At least he knew he had fire in his future.

We had one of those in our county. He would hang around the local ERs and steal gear and equipment one piece at a time off the ambulances and pumpers that would bring patients in and/or come to pick up the extra firefighters that rode in on our rigs.

The only reason he was caught was because he brought the jump bag he stole up to the fire station, and asked the on-duty Paramedic if this was good for someone starting EMT school. Which had every ACLS drug in the book in it.

They couldn't prove it, but they also suspected him of being the one that was setting dumpster fires and calling 911 to report them.

Library fire.  On the one hand, all those books on fire.  On the other, those librarians.  I bet it was hot in there.

He was laying a bon fire, and someone else lit it before he had a chance to.

If we didn't make every firefighter and policeman achieve hero status just by doing their jobs maybe we wouldn't have so many wannabes.

He just wanted to show how ambitious he was. He'll bring his own gear, he'll bring his own fire.

Amateur. Our "I want to be a firefighter so I started fires" idiot started a dozen fires (with more charges pending).

It's okay though a bunch of people showed up to support him.

The added "yeah, sometimes I was sexually aroused by the fires" really put a nice Montana cherry on the top of the arson.

Considering subs just copied the first sentence of the story if you came up with something original it probably was better.

Hey, now. It's not plagiarism if you stick the age in the middle of the sentence.

That one number turned it into a literary masterpiece!

I think it's because those are the big two career options for little boys in kindergarten. Anyone who still wants to be one as an adult is just a bit slow, developmentally.

/You wanna be a fireman? What are you, three? Get a life.

I remember this kinda kid in high school, the awkward and geeky type. Some wore ROTC BDU's almost every day, others were training to be firemen before even setting foot in a classroom.
Its not hard getting into a firefighters academy here in central FL, problem is trying to complete it - the physical side is extremely demanding and I've seen dozens fail it (I was there just as an observer), Police academy was far easier from what I saw.
However you could clearly pick out the one or two geeks that were not simply going to finish the course, some of them had firefighter stickers on their cars, had all the gear while most of the training guys didn't have anything.

/I took the 3 floor challenge, where you carry a hose up 3 flights then grab a dummy that weighed 150lbs, bring it back down, go back up and grab the hose and bring it back down, cant remember my time but I about died after getting down
//Yes I do feel special, even though that was one of the easier challenges they had lol

the wannabees are almost always someone who tried but was so obviously unstable that the departments woudn't touch them.
kinda like zimmerman and the cops.

some people just have to go and live the dream on their own.

well, we all know the ones in blue generally are, but most firefighters i have met are actually pretty sharp.

you have to have your head on straight and have some training and knowledge to do a firefighting job, so they take care weed out the slow and unstable ones - which is where we get cops from.
