according to the article subby, you get 8 inches

However, in the U S:

Rail service halted after women becomes trapped
Rail service in Chicago ground to a halt after a woman became trapped between the platform and the car. She remained there until the Fire Department, Metra Officials, Union Pacific Technicians, That Guy Carl and Mayor Not Daley surveyed the scene and offered suggestions.

"We had to shut down the whole system," says a Metra spokesman. "Everything had to stop until this poor woman was extracted. Metra, Amtrak, the El. Everything stopped."

Hindering recovery efforts were 4000 lawyers who all wanted to take her case. They were driven off by having ambulances roll by the scene with their sirens going.

The woman, who was allegedly drunk, stoned on marijuana and overdosing on Goof Balls slipped between the station platform and the rail car. "She was on her way to detox and church when the event happened," claims attorney Leach Sharkstien. "The city, the railroad, Metra are all complicit in this travesty. "No amount of money will ease her trauma but we're gonna see that she gets a lot of it anyways."

So what's the moral of the story, Unca Infernalist?  Is that why there are no more wild trains roaming the Midwest, and the few that are left are hauling passengers for human masters?

Shut up, jimmy.  I told your mother to get rid of you before you were born, you ill-bred spider monkey.

On the off-chance that you're legitimately stupid and not trolling, I'll explain it in simpler terms.

A less-social species wouldn't care about its individual members as much, but it's that social aspect that enables this species to work together to accomplish things that individuals could never do alone.

Now, get away from me, you stink of sweat and vaseline.

According to TFA, the woman fell in up to her waist. Wow.

I don't understand why such a large gap, either.

Leave the personal insults to the woman out of it.  You don't know her sexual history.

To quote the Metropolitan Railway: Mind the gap!

Kudos to the can do attitude of the Japanese masses.

Mind you, I can't help suspecting that they did it because otherwise the trains would have been late.

But I'll take enlightened self-interest over inaction or malice any day. In New York, somebody would have been rooting for the train.

You forgot the part where onlookers tweeted their reactions and pictures of the trapped woman.
