In this era of partisan asshattery and congressional inaction, I think that simple, achievable legislation that every true American could get behind is some sort of ban and penalty put in place for the creation of vertical cell phone videos.

They all have accelerometers.  It'd be a simple matter to make the phone unable to even record in that orientation.  I'd be in.  In the meantime, the death penalty seems appropriate.

"Dramatic video shows 22 year old Morgan Lake as she clings to a pile of rocks shortly after a crash on the Bay Bridge sent her car into the water."

Well sure, but only if you interpret "sitting relatively calmly on a rock" as "clinging" to said rock.

Is it just me or does the guy talking to her seem to think that he's preventing her from ending it all?
Him: "Just be calm, help's on the way"
Morgan: "Uh sure, that's why I'm just sitting here"
H: "I can hear the ambulance, just hang on a little while longer"
M: "Still sitting here waiting, or you know you could lower a rope or a belt & pull me up this 10 feet, well 3 feet once I stand up & raise my arms."
H: "What's your name (so I can get the police right on notifying the next of kin or making id'ing the body easier...)?"
M: (ignores the stalker)
H: "Just hang on, help's almost here"
M: (double face-palming "Jesus, this day sucks....")
H: "Don't let go of the rocks"
M: "Uh, I've been sitting here for a while now, I think my butt has a good enough grip"

I must say though I am disappointed in Fox for ignoring the chance to show us pictures of what seems to be a relatively attractive, top heavy 22 year old in a wet shirt once she was rescued.  Ratings guys, think of the ratings....

I'm OK with this.

And then there are the cell phone video people.  "Wow, I can film this.  See, look at me filming this.  I wonder if anyone will help the people in the accident?  Darn, those cops are taking a long time.  Should I zoom in a bit now or do a slow, shaky scan of the crowd?"

I honestly would be the type of person that would do what I can, but here, she's out of the car, safely out of danger as long as she stays on the rocks, and this is at a location that there is no access to get to her, or have her go anywhere (without returning to the water).

So aside throwing her a blanket (and hope it doesn't land in the water), there's nothing really that anyone can do.

Jumping in the water to go sit next to her, aside to stare at her funbags, there's not much to accomplish really...

She just needs to sit and wait for either a crane (or such) to lift her to the bridge, or a boat.

Didn't see any details about the actual accident... did she drove off the bridge, was pushed off, etc.???

The drop from the bridge was about 40'. The high point on the bridge deck is 182'. If you're going to go over, she picked a good spot.

Well yeah.  You'd need/want at least a few more feet to go beyond the railing & over to the big solid truck to tie the rope off on.  Or were you planning on wrapping the rope once around your wrist & hoping that you'd be able to hold on when she was almost all the way up? - "Ooops, sorry about that.  Hey, you know how you were complaining thinking that your ankle was broken a while ago?  Well now that you've fallen 12 feet onto rocks & landed flat on your back, I'll bet your ankle doesn't hurt so much now huh?"

Russ has the right idea I think, no going rapelling with mudpants....

"but the driver was able to climb [and swim] to safety."
and
"was rescued and flown to Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore. She was in critical condition late Friday with non-life-threatening injuries."
The two don't add up.  The only think I could think of was that they sent the helicopter out the moment someone reported her going over the bridge and she was banged up enough to justify going to a hospital, so put they put her in.  Basically, I think "being in a car that fell 40' into the Bay" means you should be willing to have some tests run.

Walker: She wasn't in critical condition. The guy is cray cray. You saw her swimming and walking around. She was fine. She was home the next day being interviewed on the news."

1. It's Fox.  2. The bay bridge[s] is honking huge and scary (the VA one is even more huge, probably as scary), and whoever owns/runs it is absolutely terrified of publicity and lawsuits.  182' looks even further away when you are on top of it (although they have a "walk the bay bridge" some time between when Ocean City becomes a ghost town and winter means even less people are willing to walk than normal).

Because if anybody tried to climb down there what most likely would have happened is that they would have fallen and needed rescuing also. And if they didn't fall and managed to get to her safely what were they going to do? Sit next to her on the rocks and wait to be rescued also? They were going to be able to climb back up.

Quite a few years ago I came upon an accident where a young woman was trapped in her car after being hit by a drunk driver. I was able to enter the car from the passenger side and sit with her until help arrived. Although I clearly could do nothing to free her from the car, nor would that have been a good idea because of her injuries, I at least wanted her to have someone there for a bit of comfort.

Good for you!

Similar situation twice for me... two accidents, I stopped, did what I could, did as much first-aid as I could, ensured that nothing else could happen, cleaned wounds, ensured that the person stayed conscious and didn't move (in case of spinal injury as neither could really move at that point), did what I could to assist the medics when they got there, etc.

Both times a couple of others came over to assist, but overall, most didn't know what to do or simply stood there.

The first one though, the medic I was dealing with with an idiot, kept pulling the poor guy in a bad way, hitting the injured guy in the door.  When I tried to assist by holding the door out of the way, this idiot went on a power trip about he was in charge, etc... I ended up breaking the door out of it's hinges and getting the guy out without him getting smashed into it.
