I'm in favor of a remake of this movie, since the first one was crap. I read the hell out of that book in high school and it should make a great movie.

Wall_of_Doodoo: Being almost 40 I have some pretty good memories of these books. The majority of my high school girlfriends loved two things:

1) the books of VC Andrews
2) the soundtrack from 'Grease'

Plus at the time I was having tons of sex with really tight teenagers all the friggin time. Of course, they were the same age as me at the same time so I only thought it was superawesome instead of supermegasuperawesome as I should have recognized the situation as.

Getting old kinda sucks.

Now you weren't. You were reading Flowers in the Attic.

/getting old absolutely sucks.

Read the series while bored at my grandparents house when I was a kid. My sister had brought them along while we were stuck there for a week. They are cheesy but very engaging. Never knew anyone made a movie of them. Gotta imagine it was terrible since the interesting part was the psychological stuff that wouldn't translate well to film.

'Crap - man, are you being kind.  It's not even bad in the 'Showgirls' sense of bad:  It just sucks large quantities of dead penguin dicks!  It's like they followed the book for about 3/4ths of the movie, and were all 'Oh, crap:  We still have 50 chapters to go...let's just go free for all!'  The makeup effects were horrible...it just ruined one of my all time childhood guilty pleasures.

However...I'm slightly optimistic that, this kinda being right up Lifetime's ally, and the casting...they could work some cheesily awesome magic with this.

The movie is SOOOOOOOOO bad:  Christy Swanson was Cathy, Louise Fletcher was gramma...they left out SOOO many of the significant portions of the book.  The acting made SyFy Originals look damned near Shakespearean.  Not even redeemable enough to make the 'So Bad it's Good' category: And they fly waaaayyyy off the rails from the book to a point the only redeemable thing the piece of crap did was make up and ending to ensure that there would be no sequels.

Lifetime remakes Flowers in the Attic? Good idea, I can't wait for The Hallmark Channel's version of Blue Velvet.

Oh hooray! I'd forgotten about those books. It would be neat if they made it a mini series event and followed the series. That shiat gets all kinds of farked up.

Every time I see Piper Perabo (which is a lot recently, as I am burning through Covert Affairs on Amazon streaming) I think of Cathy, post-attic. She has a look that screams "I've been locked in an attic for a year and eating arsenic."

As much as I love seeing Ellen Burstyn chewing some scenery, the Grandmother character is not really seen that much in the book. She's just talked about. To make a good movie they will have to have better child actors, and stick more closely to the book. It really would make a great movie and I'm surprised no one tried again, except the subject matter could be offensive if handled poorly.

My mother pitched a fit when she finally read the book herself, but as I had already read it so many times my copy fell apart, it was too late to save me from the unsavory. teehee

/time to see if Half-Price Books has a copy on the shelves

Actually, I'd rather see the Heaven series made into movies.

But yeah the Flowers movie sucked big donkey balls.

The mere fact that you call making love "flowers" tells me that you're not ready.

I think this is one case when a remake is not only not a bad idea, it's actually a really damned good idea. The original was simply dreadful, and not in the good way that a horror/suspense film should be. No, it was just BAD. Bad acting, bad plot changes, bad dialogue, bad direction... Just awful. And I loved those books as a teen. They were pretty screwed-up. The movie has none of that.

Really, I think even the Disney Channel's tween actors could manage a better version. The original was a travesty.

So yeah: Do it, Lifetime, and spare no emotion. Don't try to lessen the impact or remove "unsavory" elements of the story. The whole point of the story is that these kids go through some awful shiat, and end up responding by doing things they never would have done had they not been put in that situation.
