X-Men: The Last Stand? Never heard of it. I'm pretty sure it never happened.

FTFA:   The "Future" Part ofX-Men: Days Of Future Past

In this movie, everybody's got their powers back and Patrick Stewart is still Professor X. So we're assuming either they're going to handwave all of that, or just pretend the third movie never happened.

It will all get retconned in the Age of Apocalypse movie anyway.

Apparently The Wolverine has Logan having nightmares. Of killing Jean Grey. So it happened, bub.

Ya know, it's fashionable to hate on Last STand, and, while it is certainly not my favorite X-Men movie, it's not the horrible movie that everyone paints it as.

Also:

Mentat: It will all get retconned in the Age of Apocalypse movie anyway.

Good GOD does this need to happen. I was REALLY into comics when that line started and had...maybe half of the series complete and a good third of the rest. Actually...I STILL have them. Booya.

Or the whole thing was Logan's nightmare, and Bobby will step out of the shower at any moment.

No, it was horrible. So horrible we choose to pretend it never happened.

Wayy too stupid to even go into. I won't bother trying. Just go read the dark pheonix saga comics and you'll understand.

Book it, done. Everything that happened in X3 never happened and was just Wolverine's dream.

So which aspect of that do you find LESS confusing?

Jean Gray having sacrificed herself to save everyone she knew?

THAT Jean having been a clone, and the real Jean being in a cocoon under the ocean?

There being a clone of Jean that Scott fell in love with?

The Phoenix Force being a sentient demi-god bent on destroying reality?

I mean, come on. If you're going to critcize the movie, at least give me something concrete.

Like I said, it's not a great movie. It's BARELY a good movie. But it's nowhere near as bad as people think it is.

What would a non-sentient demi-god be like? Like a super large tree that could produce a tremendous amount of fruit? A rock that can only be smashed by a full fledged god? Bacteria resistant to every known antibiotic?

Good things in X3: Grammer as Beast, Danger Room is seen, tortured youth of Angel, Cyclops' cool shades, Prof X dies (not perfect but needs to happen in an X-men trilogy), Wolverine forced to kill Jean, Grammer as Beast.

You have to admit though that he did make a great Beast.

Oh, absolutely. I was going for a Blazin' Saddles reference, though.

This list is pretty pointless when it doesn't even point out the pretty obvious inconsistencies, like Xavier being crippled at the end of First Class and falling out with Magneto, yet being able to walk and still working with Magneto in the flashback to first meeting Jean in X-3.

And yes, X-3 was horrible for a number of reasons, including directing, directly taking dialogue from a youtube video that was popular at the time, a plot with mutants being OK with a "cure" following the film that blatantly went with the mutant as homosexuality analogy, and even attempting to do the Phoenix storyline.  It was just a mess.

Since Rogue had a lot of focus in the first two films I kind of wondered why they didn't think to go with the taking Ms. Marvel's powers storyline, it would have been way more interesting than pushing her to the side with jealousy issues and getting rid of her powers.

Most of what you wrote here is not part of the Dark Phoenix Saga.  The Saga runs through the Phoenix's original death in Uncanny X-Men #137.  What you wrote was the stuff that later writers wrote to ret-con her back into comics, specifically to get the "original X-Men lineup" for X-Factor.  As far as Shooter/Byrne/Clairmont were concerned, Jean died in #137.

/still wants a Dark Phoenix movie
//still pissed, as that's what Singer wanted for X3

you know what grinds my gears?

an x-men trilogy, prequel, and wolverine movie and the only sentinel appearance was from a danger room sequence.

/also, Magneto wasn't fully depowered: the ending of X3 showed him starting to move metal again.

And somebody had a one-night stand with Strong Guy? Willingly?

Logan is a slut and that doesn't even cover everything. I'm pretty sure there should be a flirt line from Deadpool to him and a one-way infatuation between Shadowcat to him.

OK, so am I the only one here for who that article was a waste of time? I pretty much followed all of the time jumps, and wasn't really confused about any of this. Although 'Last Stand' and 'Origins'weren't great, I think that for the most part, they've done a good job with the films, and part of it is the time jumping, it allows them to pick and choose which parts of the Universe to cover, and they still(for the most part) don't break canon.

I just need to know which of these films I have to have seen to understand the new Wolverine movie

2013-07-23 04:01:54 PM
To add to the confusion, Days of Future Past was the title of a crossover that centered on Franklin Richards and Rachel Summers.

What really bothered me is the major anachronisms involving Professor X.  In the Wolverine Origins film, it shows him still able to walk, yet we see Emma Frost as a teenager.  He's also able to walk when he and Magneto meet Jean Grey.  I feel like X-Men: First Class was the best of those movies, but it strays from the timelines already set up by the preceding ones.   Which timeline are we supposed to follow?

Read the comics sometime.  Guy's up and walking, then back in the wheelchair like every five years.

Yeah, they show him playing chess in the park and moving a piece with his powers.

Remember Stan Lee's cameo in The Avengers? He's playing chess in the park, and says something like, "superheroes in New York?"

I like to think he's playing chess with Magneto and it's a little nod from the MCU to Fox, sort of a "we can work together here, guys" moment.

Kind of hard to do without Ms. Marvel. As much of an honorary X-man Carol is, I'm pretty sure Marvel still has the movie rights there

Why do people still try to defend these movies?  It's like the X-movies landed at your feet, a bloody, butchered, mangled mess, so you put it on your head and say "This is a nifty hat!"  It is not.  It is neither nifty, nor a hat.  It is a mangled, bloody, butchered mess.  Just leave it alone, please.  The carrion will remove every trace of it over time.

/I'm not sure which is stronger:  My hate of the Fox X-movies, or my love of hating the Fox X-movies....
