Do the people love us again?

He was tasting them to see if they are ripe for the plucking.

MadAzza: The My Little Pony Killer: MadAzza: runescorpio: Mock26: Were they boy babies?  I bet they were boy babies.

The pic says it all. Goin in for a smooch with a young boy.

C'mon, guys, let's try coming up with some new material.

The pope is not going to kiss you. You're too old.

Hmm ... "too old" ... Nope, not good enough. You can do better.

Too late, already snagged ya.

firsttiger: I like him better than the last one. I couldn't stop hearing The Count from Sesame Street whenever Benedict was about thanks to a friend who felt there was a resemblance.

/one, one venial sin mwuahahaha

I kept thinking of Farscape's Rygel XVI.

Having a Pope this deep, down, and decent inspires a sense of Catholic guilt over the fact I'm a bad Catholic.

/unless he engages in superdickery, he's better than mah boy John "The Polack" Paul Double

Stone Meadow: Smeggy Smurf: Stone Meadow: I appreciate him dispensing with the creepy pope-mobile, but at the same time I sure hope no one pops him.

Don't fark with a Jesuit.  Odds are pope frankie is packing heat.

LOL...yeah. My best friend from Peace Corps' brother is a Jesuit priest/lawyer. I believe you.

A priest/lawyer? So his boss is God/Satan?

Presbyterian minister/subby here.  The "all Catholics are pediphils" jokes get old REAL fast, because... yeah, they're just old.  I like this pope.  That's all.

/thanks for the votes!

radarlove: One of the things that makes me suspicious of Francis is the fact that he's a vocal reformer and yet, somehow, still alive.  (And he's a Jesuit, no less.)

JP1 spoke of reform a lot too, only he was poisoned after only a month in office.

I think Frankie must have some powerful folks in his corner.

You don't really buy into the poisoning thing, do you? Half my family says shiat like that (the Irish catholic half)

THIS.

Not a fan of organized religion in general and the Catholic hierarchy in particular, but this guy seems OK, for a pope.

This clown is full of shiat. How many pedophiles has he turned over to the authorities? Zero. Don't be fooled by this window dressing.

You have some issues. Maybe you need to go to confession.

There's a reason all the advisory jobs remain unfilled. He's avoiding the Curia and Opes Dei in specific.

How many extradition orders from the Vatican has he received?  How many requests for documents and cooperation has he received from the Roman or Italian Authorities?  Those are the only two locations he has jurisdiction over.  He's ordered all of the Bishops and Cardinals to cooperate, and they are the ones who would have any documentation and knowledge on this one.  Show me a legal authority asking for a resident of the Vatican to be turned over to them and you might have something.  The only one most people can name is Bernard Cardinal Law, and some idiots think he is sheltered in the Vatican.  This is despite the fact he turned over ALL documents related to the scandals in the diocese of Boston, spoke to a grand jury several times, and was acquitted because the failure to report pedophile priests wasn't against the law when he was in charge.  That law is quite new on the books in the US.

You've got the wrong target.  This guy is fighting against the culture of institutional protectionism that led to the scandals to start with.

At least this one is following the primary rule of kissing other people's babies... make certain that the parents are there, too.

You don't remember John Paul II? Goddamn that makes me feel old.

Probably the College of Cardinals is regretting their choice right now...again...."Damnit, remember what happened last time we elected some old man nobody knew! We actually had a holy man as Pope!"

1. JPII was pretty young when he was elected, as far as Popes go: 58
2. JPII ruled the Church with an iron fist and the last decade of his papacy was a disaster.
