No Save opportunity in an 11-0 shutout.
Still a great play.

Hard to blow a save when you're up 11 runs, Subby, but I like the headline anyway.

This is how you follow up a no hitter.

I just assumed "blows the save" meant that he mucked up the catch (referred to earlier in the headline as "saves a shutout"), and then recovered the ball, thereby "complet[ing] the shutout".

Also, Arroyo appears to have pitched the entire game, which makes it even more difficult for a pitching 'save opportunity' to've been blown.

I haven't seen a Reds outfielder steal a home run since...jeez, Eric Davis and Dave Parker in the 80's. I'm sure Griffey has had to have done it, but I can't remember.

Here's Bruce robbing McCutchen on June 19.

Incorrect - you can earn a save if you pitch at least 3 innings (7th, 8th, 9th), you're not the winning pitcher, and you were the last pitcher of record for the team that won the game.

I think someone picked up a save in that ridiculous 30-3 game in Baltimore a couple years ago.

Can you get a save in a complete game?

Arroyo threw a CG last night.

Wes Littleton got the save in that game

It's been established the "save" in the headline is not what MLB calls a Savetm in the record books.

I dunno about that Bruce one...I'm thinking more along the lines of a classic pulled-it-back-over-the-fence move. I saw Parker do it at Shea ages ago.

I've never liked that part, It should be more like "if you pitch at least n/3 innings, where n = number of runs the team leads by when the pitcher comes into the game"

Um.

If the ball hits the top of the fence (and it looks like it might and the play by play guy actually says "and it hits the top of the fence"), then isn't that a "no catch" and the ball is live?

Or would we then just chalk it up to another blown call and another argument for why replays are inevitably coming to slow down an already glacial game pace?

Cool. Always liked Bronson. Wish he was still in Boston.

Except it never hit the fence - if you watch the replay at 1:04, he catches the ball just behind the fence, but it pops out of his glove as he pulls his glove back over the fence; then he catches it with his left hand before it hits the ground.

Ahh, a pair of former Royals.  Always liked Derrick and am glad he is getting a shot.  Unfortunately we already had Derrick's twin with Dyson.

They had a hot streak.  They won like 2 in a row.  It was amazing.  It can only go downhill from there this season.
