Could be worse.  Could be *NUCLEAR* weapons.

Those crazy Nazis. Leaving their ammunition laying around like that. And THEY used to complain about France not cleaning up their battlegrounds. Huh.

30C (86F) is hot enough to make your ammo spontaneously combust?!

Do you realize how painful it is to trip over all of those rifles?

Hectares? how many Gous is that? Maybe you can tell us in a twip or a jansky...something we American can understand.

No 30C is not hot enough to cook off ammunition or concealed carry in southern states would really suck.

The only thing that can stop fires shooting bullets is firefighters with guns.

Why not, might be the perfect thing to strap a giant metal plow on the front and make a clearing for a fire break

I was going to say, "Pirate monkeys", but that'll work too.

FTA: Dade "Zero Cool" Murphy, 11, is arrested and charged with crashing 1,507 systems in one day and causing a single-day seven-point drop in the New York Stock Exchange.

OH NOES!!! SEVEN POINT DROP!! With the market lately, I'd say that's slipping on a banana peel and landing in a pot of palladium!

No... They've had this problem before. Best place to be when ammo is cooking off is over the hill, but if you can't then being in something designed to take a few hits would be reassuring.

That's nothing. Once, I walked barefoot through MOLTEN LAVA while suspending a stick of dynamite over my head. I had cayenne peppers rubbed into my eyes and a hot plate on my belt.

They all thought I was crazy. Though If they ever asked me why I did it I would turn their way and whisper, "I do it because of INFERNO.  INFERNOOO--- !"

I doubt they ran an Abrams out there. But they most likely ate using the tank as a mobile small-arms barrier.

Raging Thespian: And this isn't a movie yet why?

Are we talking a Sharknado-like movie, where the abandoned bullets fuse to fireproof ants' backs who learn how to use the fire/bullet combination to kill their sworn firefighter enemies?  Or is this just a Michael Bay production where stuff blows up and Shia LaBoeuf is in it so you hope he dies?

It would be "can help stop" or "can help to stop", "can help stopping" sounds awkward enough to have made me check out your profile. Your English is a lot better than many Americans I know. In your profile though it should be "choose" instead of "chose" and there should be an "and" between "dick" and "make."

As for your comment, this is very true. My best friend's father was the chief of the fire department in my town and he attended specialized training where they learned to extinguish burning oil wells with tools like robots with dynamite and even mortars. Uses up all the oxygen and snuffs it out. Pretty neat stuff.

Hey, do we have a WWII German leftovers trifecta in play?

Given that it's in Brandenburg (the state surrounding Berlin, i.e. former GDR territory), it could also be Cold War crap from the East German military or the Soviets.

So which is worse:  fighting a fire in this raging heat, or fighting one in the upper midwest in February with ice sheets breaking off the building and bombing you?  Seems like both are pretty horrible.

I've no idea what temperatures are needed, but that's air temperatute in the shadow.
Put some unearthed dark colored metal containers into direct sunlight for hours an they'll be a lot hotter.

Given that it's in a training area next to a former Soviet kaserne, it's probably Russian commie ammo.

40+ years of Soviet occupation, the gift that keeps on giving. They probably just ditched their shiat when they hightailed it outta there.

And this is what a German firefighting tank looks like.

When i did that job at CFB Gagetown we had an m113 with a water tank on top. Never did see a round cook off, but fighting fire with live ammo lying around made me a tad nervous.

A controlled burn might be a good way of detonating the ammo.
