I don't care that the kid is a fan of that other team. I think both sides hope he recovers fully from the cancer.

I'm sure the people in Ohio would do the same if the story was reversed.

it would be cool in a way to see something like that for this kid, except I don't like that team from Ohio and you probably couldn't get Hoke and Meyer to agree to anything like that during the game.

Why?  Is there an Ohio State University out there without a "the" that you're trying to differentiate yourselves from?

Still, very classy move by Hoke.

Speaking of things Wolverines have done for Buckeyes, Rich Rod did one decent thing during his time at Michigan - Brock Mealer

What a bitter bunch some of you UM fans have become over the last decade or so. Take a trip back to the original thread for this story and read up on some the UM backers that were giving a kid fighting cancer hell about this. Or just pretend your side doesn't have some of the same crass losers as everyone else.

2013-07-23 06:45:51 PM
do people in Ohio even like Urban Meyer, aside from his connection to that university?

there's a certain elemental simplicity to Hoke as football coach, which you could dislike because of his school affiliation. the rest is relatively decent, I think. I'm biased in that regard, though.

I never liked Meyer at Florida, and now he's in that place in Ohio. just not a fan of that guy.

Some?  Of course.  When you have as large of a fan base as theirs, you're going to get some of everybody.  The difference, obviously, is that the majority of Ohio State fans are like that.

But way to go undefeated when it doesn't matter.  Seriously.  That's just great.

Meyer is from Ashtabula and went to the University of Cincinnati. First HC job was at Bowling Green. Ohio people love Urban Meyer.

As someone who has never set foot on either campus I'll say fans of both teams are worse than Raiders fans, but at least the Michigan program seems to have a little class.

Yeah, 4th in their division, maybe, if they're fortunate.  To be 4th they'd have to finish ahead of Minnesota (which is somewhat likely) and either MSU or Northwestern (since NE and UM will likely be 1-2 in the Legends).

Um, this.

And there are schools with better fan bases than U of M, certainly.  But Jesus f--king Christ, even my Dad/brother/their football obsessed friends never even approach the vitriol I've seen from The Ohio State fans.  They get worked up on game day and.... then the game ends and who cares.

Dumbass frat boy taunting, sure.  Violent, I haven't either.

Ripping them off for parking... maybe.  But to be fair, we do that to ourselves too.  My Dad refuses to pay for parking and was freaking estatic the year I lived blocks from the stadium and Yost.

/one of the nicest surprises of my life was when a OSU fan saw me and a friend on my porch that year and begged us to let him park in the driveway.  The first half had already started.  We charged him $50

3:03 on the clock, score and quarter helpfully cropped out of the shot... gray sky so possibly crappy weather...  yeah.  It definitely wasn't "yeah, that was a blowout / we're f--ked, in any case, let's leave early and get drunk".

Not really representative of Michigan fans...because the DetNews, Freep and MLive articles have comments where everyone is cheering the kid on and hoping he beats "Michigan."

Oh, and Ohio State fans aren't a rabid and bitter bunch?  Have you been to a Michigan-Ohio State game on enemy turf?  I've been to both home and away games and I will guarantee that Michigan fans are much kinder to Ohio State fans on home turf than Ohio State fans are to Michigan fans.  I have respect for Meyer and the Buckeyes...Ohio State fans...not at all.  Then again, we have more teams in Michigan worth mentioning than Ohio State's football team.
