The first video was funny. The second not so much. Some idea are only meant to go so far.

That was just some Hanna-Barbera-quality Star Trek animation set to clips from Archer that were funnier in their original context.

:\

Why does FX almost completely shelf Archer immediately after they are done with the season? Not enough episodes to syndicate? It drives me to want to download season 4 when I'd be just as happy to shut up and give them my money for the DVD set...

My rule of thumb has always been. If you aren't willing to sell me a piece of your intellectual property, then I'm just going to "steal" it instead.  Of course the word steal here isn't really correct as I record all those shows legally so when I get them again off the net it's not like I'm doing anything that I couldn't have retrieved in a legal manner.

I literally just started watching this show last night. The one where they need to dispose of a body in the boss-lady's apartment. And in walks this 'Krieger' fellow...

Haven't laughed that hard since I first watched the Venture Bros.

I just started watching it too on netflix. Not sure if my favourite is Malory Archer or Cheryl/Carol. I am almost done season 1 and it is getting more and more hilarious as it goes along. Plus I love the running jokes they seem to use.

Well, right off the bat I assume you are a completely moral person and have never so much as downloaded a song or eaten a grape from the grocery store.  I also assume you have never sung the song "happy birthday" as that is copyrighted.

No, it's not twisted logic at all.  I am legally allowed to make recordings from TV channels that I pay to have beamed into my home.  I have been granted a limited license for that media.  If I delete that show from my Tivo and then later retrieve it via another means, then I may be violating the letter of the law but it takes a major stickler for copyright law to say that I'm really stealing anything.  If it makes you feel better, let's say that I only download shows that exist on my Tivo, and then I delete the Tivo copy right away.  Truly I am a horrible thief.

I agree, I've always thought it was weird that they never show any reruns of their most popular show. If this was Comedy Central they'd re-run it later that evening, the next evening, over the weekend, etc.

I have never downloaded a song without paying for it. I use Amazon. I have never eaten a grape in a grocery store. I sing "Happy Birthday to You" several times a year, but I have never done so in a public performance where I was not covered by an ASCAP license. That is all beside the point. Just because I may have a fault or two does not disallow me from point out really twisted reasoning when I see it.

It wasn't so much the second part of your statement I found twisted as much as the first:  "My rule of thumb has always been. If you aren't willing to sell me a piece of your intellectual property, then I'm just going to "steal" it instead. " The owner of a work should have the right to choose how, when, and if their work is released. If Prince doesn't want to release all those albums he has recorded and shelved at Paisley Park, by your logic you should be allowed to break in(ninja like so as no physical damage is done) and make copies of all his works.

Fair enough. I really only halfway believe that.

I guess for me it's more about the reason why they aren't selling me the media.  Is it because they are trying to abuse the market and fix prices or have special contracts? Then yeah, I don't particularly mind stealing in that case. If it was something to do with the artist not wanting to distribute something (like maybe the star wars Christmas special ) then I would play along.

If there is a show that I want to purchase but the studio won't release it because selling just 10k DVDs won't be profitable, then I really don't mind taking the matter into my own hands.  I'm sure many people would agree with me.  I have money, I would like to purchase an item that you can sell me without actually losing the item yourself.  Take my money farkers.

The last 3 Archer season DVDs have all been released around christmas.
I'm assuming season 4 will be released around the same time this year.

2013-07-23 11:43:24 AM
That is the thing they are selling the show. You can buy all four season on ITUNES right now.

As for the delay in the Blu-ray(dvd really is this the farking dark ages?) I would expect it has to do more with the speical features that they add that make it worth paying for. That takes time to make.

I'm with  nocturnal001 on this one.  I subscribe to Netflix and Hulu, and spend lots of per-episode/per-rental dollars on Vudu and Amazon.  But if a cable show I want to watch isn't available through those or some other a la carte source, it's my small act of black market civil disobedience to consume that content anyway.  It doesn't increase the creator's marginal costs, but it sends the message that I and others like me won't be forced to keep spending $150/mo for cable when I have no interest in 95% of the content.  $50/month for that 5% is a good deal for content creators, and the market is slowly forcing that reality upon them.  Comcast still gets another $50/mo for my internet connection.

I also don't consider it theft when I download something that I've paid for in the past.  Or when I download an old move that simply isn't available to buy, rent, or stream through some commercial means.
