I dont care how they look as long as they can do the job. Had a boss that would only hire pretty people and they could never do the grunt work because they had a modeling job interview or something.  The only thing worse is an ugly girl that thinks she is popular because she is pretty. No they only like ya cause you blow em in the supply closet.

Perhaps those workers would be treated better if they had some sort of alibi.

I think if you are overly attractive it's also a problem, this model looking dude worked at our office for a short time and all the women claimed he was "arrogant" , I never found the guy to be that at all when dealing with him. But I'm sure 9 times out of 10 people would rather be that guy than a goblin looking farker...

This also just in, ugly people get down faster.

FTA "We find that unattractive individuals are more likely the subject of rude, uncivil and even cruel treatment by their coworkers. And not only do we, as a society, perceive attractive and unattractive coworkers differently, we act on those perceptions in ways that are hurtful," Judge said.

I don't really care about looks, but if you are weird you will definitely be made fun of this office. I've found though that being an oddball is directly proportional to your looks most of the time. Not that their aren't weirdly behaving attractive folk, but we haven't had a single person "kill it with fire" in the looks department who wasn't also a possible stalker/serial rapist/furry fanatic.

Works that way with wimen, too.
I'm not a dog, But I've dated "dogs"  that were nice.
I've dumped models that were not.
Just be nice.

I don't even think it was so cause and effectish, I think they made a judgement based on his looks that he is arrogant because in their minds attractive men are arrogant.

Through digital photos, the workers' "attractiveness" was then judged by others who didn't know them.

So this was a study performed by Marc Zuckerburg?

If you have no reason to be at someone's office and you constantly go out of your way to start a conversation and be flirty while they're trying to work, it's creepy or annoying, depending on your gender.  Either way, you go from nice to polite to get the f*ck away from me.  And if that's arrogant, oh well.

It's not really too surprising that a person who's odd-looking or unattractive, after spending a lifetime being ridiculed and marginalized by others, might develop neurotic or strange behavior as a result.

I'm pretty much ignored, which is how I like it. The downside of it is that the cube-people on either side of me forget I'm here and just chatter away on their phones about anything and everything. The one on the right is a Type-A personality who tells her husband and kids every move to make. The one on the left is an alcoholic and I'm pretty sure she's cheating on her husband.

That's why I wear earbuds on most days and listen to Pandora or iTunesU.

I'm pretty awful looking, but fairly charismatic in the office place. I'm like an office hitler, but with less hate for the jews and a greater love of camps where one is free to focus ones mind on a single task...a "Concentration Camp", if you will.

The reverse of this is true, funny enough.  Friend of mine, extremely attractive & curvy hispanic girl, has been hit on by every male in her organization, married or not.  She hasn't gone for any of them.  Every female employee hates her.  They can't promote her, because favoritism/hostile workplace.  They can't fire her, because sexual harassment.  She's in purgatory.

Well it still works and that guy looks very happy.  I'd also be willing to bet our beers of today beat the snot out of the ones they had when they first invented it...

I'm not sure what your complaint is--do you think the results of the study are so obvious it wasn't worth the trouble to actually study, or do you believe that unattractive people aren't in fact treated poorly by others?

This amuses me, since the ugliest meanest biatch in my workplace recently got a promotion.

2013-07-23 04:20:48 PM
That's why I work in offices full of ugly people.  It's pretty unavoidable in my industry though :P.  The problem arises when the one or two attractive people get hired.  Everyone fawns over the good looking guy (seeing as I'm often times the only woman it's generally guys who treat him like the most awesome guy ever).  Or a hot girl sneaks in (very rare) and everyone treats her like royalty to the point that she doesn't even have to work and then she is the first one promoted.

/Okay, the hot girl thing only happened once.  Better believe all those guys up her butt hated her after that.

We had tio fire a guy in March for being unable to control himself around women. You would think he was a damn dog. A new good looking woman would start and he could somehow sniff them out and he would be at their desk asking them if they needed help setting up or any supplies. He got fired after he hit on the same married woman twice. The first time they warnned him and then 5 months later they fired him. Only reason he didnt get into a lot of trouble the first time was because they boss was lazy and didnt follow proper procedures.

Rex Kramer - Danger Seeker: This article seems to suggest that it's better to be good looking than be bad looking. If this is true, then this seems like a real game changer.

Research shows that it's best to be slightly better than average but not too much so. The thing about being an extreme outlier (in a desirable direction) is that one has to deal with many false positives. People who are only attracted to one for their looks, or just for sex, or even worse the people who assume that because one is attractive one must also be competent. I've known people who actively work at being "weird"  or "normal" simply because it keeps the riff-raff away. Kinda sad but understandable.
