It's going to take a few more years for the population shift to kick the gerrymandering in the nuts.  In the mean time they have to worry about hanging on to the Senate.  Not that I think the Senate in a huge amount of danger this cycle.

2013-07-23 09:48:01 AM
Unlikely: Dems got over one million more votes in the house but since it's been gerrymandered beyond any semblance of a representative organisation that doesn't matter anymore.

WTF was that? We're supposed to have a conversation based on a three sentence piece with no analysis or background? Why bother with links? Just green some random headlines and shout Go!

Okay then: the Dems will take over everything, Scalia and Alito and Thomas will resign for personal reasons and will be replaced by more serious and judicial judges. We will pass a budget. YAY! We will start fixing our infrastructure which will also employ thousands of Americans. We will stop forcing the Pentagon to purchase things they don't want. And I will never run out of gin or bacon.

How'd I do?

Gerrymandering is a problem, but both sides do it.

This is my Congressional district in Maryland. Gerrymandered by Democrats.

The status quo will remain. Dems will lose a few more seats in the Senate and the Democrats might pick up a few house seats. But nothing will change.  Anyone that says it will is after money for a PAC or a pundit looking to get paid early.

Yeah, the turds in the Ohio GOP managed to somehow give Cleveland and Toledo the same district. Say what you want, but they're two totally different cities. I used to be in Kaptur's district and she was awesome. Now I'm in some turd Tea retard's district.

While this is true, given that the republicans retained the house with one million or so less votes than the dems it is currently completely irrelevant with regards to our miserable failure to successfully conduct a democratic election.

It's time to put down the bottle Nancy.

They can't win the House. I think the generic ballot needs to be something like 57-43 Dems for them to break through the gerrymandering. Has there been any polling on this yet?

You're allowed to have more than one city in a district. And if you don't like your rep then you know, vote.

That's a little unfair. Take for example NC. A good 30% of the people vote for 70% of the representatives. See the other 70% of the population where people actually live get more than enough representatives from the left over.

Disagreement != Disarray.

Unlike the left, the GOP voters don't care if there are differing opinions in the party.

Pelosi had a better chance in 2012 and she failed at that too.

Well, due to gerrymandering and natural overweighting of representation in the low-population Republican-leaning plains states, the Democrats would need a 57%-43% popular vote victory to get a 50%+1 majority in the House.

It's been done before, and Pelosi's no fool.
