An expensive gift is the norm for royal births

Its tradition and it should be upheld as it begets goodwill.

The more money he spends the better IMO

Look at that son of a biatch, buying infants chairs like he owns the place.

Yes, I think a nickle is too much.  Honestly, the monarchy is a blight on modern society.  Its the Brit's problem, but we shouldn't be encouraging it.

Once you factor in the transportation, security, etc. for his trip down to Babys-R-Us, it cost the American taxpayer over 2.3 Brazillion dollars.

Meanwhile, in the farking article, one might note that subby was referring to the amount spent by Ronald and Nancy Reagan on a gift for the newborn Prince William.

Not that we expect you farks to read anything.

Baby Einstein videos predate the Little Einsteins show, though both are produced by the same company (and owned by Disney).

I honestly don't give two farks about the royal baby and how much we waste on the little turd that will never have to work a day in his life. The less the better. They'll get the fark over it. It's not like they'll get prissy and won't help us needlessly invade the next country that has a shiat ton of oil and vulnerable leader

Did someone in the royal family rape a family member of yours?

Not hostile at all. I just find it stupid to worry about how much and how expensive we gift the royal family

While they didn't "have" to work (they actually do have to), the little dude's father and (particularly) uncle have worked a couple of days in their lives.

Well, when you combine it with a trillion dollar per day trip to India and a gazillion dollar a day  Christmas .... err  "Happy Holiday" .... vacation in Hawaii it all begins to add up.

Not to mention the millions we're spending on dijon mustard, craft microbrews and arugula.

We need to stay in he Brits good graces.  They're one of the largest consumers of the few things America still manufactures and exports to the world, mainly crappy entertainment content and generic business marketing/sales bullshiat.

He should do one of those trillion dollar trips in teh good old US of A, then at least he'd be benefiting the our economy instead spreading the US's wealth around the world.

I'm against Obama buying the royal brat anything, but that's because I hate children.  I once told a woman that I was dating, who wanted to one day have kids, that if I were a father I would celebrate Boxing Day with the kids.  She asked what that was, I said that it was the day after Christmas and the staff and family they served traded places.  I said that I would keep the day after Christmas part, but change the boxing part to having the kids box up their new toys to be returned to the store so I could get a full refund to buy me something incredibly awesome.  I then explained how Boxing Day would be the one day that would be better than Christmas since I would get something totally awesome for myself and spread misery to children.

I don't know why it didn't work out with her...

He's paying fealty to British royalty! This is illegal under the Article of Confederation and therefore he loses his US citizenship and Chief Justice John Roberts is automagically President

2013-07-23 11:54:41 AM
Why don't we just give the little brat a 0bummer Phone and call it a day?

I hope he spends a dollar amount to where the right-wing pundits simultaneously complain it's far too little and far too much.

2013-07-23 12:29:12 PM
Ahem... adjusted for inflation, it has to be at least an $1800 gift. But what do you buy for a royal brat? He's already got everything, including a 25 inch high baby's chippendale chair. They never throw anything away.

2013-07-23 12:38:48 PM

wildcardjack: But what do you buy for a royal brat?

Probably something semi-perishable, like a doll/teddy bear.  Or a rattle with some inter-nation signifigance, like being made from WWII scrap, that can easily transition into the V&A collection.

At boarding school in Scotland during the early 1980s, I had an English teacher who was so excited to tell us he'd purchased a Teasmaid (like a coffee maker with an analog clock but it makes tea instead) as a wedding  present for Charles & Diana.

Now I despise Royals but, even if I didn't, WTF? It's not like they were actually a) going to receive it b) send a thank you note and/or c) acknowledge your foolishness in any way. The silly old fark thought he'd get an invite to the Royal Garden Party.

/I attended said party 15 years later

I would argue that if this kid becomes Prince of Wales and then King he would be essentially be doing the exact opposite and working every day of his life. I have seen a few documentaries about the Queen and she is basically working in service of her country all the time. And she has been doing this job (a job she didn't get to chose I might add) for 60 years, and she will continue to do that job until she dies. I can't think of any other 87 year old people who have jobs like that.

Why?  It would more accurately describe the American people.  Cheap, disposable, and mostly garbage.

Heh, don't biatch at me.. I am not the one that makes these dollar stores / walmart / and other junk stores thrive.  I am not the one who supports Chinese, Indonesian, Taiwanese "Craftschildren".  Saving up to purchase high quality, custom local craftsmanship is the way to go.

Smeggy Smurf: How about a thank you card for popping out another welfare leech?

Fun fact - the royal family are actually not leeches. King George III allowed a majority of the royal properties to be held in trust by the country. For every dollar the state spends on the royal family in any year, the treasury makes 4-5 dollars on their property holdings. As long as they are monarchs the state comes out ahead financially. If they took their trust and stepped down the country would lose hundreds of millions a year.
