If you really need to have explained who Ultron is, you probably aren't going to be going to see Avengers 2 anyway.

Dr. Whoof: If you really need to have explained who Ultron is, you probably aren't going to be going to see Avengers 2 anyway.

I had no clue what a chitauri was going into Avengers 1 and I still enjoyed the hell out of the movie. I don't know who Ultron is, yet I still want to see Avengers 2.

Who said you need to have an extensive knowledge of the Marvel universe to enjoy their movies?

Walker: Boojum2k: Walker: fanboys know who they are

Iron Man was not very well known outside of comic fans. The Marvel Cinematic Universe cachet will be enough to draw in the opening crowd, word of mouth will make it a success.

Keep believing that.

I know I'm late to the game here, but Boojum2k's statement is absolutely spot on. Walker, you're wrong.

RyansPrivates: dittybopper: Isn't she that English woman who's show spawned The Simpsons?  Yeah, Tracy Ultron.

No, your'e thinking of Allman, as in the Allman Brothers.  She is their sister.  Ultron: that is the guy who started Wal-Mart: Sam Ultron.  I guess the Avengers are going to be fighting globalization?

Has anyone, anywhere, EVER thought this farking meme was funny?

I'd rather pizza-god-damn-jedi in here making the 'stomping shiat down the drain' 'golf ball dimpler' and 'if you know what I mean' memes.

I'd rather have meowthegoddamndog in here making retarded armenian speech.

Optimal_Illusion: I'm gonna co-opt Butt-Frog.

Butt-Frog, the newest comic sensation, watch as he delivers a concerto in fist minor right in a crook's jimmies, followed by a short jazz number by colon cornet in their faces.

Jim_Callahan: mediablitz: How about I probably DID know this at one time, but we are talking 40 years ago? I was a HUGE Incredible Hulk and Daredevil fan too. Don't ask me to detail any plot lines.

Wait... Hulk had more than one plot-line prior to the 1980s?

I was like 90% sure he just had the one: "Banner rides into town, there is a conspiracy of some kind (from local criminal to national military in range, and sometimes targeting Banner, sometimes him just being in the middle of it through bad luck), some punk makes him angry, conspiracy left shattered and at least nominally solved, hulk rides off into the sunset followed by black helicopters at a discreet distance".

I mean, Hulk was basically The Man with No Name: now with extra green and grey ink!!!

No, that was the TV storyline.

The comics were General Ross plotting to destroy the Hulk, because reasons, the Army or another superhero fighting Hulk, and Hulk screaming "HULK SMASH PUNY HUMANS! WHY PUNY HUMANS NO LEAVE HULK ALONE?!" before leaping away.

I_C_Weener: sxacho: All I know about Ultron is from The Next Avengers movie. But in that, Tony Stark created him.

Given Stark's breakdowns in Ironman 3 and the ending, he's going to want to create a more independent version and let it do the heavy lifting...until it rebels.  That might work.

Not to mention that Tony has been working on AI from the beginning with Jarvis. It would add some emotional impact to the story if Ultron is the result of Jarvis becoming corrupted or becoming rampant somehow, because Jarvis has always been such an audience favorite. Tony being forced to take him down would be almost heartbreaking.

PsyLord: grokca: I don't care that much about Ultron but can we have this?
[ts2.mm.bing.net image 480x334]

Oh man, I would hit that harder than Hank Pym would...

[static.comicvine.com image 410x349]
/just not the same way, and I know you know what I mean

I never understood why Jan could get the hell beaten out of her by Ultron and look like she spent a day at the spa, but one slap from Hank and she looks like she was the guest of honor at a blanket party.

Walker: I think the bigger question is "Who the f*ck are the Guardians of the Galaxy"? If the people who greenlit that think it's gonna be a success I have a bridge to sell them. Yes, fanboys know who they are, but you need a large majority of the people to know who they are and have a burning desire to go see it. More people know who Green Lantern is and how did that film work out? Ghost Rider? Elektra? Catwoman? All more well known than the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Here's the thing -- if you make a good movie, people will go see it.  That's how sci-fi / fantasy movies work.

No one knew who the Na'vi were when Avatar came out.  No one knew what the term "inception" meant when Inception came out.  No one knew who Neo was when the Matrix came out.  No one knew what the Force was when the first Star Wars came out in 1977.

If you have good writing, good acting, good directing, and good special effects -- people will see your movie, even if it does have a talking raccoon in it.  If you have crap writing, crap acting, crap directing, and crap special effects, having the Silver Surfer in your movie isn't going to save it.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: Dr. Whoof: If you really need to have explained who Ultron is, you probably aren't going to be going to see Avengers 2 anyway.

bs. A ton of people who have no idea who Ultron is are going to see this movie. TONS.

Why? Cause it's some big scary robot that is big and scary and makes copies of itself. Oh and Tony "Snark" is going to be snarky, Thor is going to be awesome and the Hulk is going to be funny.

I was more trying to say there are two kinds of folks who will go see Avengers 2: People who liked Avengers and don't care who the bad guy is (the bulk of people), and comic fans who already know who Ultron is.  If you fall into the third set, people who didn't like Avengers and aren't comic fans, this article isn't going to make you want to see it.
