race and with people of vastly different socioeconomic backgrounds respecting each other.

Yeah... no. The exercise in question wasn't valuable for anything other than feeding their white guilt while (and to them this is the important part) their activity is documented for all to see.

Seriously, how does being bonded in yokes and chains while wearing a pathetically apologetic "so sorry" shirt teach one about the horrors of slavery?

An autism disorder is generally considered to be a mental problem.

Bear in mind I was calling you Aspergery as you seem to not understand how normal people think, which is a common issue people with Aspergers deal with.

Thus implying that "normal people" totally get cosplaying slaves to ameliorate their assumed guilt for things they never did? I dissent.

How simply can I say "buying slaves is wrong" and not have you accuse me of having mental problems? Because no matter what you say, buying human beings that have been enslaved is wrong. Period. I can't argue with you about it, because there's no argument. It's wrong. Fundamentally. If you have to play pretend for a day to realise this, I'm not the one with mental problems.

What the hell does that even mean? Why would you pretend to feel guilt about something "just to look good?" Maybe US slavery is something all Americans should feel shame about. Maybe a lot of poverty was born from that and the "free market" of charity, culture, AND labor has failed to address this.

Why don't you feel like you've benefited from living in a stable society? And what the hell kind of person are you that you would not want others to benefit the same? It's not about "poor poor black people are too victimized to ever be equal", it's about mitigating what institutional racism is still around.

Because you're a bastion of racial harmony and lack or prejudice. Does anyone at all believe that?

Stop looking for validation of your viewpoint from the peanut gallery. No, it's ironic because 99% of my posts in these threads regarding race are about how I think many black people are being unfairly characterized because of the actions of people who look like us. I like how you left out this part:

FYI, "Farkers" is not a race.

Exactly...champ. Which is why when I said "Farkers" you shouldn't have assumed i meant "white people". But you did.

You didn't say "Farkers" until responding to my response to your post to me.

Look at the thread.

Prior to that, you said "I assumed it was the same people who told you..."

Who are "you?" It can't mean "Farkers," logically, as you yourself are a Farker, and I, a Farker, never held the view you accused "Farkers" of.

Think these things through. Champ. Smh.
