That review was weird enough that I actually kind of want to go see it now.

/still probably won't

I'll probably see this, but really only after I finish seeing The Conjuring and I sneak into an adjacent theater to do it

I was "probably" going to go see it. Just to see if it was better than XM:O.
Now I will definitely go see it.

I haven't met anyone who is really excited for yet another wolverine movie.  The one in 2009 was so bad it was funny and this one seems like a cash grab just so they can keep the rights to the character. Give me another Xmen First class movie instead.

Yep and not ashamed to admit it either

I'll see it...because I'm a geek and like this sort of thing.

Have they (re)made quite enough freaking Wolverine movies quite yet?

I do want to see this, too.
I used to think the ol' 2 for 1 sneaking method was the only way to go.  It's not worth $13 to sit in a theater to get my seat kicked and listen to other people talk and watch them text.  I've been trying the Lux Theaters, which eliminates all of that.  But now I have a waitress coming to talk to me about the bill about 10-15 minutes before the movie ends - or as most movies would call it, the most important part of the film.  I might still like your method better.

They will make "X-Men: Reading the Paper While Pooping" before they will give up the rights to Marvel Studios (or whoever owns Marvel now).

Now, in the present, this same dying soldier -- now a rich tycoon -- summons for sad Wolverine to say goodbye. Wolverine then travels to Japan, the two say a tearful goodbye and the credits roll after what turned out to be a 22-minute movie. Obviously that last sentence is a lie.

That there was some funny shiat.

After Wolverine Origins I'm not too excited about this movie.  X men last stand was awful.

I was surprised that Daredevil actually reverted back to Marvel. I guess they couldn't figure out a way to recover after Ben  Afflecked the role.

The trick is picking the right pair of movies so the movie times line up and crossing it where your first one paid is a matinee and your second is during prime hours.

That and bringing a magazine to take a shiat between movies

Except of course the entire point, and what every reviewer has said, is that this movie is nothing like those movies.  So you're basically making the worst possible comparisons in your reasons not to see this movie.

I'd never even thought of the possibility of only paying the matinee price.  I always did a ~7PM and a ~10PM
Also, I was not up to speed on the magazine strategy.  So thank you, I think.

Really?  That seems odd.  Why don't they just take your card ahead of time and charge you/give it back on the way out?  Bar tab style...

That way you can see the movie you wanted to see with minimal crowd and the movie you were meh about with a larger crowd so you blend in better with the usher. Sometimes I'll change shirts too, or take off a jacket or something.

I say if you are going to thieve, then do your best at it.

No one would be saying this if Aronofsky had directed.... It's a shame he dropped out. But the current director is competent... It's just that Aronofsky usually has a very concerted, unique vision that is off-key compared to others. It would have been interesting to see that played out with a comic book character...

Those prices must be super old.  doesn't popcorn cost like 10 dollars now?  and wtf is with the differences in size?  the there's barely any difference, might as well just have one size.  And the kid and the small cost the same?  fark you!

What is with all the Wolverine: Origins hate?

It was a good movie!  What are people expecting?  Every time people complain about that movie, other than the whole Deadpool becoming a mute, they fail to specify why they hate it!?!  The movie makes sense!

Wolverine/Logan has one of the most convoluted comic book origins.  The Origins movie kind of put it all together so that it made sense.  It combined the horrible The-Secret-Garden-meets-Wolverine Origin comicbook with the great Weapon-X short.  Wolverine loved that one chick who looks a lot like Jean Grey which kind of explains why he's obsessed with Jean later.  Plus, it finally explained how Sabretooth and Wolverine were related.

That was something that has always irked me.  In the comics Sabretooth always seemed to know more about Wolverine's past than Wolverine did and hates Wolverine for some unknown reason. But we never really find out how or why Sabretooth has this knowledge and why he hates Wolverine.  On a personal note, Sabretooth is more realistic than Wolverine.  I mean, if you can heal from any wound, are almost impossible to kill, near immortal, with a built in admantanium weapon, you're going to be an evil individual.  Why?  Because who can stop you!

Anyway, why do people hate Origins?  Is it the way it was filmed?  The storyline?  The lack of a Deadpool movie?  It's a comic book movie and I thought it was pretty good.  It's no Godfather but it's not Godfather III level of bad.

2013-07-24 03:50:56 PM
I have passes to see this tomorrow. I'm not expecting much. My flask will probably be the highlight of the evening, but I'm hoping the movie proves me wrong.

2013-07-24 03:52:08 PM
Ok, I have to admit I am one of those that didn't hate Wolverine: Origins.

True, I am not a rabid Wolverine fan but I did my time in the 90's and had my share of marvel comics.

Not saying it was a great movie but was fun.

Looking forward to seeing this one, even though it's tainted by being in the same continuity as X3.  Hopefully, DoFP will fix that.

That assumes people are only good out of fear of punishment.  Some people are actually just good people, and do good things because it's in their nature.

There were a couple things to like about it, Sabretooth and the first bit weren't all bad.  Once he got the Adamantium though, the effects started to look like early trial concept shots.  The cramming in of cameos by other mutants just felt gratuitous most of the time.  The brain scrambling adamantium bullet that should have left him with a soft spot for life...

It just felt ill thought-out, rushed, and stupid.  I don't expect high cinema when I walk into an action movie, but a little internal consistency based on the rules they've set up would be swell.

I thought the montage during the credits with Wolverine and his brother fighting in all of the US's wars since the Civil War was cool, I wanted to see more of that. But I dunno, all the goofy other superheroes, I guess I'm not enough of a comic book guy. Then, I know comic book guys who hated it for different reasons.

Only part of Wolverine: Origins I hated was the butchering of Deadpool.

The cameo's of other mutants was kind of interesting as Wolverine has crossed paths with other mutants/super beings before he got his admantanium claws.

There's a lot of stuff about Wolverine that didn't make it into the movie that might make fanboys mad.  But like a lot of comicbook characters, Wolverine has some really outdated and sometimes dumb character flaws.  Like, he's 5'2" in the comics!!! Plus, the yellow and blue costume and then there was the yellow and red costume that looked cool at the time but is really outdated today.  And why does his hair match his stupid mask that really serves no purpose.  I mean every government agency in the world knows what Wolverine's face looks like so why bother with a mask?  I can't remember the artist but someone drew him for a while in the early 2000s wearing just wore a leather X-men biker jacket with no shirt, nose was clearly broken, and slicked his hair back to get the greasy biker.  That to me is how he should look which is how he looked in the movie.

To me if there were super powered beings some government or government agency is going to recruit these people, train them, and use them for black ops type of stuff. In the comics, Wolverine was originally part of some kind of secret black ops team that did special forces suicide missions.  Sabretooth, Deadpool, Maverick, Transporter(?), Mastadon, and some other guys were on the team so hence the cameos.

I think some of the kids that are shown at the end are supposed to be future X-man or Magneto's disciples and this is how they meet Xavier and Magneto.  It would also explain why Xavier would let someone as dangerous and violent as Wolverine into the X-Mansion and around kids. He's the reason they were freed.

The gunshot to the head would sort of explain the memory loss, I think your frontal lobes hold your memories, and Wolverine has super healing powers so he could recover.  Personally, I think part of Wolverines super healing factor would include memory suppression because of all the PTSD he would have endured over such a long life thus why he can't remember his past.

I don't know...I don't see comic book movies thinking that they are going to win Oscars.  I don't expect a lot of storyline or realism from comicbook movies but I thought Wolverine: Origins did a good enough job covering those points. It was enjoyable and worth $7 for a ticket.
