Vin Diesel shouldn't even play Hulk or Thing, being that he sounds too retarded to play either of them.

Meh, Black Panther never struck me as a great character.  His background is sort of interesting in that he's not a traditional hero, but he doesn't really do anything that another character can't already do.  He's a super fighter...but so is Captain America.  He's really smart, but so is Tony Stark.  He has vibranium tipped claws that can cut through almost anything...but Wolverine's got the lock on that.  And his costume is very reminiscent of Batman, though the more modern, armored look from Iron Man Adventures has grown on me:

x.annihil.us

This version also has some super powers that the usual version doesn't...well...sometimes doesn't have.

I'd be much more interested in a Luke Cage movie if we're talking about black superheroes.  Or a stand alone War Machine movie, because that would be cool.  Or a Fearless Defenders movie with Misty Knight (she's all sorts of awesome).

But, if I were to have my wish of any Marvel character to have a movie made of them, and director as well, I'd have a Moon Knight movie directed by David Lynch.  Because goddamn would that rock, and it needs to be Lynch level bizarre.  That or a Next Wave movie, but that would be too epic to ever exist.

I'm fine with him in most movies. He shouldn't have even read the script for The Pacifier, let alone made the movie, but most of his stuff is actually pretty fun. Action stars are supposed to be a little dumbed down, most of the time, we don't want them quoting Hamlet while simultaneously solving quantum physics problems and kicking the bad guy's ass... Diesel is good at this, like and action star should be. It bothers me a little that Cage was Black, but the Kingpin has always been white, as has Nick Fury, so I guess they can fark up whatever they want. If the movie is made as well as Marvel has been making their movies lately, it would probably only be an issue for the first 5 minutes.

Unless, as someone pointed out, he utters "Sweet Christmas!"...

No, see, the only way Luke Cage would ever work is if it's made as a homage to 1970s Blaxploitation films, and set in 1972.

And a non-black guy as the star just wouldn't work.

notsureifserious.jpg.

News flash: There are roles for which race is irrelevant to the character (Heimdall in Thor, for instance). And there are roles where it's a defining characteristic of the character. The same is true of sexual orientation or even, occasionally, gender (which is why I'm OK with Elementary's Joan Watson, and don't care whether the next Doctor is a woman).

Incidentally, Nick Fury has been black for a long time now, and rumor has it that the artist who first drew him that way actually based him on Samuel L. Jackson. As for Kingpin, the directors looked at a lot of people for that role, including several professional wrestlers, and nobody really embodied the menacing bulk the way MCD did.

/How about The Rock as Luke Cage? He's some sort of ethnicity, isn't he?

Diesel is half and half as I recall. Don't care if they get a big muscley Asian dude to play him as long as the character's personality is right and well acted and the movie is well done.

I honestly think there are very few characters where race is an issue. There are some where it's an important trait i.e Captain America has to be white due to the era he's from, Black Panther has to be well black.
The rest, meh don't really care as long as the core aspects are right.

I think you nailed it. Dwayne has the body, better acting chops than he gets credit for, and needs to be in a comic book movie at some point.

The thing about T'Challa is that he's the Marvel Universe's goddamn Batman. Yes, he's got the Wakandan version of the Super Soldier serum, but what makes The Black Panther, is that he's got the smarts, and the tactics, and the backing of a tiny nation that keeps holding the world at bay. The animated series that they did a few years ago, scratched the surface, and put the Marvel Knights version on the screen, and that was a huge amount of fun. He's not a powerhouse, but as an Avenger and even in his time in Hell's Kitchen, he's a wonderfully nuanced character. Driven, with huge resources, and yet, often alone against huge odds. The powers don't make the Panther, but the responsibility that comes with the office, and that's what I think makes him one of the better of Stan Lee and Kirby's creations.

Last comic I saw him in (somewhere in Hickman's F4), he was traveling to the underworld with Reed Richards to act as his second so he could commune with some Panther God and continue to be the King and spiritual leader of his people in troubling times to come.

If anything, they doubled down on that aspect of the Panther, not dropped it.
