TuteTibiImperes: Well, he's already admitted it this time.  I guess at this point his only options are to withdraw from the race, make a statement saying "yes, I thought with my dick again, but that doesn't mean that I can't be a great leader for you on policy and politics, let's focus on the issues now..", or I guess an outside chance third option where he declares a press conference, whips it out and says "Have a good look, now, can we move on?"

In retrospect, I'm sort of surprised Clinton never took that path.

I think it all depends on his wife.  If she leaves him over this he's sunk.  I don't think she will, though.  She's got political ambitions and having your husband as the mayor of New York is a nice feather in your cap.  She's going to go the Hillary route.

ongbok: I read that as her saying he never sent her anything inappropriate, which is what she said.

Yeah, never until the dick pic.

Ms. Cordova, who had traded messages with Mr. Weiner, a New York Democrat, about their shared concern over his conservative critics, said she had never sent him anything provocative. Asked if she was taken aback by his decision to send the photo, she responded, "Oh gosh, yes."

That sounds very unsolicited to me.

Mr. Weiner, at his news conference on Monday, said he had sent Ms. Cordova the underwear photo "as part of a joke." But Ms. Cordova said the image was not in keeping with the tenor of their previous interactions.

"I still didn't get the joke part of it," she said.

Not to mention his wife is smoking hot.  Why jerk it to (what is likely to be) 50-year-old ugly men on the internet pretending to be bisexual 21-year-olds when you could, you know, get it on with your hot wife right there.

The picture (of Weiner in his underwear, not a picture of his dick) was deleted almost instantly, and the woman only found out about it from other people who she claimed had been "harassing" her for some time. Weiner, for his part, realized that he'd made a mistake and did everything a person could reasonably be expected to do to undo it.

You're conflating the fact that the photo was traced back to Weiner with a separate claim about him engaging in "unsolicited" or "non-consensual" stuff. Certainly, no reasonable person would use these terms to describe something somebody did by mistake and in fact tried to correct. If you absolutely must go after people for sending her "unsolicited" content, you should focus on the other people who spammed her twitter feed after the news went public.

"Last Friday night, I tweeted a photograph of myself that I intended to send as a direct message as part of a joke to a woman in Seattle. Once I realized I had posted it to Twitter, I panicked, I took it down, and said that I had been hacked." -Anthony Weiner

His mistake was that he tweeted it instead of sending it to her as a direct message, but he certainly did mean to send her (wait for it) an unsolicited and nonconsensual picture of his dick ok fine it was his engorged dick in some briefs.  For it to be solicited, she would have had to ask him to send it, right?  Where is the evidence that happened?

To be fair, I'm not familiar with Wiener's record as a politician.  I only heard of this guy because of his first sexting scandal.  With that being said, seriously, how can a guy that repeatedly engages in behavior this reckless, even after getting caught, ever be a good mayor?

I know plenty of people that excel professionally but have messy personal lives, but in Wiener's case, his personal life directly affects his professional one, and yet, he changed nothing.  He didn't even seem to try harder not to get caught this time.

There was an interesting thread the other day about sex addiction. I thought of it immediately when I heard this story. Exhibit A: Anthony Weiner.

TuteTibiImperes: tripleseven: James!: Mayor Christine Quinn.

Which is a terrible thought.

Eh, she seems like she could be alright, but IIRC she's been very buddy-buddy with Bloomberg, and it would be a shame if she continued some of his escapades into nanny-state-ism.  Banning large sodas and trying to legislate trans-fat and salt content of restaurant and street food is the kind of stuff that gives progressives a bad name.

She voted to allow bloomie to run for a third term, when 89% of NY'ers wanted a public referendum on it.

Back door politics, she should never serve in a public capacity again.

Neither should: the 27 other council members who voted for it, and that's double for them, because all of them prior to changing the law, voted to not allow it to a public referendum.

Sickening, and if it were earlier times, people like this would be tried for treason.

First, let's acknowledge we're no longer talking about what Weiner actually did, but the hypothetical scenario of what he intended to do instead. In real life, what we know is that the picture was posted, taken down, and then not sent at all (or maybe it was sent again in a private message and the lady's just been keeping quiet about it all this time).

I don't know the full details about what she and Weiner had been talking about leading up him posting that picture, so I can't really answer your question about "evidence". What I can tell you is that the purported victim in your scenario hasn't even once (as far as I can see) complained about the things that you've been complaining about on her behalf. She says she's disappointed in him, but then again, so were most of his supporters. She also says that it's ultimately an issue between Weiner and his family, and it would be a bit silly to overrule her on that point.

Honestly, the problem is that he's married and he keeps doing this.  It would still reflect on his judgement if he was single and was doing it, but he's intentionally hurting his wife (who just had their child) because he can't control his compulsions.  That's not "fun sexy times" - it's just wrong.  This isn't something he is sharing with her, it's something he's hiding from her, and that's an enormous failure on his part.

I am confused about a few things.

1st of all, does this even hurt his chances of becoming mayor of NYC?
2nd, weinerman said more stories are going to come out.  Was Carlos Danger a text series (Graphic Text Novel?)  that occurred before the previous scandal and are only now coming to light?
3rd. I know he's a democrat, which at the very least gives him a 40-50 IQ point advantage over republicans, and it's well-known what I think of republicans, but, I have to ask, are politicians in general this rock solid stupid?  If so, I really need to adjust my baseline perception.

Soup4Bonnie: Virtuoso80: I'm wondering if the world would be a better place if we just accept that it's natural for people to fark around sometimes. It's sex; it's biologically designed to turn even the most enlightened person into a horny, irrational moron in pursuit of it. Let's just accept it and move on.

This isn't about sex.  This is about the character of a man who lies.

Delawheredad:   So what do you make of his attempted bribe of his internet hottie by offering her a condo in Chicago? Even if the sex isn't an issue isn't the fact that was willing to engage in illegality to secure her silence mean anything?

He has bad character and he lies to and attempts to bribe constituents. Do you STILL feel we should just accept it and move on? If attempted bribery doesn't disqualify you for office what does?

I agree, the lying bothers me much more, same as with Clinton, but at the same time I have some sympathy for why they felt they needed to lie about this. I have a strong belief in not selling out my politics for anything, but if some girl threatened to ruin my career with gossip unless I gave her something and denied it? That would be a harder decision, and a separate one. I also think it's naive to believe a good portion of congress hasn't done the same or far worse.

Either way, I think the problem partially gets solved if we, as a society, stop caring so much about what people do with their genitalia.

He never ran on the platform of family values, which makes this new round, to me, irrelevant.  He did get caught in a lie last time and got the shiat smacked out of his career, which is fine.  Dumbass lied.  This time around, no lies, it's between him and his wife, and I am busy spending my actual farks to give on actual issues.

He said he wanted to send that picture to one specific person as a joke. I don't know how sincere this claim is, and frankly I don't particularly care. I'm just making the very basic point that the discussion is no longer about what he actually did, but rather, a counterfactual about what might have happened instead.
