Those conditions, on that course, under that pressure, in the final round.

I'm thinking it's pretty farking high on the list.

I don't know if I'd call it the best round ever, but his run on the final 6 holes on Sunday was definitely worthy of being called the best finish to a round ever.

Thank you, Phil.

Those rounds will be better than Mickelson's.

//damn impressive showing from him

If only we had seen the round by Phil, but the Excitedly Sucking ( athletes name here, in the is case Tiger Woods) Penis Network had to follow Tiger and watch him sh*t the bed.

A note to Tiger: The fairway is where the grass has been cut. I know you haven't been there in a while, but it's there.

I don't even like playing golf, much less watching it.  Having said that, I lazily landed on the coverage of the final round of the Open on Sunday and it totally held my attention up until it was obvious nobody was going to challenge Mickelson for the win.

I heard that he now averages about 19-20. You know, being dead and all.

Ummmm, nobody's saying it was the "best round ever"....Mickelson's caddy says it's the "best round I've ever seen Phil shoot"......

I once shot 54 at Oakmont.

I woke up when Phil was about to make the turn at 9 and I'm pretty sure ESPN showed every single shot from then on.  They definitely were rooting for Tiger as they always are but Phil definitely got camera time, especially when he caught fire on the back.  The most amazing thing about that round was just how well he was scoring where the rest of the leaders were falling apart, on the last 6 holes.

It was Mickelson's best round, not THE best round ever assmitter.

The two best rounds ever were Miller's 63 and Tiger's 65 in the 3rd round of the 1997 Masters.

I'll qualify my previous comment with I couldn't watch the accompanying video with TFA....so if somebody says it in that, then I defer to subby...

But that's not important right now...

66 on a links course is arguably more difficult than a 63 at Oakmont

Once, at Pebble Beach with Kim Jong-Il, I shot a 36.

Glorious Leader beat me handily with an 18.

would have shot a 41 but you know... taxes...

Too bad I didn't see it live.  FU ESPN for taking MAJOR sporting events to cable live.  I didn't watch the replay on ABC Sports because F*ck you that's why.

Phil the Thrill is literally 100 places lower than Tiger on fairways hit and he took 2nd at the US and 1st at the British Open. 3 of the 5 players above Woods on Sunday are worse in FIR. Adam Scott? Poor. Ian Poulter? Couldn't find a fairway if it had a clownface on it.

So what are you on about?

Have you heard anyone that would be considered a "great golf mind" say anything about Tiger needing to hit more fairways?

The shot that killed him was when he was standing in the middle of the fairway on 17 on Saturday.

This just in: Get used to it. More over-the-air networks are going to move games to cable because they either get better ratings from regular programming or even with strong ratings, they lose money on live sporting events.

A 59 at a regular tour stop doesn't impress me a whole lot.

To be fair, The Open fairway looks a lot like the Masters' rough.

I remember watching that live. I think everyone in the world was rooting for Jack -- including Greg Norman, based on the way he was playing.

But that moment when he walked down the 18th fairway was just electric.

jake_lex: I remember watching that live. I think everyone in the world was rooting for Jack -- including Greg Norman, based on the way he was playing.

It's a pretty common myth that Norman choked in '86.  Yes, he doubled-bogeyed 10, but he birdied 14, 15, 16 and 17 to be tied with Jack going to 18.  From the middle of the fairway, Norman flared his approach into the gallery and made bogey.

It was Seve who really blew it on the back 9.  He held a 1-shot lead standing in the middle of the fairway on 15 (after Nicklaus birdied 16) and promptly pull hooked one into the creek.  Then at 17 he made a mess on the green to knock himself out of contention.

Oakmont vs. a Scottish goat ranch?  Yeah, I'm gonna go with the 66.

Geiberger's was on Friday at the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic (now the Fedex St. Jude Classic, a.k.a. "The tournament the week before the US Open that all the good players stay home and watch on TV"), and he still managed to lose the lead on Sunday.

I thought Lee Westwood was going to make it a nice weekend for British sportsmen, what with Chris Froome* winning the Tour de France, but alas, he had five bogeys and only one birdie on Sunday.

* Yes, Froome was born in Kenya, but he's a British citizen.

Why do I get the feeling that FIGJAM will be even more insufferable 20 years from now with his "66 at Muirfield" schtick than Miller currently is with his "63 at Oakmont" schtick?

As bad as FIGJAM can be, no one can be more insufferable than Miller. It's just not humanly possible.

Used to live in Oakmont, just down the road from the golf course, so I'm getting a kick out of... not having to worry about whether or not I could even get out of my driveway during the tournament.

It's golf, people. You could walk there and still make it in time.

You sir, couldn't be more right.  The US Open is going to be at Oakmont again this decade, I just hope someone shoots a 62 and then stands behind the 18th green waving two middle fingers at the NBC booth.

Johnny Miller, to me, is a Mormon cliche.  Bitter, self-righteous and smug.

I've met very few who don't exemplify those traits.  Pretty odd considering they follow the tenets of a man who was essentially a 19th century used car salesman.

But Miller will be dead, and we'll still be suffering from FIGJAM.

Well, there's your problem right there. Westwood is capable of shooting a course record in Sunday at a major... provided he's not in contention. Put him near the top of the leaderboard, and watch the bogey barrage begin!

Exactly.  Why on Earth would ANYONE think that Westwood would shoot a clutch Sunday round?  From the moment it became clear he was going to sleep on the 54-hole lead, his Sunday 75 was all but assured.
