These guys are still a thing????
Hell I saw them on the flightline doing a USO show at Kadena AB in Okinawa Japan in 1985.

Why are there two stories in a row on the main page that belong in the entertainment tab only?

The theft was reported to a Drove of Piggies.

Despite whether or not you like the band, that's some pretty cold hearted shiat.  Anytime someone steals musician's instruments (I'm not talking the sound system here).  That's the way these guys earn a living and you just stole that from them.  F-ing bastards.

The lead singer is bald now.  Which was kind of shocking when I saw this on the news last night.

Don't attribute to malice that which can be explained by drunkenness.

Whether you like them or not, they're touring in a 14 year old van and staying at Comfort Inns. Sounds like me when I was younger. I doubt they have $70k to replace all that stuff.

But as for the guy storing 18 months of work on two hard drives, with no other backup anywhere? Especially in this day and age of cloud storage?

2013-07-23 03:23:56 PM
Couple of things... New Wave still sucks, if you've got $70,000 worth of anything in a van from 1999 invest $200 in an alarm system, back up your computer files on a regular basis, and their only hit song was from 1982? I'd tell you to get off my lawn, but I think I stopped watering it 30 years ago.

2013-07-23 03:24:13 PM
Why don't you tell Jules where the shiat's hid at?

2013-07-23 03:24:25 PM
"The band-best known for the 1982 hit "I Ran (So Far Away)"- parked their vehicle in the parking lot of Comfort Inn around 1:45 a.m. after they got back from a show in Bellflower."

Oh how the mighty have fallen

d23: I had no idea they were still touring.

Pretty sure it's not the original lineup - just Mike Score and a bunch of sidemen.  That's how it was when they toured in the mid-'90s.

/saw them play at a Cleveland bar - Score had a goatee and a ball cap and was looking like the Granddaddy of Grunge

2013-07-23 03:25:29 PM
FTFA: "It's 18 months work. My first-ever solo project...it may be just thrown in the bin by somebody," said Score.

They scored Score's score.

(Let's hope he saved data as redundantly.)

You know, I thought about the Hero tag.  But I'm saving that for the day someone steals Metallica's gear so that they can ~never~ perform again.

MFAWG: The Sex Pistols got their start by stealing Bowies equipment.

I think it was Bob Marley's guitar.  Or maybe both.  But I know Johnny Rotten hid in some ceiling and waited for all of them to leave, he was some roadie back then for them iirc.

Barely.  If you call working out of a 14 year old van and staying at the Comfort Inn "a thing".  That's the kind of place  I would stay.  Pathetic.

This is why I always took the gear I could not live without, and brought it to my room. Otherwise, it was sleeping in the van, truck, ditch... very near my gear.

...anyway, it's still sad that old dude lost his work.

Seriously

If you want a SUPER low cost solution buy a cell phone with GPS tracking (turn on some app like find my friends or the google app that does the same thing) and just leave it hidden under the dash in the van and install an extra plug so it charges when the car is turned on.

Also NEVER leave stuff you can't replace in the van loaded with $70,000 worth of equipment.

I'm betting they will get their shiat back when the thief tries to fence it.

True story:  A couple of years ago, Drivin' and Cryin' had the same thing happen to them in Macon GA.  The less than smart thieves came up to Doraville and tried to fence the stuff at a well known pawn shop.  The same pawn shop that had sold the band the gear in the first place.  Clerk on duty recognized the mikes and amps and invited the police in on the transaction.

Band was back on the road the next day.

Well that's just sad right there. I liked them back in the day and bought their cassettes (kids, that was the most popular music format at the time). Now they're traveling in an old van, performing at free shows, and staying at Comfort Inns.

Exactly.  Not a fan of the music, but you steal a musician's tools, DIAF scumbags..

THIS.

I've had equipment stolen & I know who did it, a lowlife who actually was a musician. If I ever see him again I'll break all his fingers.
