Weaver95: why in the hell does Monsanto need a gotdamn private army!?

Because FARK YOU, that's why.

Seriously, one of the most evil companies in the world just bought its own legion of Christian fascist mercenaries. Apparently they plan to take all farmland in the U.S. by force. Pricks.

They are just preparing for the coming proletariat revolt.

2013-07-22 05:37:39 PM
So basically, the Empire just bought Weyland-Yutani?

Well that's just farking great.

2013-07-22 05:40:26 PM
Mercenaries are scum.

2013-07-22 06:05:19 PM
Well, peak food IS coming.

I'm curious about the U.S. laws that govern this sort of thing. Do we have federal laws describing limits of armaments that "sellswords" can own and operate?

2013-07-22 06:12:05 PM
Oh good, this frees up one of my pointing fingers.

There used to be, but I think the party of small government pretty much dismantled them.

I am still wracking my brains trying to figure out what legitimate reason there would be for Monsanto to own a bunch of armed thugs...

2013-07-22 06:19:53 PM
well, this is the most terrifying news i've heard in a while.

/i really need to re-read The Windup Girl

still wracking brains...not coming up with a legit reason for this move by Monsanto.  amoral ruthless biotech firm buys amoral ruthless mercenary company and....yeah, that's where my brain veers off into weirdness.  there has to be some sort of valid, normal non-conspiracy theory reason for this move but I can't see it.

They're a product. Monsanto will contract them out all over the world. It's just business.

Also, their OCP Division expects to need them in Detroit soon.

2013-07-22 06:25:53 PM
There is nothing about this on Bloomberg.  I have my doubts.

2013-07-22 06:26:12 PM
No, no they didn't BUY Blackwater.  That doesn't mean they don't hire them for security, though.

Lots of government money, that's why.  Contractors allow you to enlarge the government while claiming that you are for smaller government, undermine unions and funnel money to your supporters all at the same time.

It's like a win win win!

It's because the French won't use MON-810 voluntarily. Monsanto is pretty transparent.

You know how Google's motto is "Don't be evil"? Monsanto's is the opposite.

I think the conspiracy theories will be more fun.  Monsanto wants to make a bigger move into Africa, but growing all of those tasty crops amongst so many starving people means that they're going to need some protection for the fields.

So we've officially crossed into comic book level evil organization territory now.

Virtucon would be proud

Did you actually read that ranting post?  He eventually got to the point where he admitted there's no proof that Monsanto bought Blackwater because that's what they want us to think.

Also, Bill Gates is in on it, because Microsoft and Monsanto are in cahoots to start wars all over the world via the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

I guess they might be getting prepared for marijuana legalization...

Maybe some CEO has a fetish for this kind of thing. Like buying a baseball team or something for the ego.

Perfectly legal for them to do, but I also cannot fathom anything good coming out of this. Can we apply federal anti-trust laws to companies that acquire too many evil subsidiaries?

Maybe one is OK, but if they try to buy EA they'll have to divulge the location of their secret volcano base so that UN inspectors can make sure the nuclear laser sharks aren't being mistreated.

Have you heard about the mining company in Wisconsin putting armed mercenary types around their property?

Mosanto did not buy Blackwater FBmitter. They do hire them - which is creepy on its own but they did not, in fact, buy them as a quick google search would tell you.

I should have invested in tin foil.

according to tfl you supplied, they hired them to infiltrate? WTF

Why don't they just buy Walmart, Goldman Sachs, NAMBLA and the Westboro Baptist Church and then go collectively die in a fire?

/hell, take Comcast with you.

US farmland, no.

Africa and Asia (big markets for Round-up resistant corn)? Absolutely.

Is Monsanto to getting ready to "market" their GM-water? The testing phase must be closer, or the final solution is being readied for the roll-out.
