Since then, Bevin has contributed more than $30,000 to political campaigns and causes - all of them Republican except for two small contributions to Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.

OMG RINO

I think pretty much every Republican is going to draw a Teabagger primary opponent in this cycle.  It'll be interesting to see how this affects things: if the Teabagger wins, or forces the non-Teabagger to get really derpy to try to defeat them, the dreams the Republicans have of retaking the Senate will probably vanish.

Yeah...staggeringly bad misstep with that Ad on McConnell's part.  The ONLY thing that the ad accomplished was give Grimes name recognition.  The song was catchy (stupid, but immediate ear worm).  But the song itself didn't actually say anything bad about her.  All the "hits" against her were on the screen where they are easily forgotten.  Two weeks later, and "What rhymes with Alison Lundergan Grimes" is still going through my head, but I can't remember the retarded things that supposedly do.  Something something Mime? Good times?  The things he listed don't even farking rhyme.  Her biggest lack is name recognition, and McConnell gave it to her for free.  Political science classes should use this ad as the platonic ideal of how to fark yourself in your own ass with a shard of turtle shell.

Just like the Senate results in the last two elections.

The only real problem with having the TURTLE defeated either by a primary opponent or in the general because he went too far right (not likely as he is from a state that elected Rand Paul) is that we might be left with John Cronyn as minority leader.

Welcome to KY.
The biggest tobacco counties in the state polled better for Clinton after he said he was going to be tough on tobacco.
Farmers ran a good representative out of the the house when he approved farm subsidies, but they weren't big enough. Got zero from the next guy.
We now want to get rid of federal money to eliminate state deficits.

Have you visited our lovely Creation Museum? It got increased funding last year following the second cut to education funding!

FTA (emphasis mine):  The 46-year-old millionaire enters the race with the support of more than a dozen tea party groups from around the state who have never been comfortable with McConnell and his long history of bringing federal funding to Kentucky.

I wonder what Rand Paul is going to do.  He's positioning himself as the Tea Party presidential candidate in 2016, but he ultimately takes his marching orders from McConnell.

I keep hoping we'll have a nice sex scandal that catches McConnell and RAND PAUL in a rest stop bathroom together. Get rid of both my state's dumbass Senators and create WEEKS worth of entertainment. I'd buy popcorn stock and make a MINT.

I wholeheartedly approve of what this Bevins guy is doing, and hope that more Real Americans™ across the country follow his lead and run against the current Republican congressmen in their primaries in '14.

Because the Democratic sweep will be epic, and we'll have a HILARIOUS derpstorm in the meantime.

That's fine.  Bevins may be derpier and more embarrassing, but there's no way he'll be as effective as McConnell at pushing the right wing agenda in the Senate of getting absolutely nothing done.  Bevins will just be another idiot shouting into the derp chorus.  McConnell is a legitimate threat.

I'm not sure what the point is of that video.  It doesn't make her look bad, at least it doesn't establish that she has positions people might dislike.  They call her a "left wing mime" for some reason, because "it rhymes" I suppose, but I can't figure out why beyond that or what that is supposed to mean.  Mostly it just gets her name stuck in your head.  I wouldn't have known who Allison Grimes was otherwise and now I doubt I'll be able to forget her name.  Good job?

The only bad thing for me is having to watch herpy-derpy McConnell ads nonstop for eighteen months straight (three already, fifteen to come) if and when I tune into local television for the news.

Otherwise, please proceed, Palin-Americans.

That and it looks like it was made by a 14-year old who just discovered Windows Movie Maker and Paint.  Holy shiat.  Can't they find a single professional video editor in the state who's still a Republican?

As I said in the other thread about this, it's doubly entertaining for the fact that whoever wins, Rand Paul loses (his prospects for a 2016 Presidential run).

He has been bending over backwards to make the tea party like him for several years now and they primary him anyways.  You would think he would have some self respect and stand up for himself after this, but I am guessing he crawls further into his shell

Seriously: I know most people don't think strategically about their votes (and to a degree they shouldn't because it is so cynical) but if you really don't have serious objections to your Senator don't vote for a primary challenger if only because of committee asignments and the like. The House has some flexibility on who gets what position but the Senate has a thing for tenure and as a result the longer you've been in Washington the more muscle you can flex for your state.

I actually saw a cartoon reference that joke. In "Dan vs. The Fancy Restaurant" the titular character steals a reservation for himself, his best friend, and his best friend's wife under the name Dufrenes. Was definitely a welcome easter egg.

How many of those are tax exempt? The IRS should investigate...

Came here to say this, exactly.  And they're self-righteous about it.  Probably shouldn't come as a surprise that the median income in this state is $23K/year.   Cincinnati, which should be a reasonably forward-thinking place, is mired in the Kentucky/Indiana/SW Ohio derp pit, too.

I believe it.  Louisville, Northern KY (the Covington area, right next to Cincy) and some areas of Lexington are decent places to live.  The rest of the state is a dysfunctional hellhole of meth, obesity and oppressive religiosity.  Hell, KY still, to this day, has several dry counties, some of them a short 30 minute away from the "big city".

I just moved from one. Well, a "moist" county, anyway. Shelbyville was wet, and restaurants outside city limits could get liquor licenses.
The restriction are there just to appease the blue-haired church crowd who control a lot of old money.

major alcohol production centers

Fixed that for you. You've got the rest mostly right though. GF and I were out in a smaller town half an hour or so from LEX for a performance by some of her students and made the mistake of deciding to grab dinner there at a restaurant instead of waiting to get it back in town- and got a quick reminder of just how wildly different things are once you get outside of the Fayette county limits...
